The study has been carried out with an objective to prepare Siberian roe deer habitat potential maps in South Korea based on three geographic information system-based models including frequency ratio (FR) as a bivariate statistical approach as well as convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) as machine learning algorithms. According to field observations, 741 locations were reported as roe deer's habitat preferences. The dataset were divided with a proportion of 70:30 for constructing models and validation purposes. Through FR model, a total of 10 influential factors were opted for the modelling process, namely altitude, valley depth, slope height, topographic position index (TPI), topographic wetness index (TWI), normalized difference water index, drainage density, road density, radar intensity, and morphological feature. The results of variable importance analysis determined that TPI, TWI, altitude and valley depth have higher impact on predicting. Furthermore, the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was applied to assess the prediction accuracies of three models. The results showed that all the models almost have similar performances, but LSTM model had relatively higher prediction ability in comparison to FR and CNN models with the accuracy of 76% and 73% during the training and validation process. The obtained map of LSTM model was categorized into five classes of potentiality including very low, low, moderate, high and very high with proportions of 19.70%, 19.81%, 19.31%, 19.86%, and 21.31%, respectively. The resultant potential maps may be valuable to monitor and preserve the Siberian roe deer habitats.
Temperature, humidity and wetness duration were monitored for fully developed paddy rice canopies with 3 different structures induced by the seeding method(puddled-soil drill seeding, DS ; hand broadcasting, HB ; machine broadcasting, MB). Within-canopy air temperature averaged over "clear sky" hours during the study period(maximum tillering through heading) was lower than the screen temperature at a nearby standard weather station, especially in the night. The same trend was true for "overcast sky" hours except the diurnal distinction. Vapor pressure within the canopy was high during the daytime and low in the night, making the daytime deviation from outside the canopy more significant on clear days. Under the overcast sky, the canopy maintained a steady 5 to 10% higher vapor pressure than the outside regardless of day or night. Daily maximum temperature was observed to be higher within the canopies with more leaf mass, making MB the highest, HB the lowest, and DS in between. Relative humidity was over 90% in the night and dropped to 70% in the mid-afternoon, but vapor pressure within the canopy was highest at around 13:00 LST. Dew point depression was lowest and, combined with the temperature, the relative humidity was highest in HB. Mean period of wetting duration was in the order of DS>HB>MB, while the dew point depression was greatest in DS.

This study investigates the importance of flood-influencing factors on the accuracy of flood risk mapping using the integration of remote sensing-based and machine learning techniques. Here, the Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) and Random Forest (RF) algorithms integrated with GIS-based techniques were considered to develop and generate flood risk maps. For the study area of NAPA County in the United States, rainfall data from the 12 stations, Sentinel-1 SAR, and Sentinel-2 optical images were applied to extract 13 flood-influencing factors including altitude, aspect, slope, topographic wetness index, normalized difference vegetation index, stream power index, sediment transport index, land use/land cover, terrain roughness index, distance from the river, soil, rainfall, and geology. These 13 raster maps were used as input data for the XGBoost and RF algorithms for modeling flood-prone areas using ArcGIS, Python, and R. As results, it indicates that XGBoost showed better performance than RF in modeling flood-prone areas with an ROC of 97.45%, Kappa of 93.65%, and accuracy score of 96.83% compared to RF's 82.21%, 70.54%, and 88%, respectively. In conclusion, XGBoost is more efficient than RF for flood risk mapping and can be potentially utilized for flood mitigation strategies. It should be noted that all flood influencing factors had a positive effect, but altitude, slope, and rainfall were the most influential features in modeling flood risk maps using XGBoost.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effect of warm scarf on xerostomia and sore throat in postoperative colon cancer patients. Methods: A total of 40 participants with colon cancer who underwent colon cancer operation over 2hours were included from C University hospital in Seoul. The number of experimental group and control group is each 20 calculated by G*Power, and they were assigned by using nonequivalent control group no-synchronized design. In the experimental group, a warm scarf was applied to the neck for 120 minutes from entering the recovery room after the colorectal cancer surgery was completed. In the experimental group and the control group, xerostomia and sore throat were measured twice at 60-minute intervals. The degree of xerostomia was measured through the degree of wetness of the absorbent paper in mm, and the degree of sore throat was measured through the NRS (Numeral Rating Scale). Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires from August 2018 to September 2020 and were analyzed using IBM SPSS/WIN 21.0 Descriptive statistics, x2 test, Fisher's exact test, t-test were used to determine the participant's characteristics. The effect of warm scarf on xerostomia and sore throat were separately estimated by Repeated Measures ANOVA. Results: The experimental group showed significant decrease of xerostomia and sore throat as time goes (p<.001). Conclusion: Results indicate that warm scarf on xerostomia and sore throat in postoperative colon cancer patients is helpful method for relieving side effect of tracheal intubation.
