This study was carried out to make hardboard fire retardants and to examine the properties of the hard-board treated with them. The fire retardant treatment was achieved by surface impregnation of water soluble retardant chemicals into the forming mat with 55 percent of moisture content. followed by the hot pressing process. Ammonium monophosphate, ammonium diphosphate, sodium borate, and boric acid were used as the fire retardants. Fire retardant test was carried out by using the differential thermal analysis thermogram. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Fire retardant-treated hardboard showed higher values of the specific gravity. water absoption, and flexural strength than those of untreated hardboard. Especially, the treatment of ammonium monophosphate gave the best results in the flexural strength, and a 10 gr/$ft^2$ loading of the fire retardant compound of ammonium monophoshate, ammonium diphosphate, and sodium borate drew the best flexural strength value among the three different experimental loadings of 10, 20 and 30 gr/$ft^2$. 2. There were no definite differences in moisture content between the fire retardant-treated hardboard and the untreated hardboard. 3. The fire retardant compound of ammonium monophosphate, ammonium diphosphate, and sodium borate resulted in the best fire retardancy, and its fire retardancy was increased in proportion to the increase of loading.

The purpose of this study was to measure using a six-step solution for taste recognition threshold and using a Wet-Test for salivary flow amount of the adults who reside in Daegu area and are more than their 40's old to find out the relationship between DMFT index and OHIP-14. The study result revealed that the practice of oral health gave an effect to taste recognition threshold, dietary habit gave an effect to salivary flow amount, and sweet and sour taste of taste recognition threshold and salivary flow amount gave effects to the DMFT index. Therefore, it was found that the person with good practice of oral health and dietary habit had good taste