Background: Climate and livestock grazing are key agents in determining current Mongolian steppe vegetation communities. Together with plant coverage or biomass, palatability of steppe community is regarded as a useful indicator of grassland degradation, in particular, at grazing hotspots in arid and semi-arid grasslands. This study analyzed relationships between livestock grazing pressure and steppe vegetation palatability at three summer pastures with different aridity (dry, xeric, and mesic) and livestock numbers (1,100, 1,800, and 4,100 sheep units, respectively). At each site, it was surveyed coverage, biomass, and species composition of different palatability groups (i.e., palatable [P], impalatable [IP], and trampling-tolerant [TT]) along a 1-km transect from grazing hotspots (i.e., well) in every July from 2015 to 2018. Results: In results, total vegetation coverage increased with wetness, 7 times greater at mesic site than dry one in averages (33.1% vs. 4.5%); biomass was 3 times higher (47.1 g m-2 vs. 15.7 g m-2). Though P was the dominant palatability group, the importance of IP in total coverage increased with aridity from mesic (0.6%) to dry (40.2%) sites. Whereas, TT increased with livestock numbers across sites. Locally, IP was observed more frequently near the wells and its spatial range of occurrence becomes farther along the transects with aridity across sites from mesic (< 100 m) to dry (< 700 m from the well). Conclusions: Our results showed that the importance of IP and its spatial distribution are different at both local and regional scales, indicating that the palatability parameters are sensitive to discern balance between selective-grazing demand and climate-driven foraging supply in Mongolian rangelands.
The factors influencing landslide occurrence were analyzed for six points on the upper slope and the 24 points on the lower slope along a forest road around Sangsan village in Chungju, Korea, where landslides have occurred due to heavy rainfall. In terms of physico-mechanical properties of the soil layer, the lower slope seemed to loosen owing to the higher porosity, lower unit weight, and lower friction angle compared with the upper slope. With respect to topographic characteristics, the lower slope had thicker regolith, more concave profile and plan curvatures, lower slope angles, and higher topographic wetness index values than the upper slope. Therefore, all the properties (except for the slope angle) appear to make the lower slope of the forest road more vulnerable to landslides than the upper slope. Apart from the physico-mechanical and topographic characteristics, inadequate maintenance and management of drainage facilities are also considered as further major factors influencing landslide occurrence.
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different amounts of pumpkin powder on the quality characteristics of hobakpyeon using physicochemical and sensory properties, as well as on its retrogradation rate during storage. As the amount of pumpkin powder increased, the following effects on the quality characteristics were observed: moisture and amylose contents decreased while protein content increased (p<0.05), and in vitro protein digestibility (IVPD) decreased (p<0.05). Levels of slowly digestible starch and resistant starch fractions increased, while the content of rapidly digestible starch decreased. The starch digestion index and rapidly available glucose content also decreased. Among the physical properties, the L-value decreased while the b-value increased (p<0.05). Texture profile analysis revealed that all textural properties except adhesiveness decreased, and presented significant differences in hardness and chewiness (p<0.05). Sensory properties such as color, flavor, and sweetness increased while others such as wetness and chewiness decreased (p<0.05). Effects on the physicochemical properties during refrigerated storage were also compared between the control and 9% hobakpyeon (9%HP). According to the results, moisture content gradually decreased in the 9%HP compared to the control. Amylose content significantly increased in 9%HP whereas no significant changes were observed in the control. In both types of hobakpyeon, IVSD decreased significantly, showing higher values in 9%HP, whereas mechanical hardness increased, showing lower values in 9%HP. The L-value decreased significantly in the 9%HP whereas no significant changes were observed in the control. In conclusion, the above results suggest that hobakpyeon with low IVSD may be obtained by the addition of 9% pumpkin powder, and also showed that pumpkin powder delayed the rate of retrogradation in 9%HP during storage.
The volatile organic compounds(VOCs) have been recognized as a major contributor to air pollution. The catalytic oxidation is one of the most important processes for VOCs destruction due to getting high efficiency at low temperature. In this study, monometallic Pt and bimetallic Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir were supported to ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. Xylene, toluene and MEK were used as reactants. The monometallic or bimetallic catalysts were prepared by the excess wetness impregnation method and were characterized by XRD, XPS, TEM and BET analysis. As a result, Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir bimetallic catalysts showed higher conversion than Pt monometallic catalyst. Pt-Ir bimetallic catalyst showed the highest conversion on the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ support. In the VOCs oxidation, Pt-Ru, Pt-Ir bimetallic catalyst had multipoint active sites, so it improved the range of Pt metal state. Therefore, bimetallic catalysts showed higher conversion of VOCs than monometallic ones. In this study, the use of small amount of Ru, Ir to Pt promoted oxidation conversion of VOCs.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the risk of cropland and man-made infrastructures in a landslide-prone area using a GIS-based method. To achieve this goal, a landslide inventory map was prepared based on aerial photograph analysis as well as field observations. A total of 550 landslides have been counted in the entire study area. For model analysis and validation, extracted landslides were randomly selected and divided into two groups. The landslide causative factors such as slope, aspect, curvature, topographic wetness index, elevation, forest type, forest crown density, geology, land-use, soil drainage, and soil texture were used in the analysis. Moreover, to identify the correlation between landslides and causative factors, pixels were divided into several classes and frequency ratio was also extracted. A landslide susceptibility map was constructed using a bayesian predictive model (BPM) based on the entire events. In the cross validation process, the landslide susceptibility map as well as observation data were plotted with a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve then the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated and tried to extract a success rate curve. The results showed that, the BPM produced 85.8% accuracy. We believed that the model was acceptable for the landslide susceptibility analysis of the study area. In addition, for risk assessment, monetary value (local) and vulnerability scale were added for each social thematic data layers, which were then converted into US dollar considering landslide occurrence time. Moreover, the total number of the study area pixels and predictive landslide affected pixels were considered for making a probability table. Matching with the affected number, 5,000 landslide pixels were assumed to run for final calculation. Based on the result, cropland showed the estimated total risk as US $ 35.4 million and man-made infrastructure risk amounted to US $ 39.3 million.

This study evaluated a debris landform distribution potential area map in the southwest region of the Korean peninsula. A GIS spatial integration technique and logistic regression method were used to produce a distribution potential area map. Seven topographic and environmental factors were considered for analysis and 28 different data set were combined and used to get most effective results. Moreover, in an accuracy assessment, the extracted results of the Distribution Potential area were evaluated by conducting a cross-validation module. Block stream showed the highest accuracy in the combination No. 6, and that DEM (digital elevation model) and TWI (topographic wetness index) have relatively high influences on the production of the Block stream Distribution Potential area map. Talus showed the highest accuracy in the combination No. 13. We also found that slope, TWI and geology have relatively high influences on the production of the Talus Distribution Potential area map. In addition, fieldwork confirmed the accuracy of the input data that were used in this study, and the slope and geology were also similar. It was also determined that these input data were relatively accurate. In the case of angularity, the block stream was composed of sub-rounded and sub-angular systems and Talus showed differences according to the terrain formation. Although the results of the rebound strain measurement using a Schmidt's hammer did not shown any difference in topographic conditions, it is determined that the rebound strain results reflected the underlying geological setting.
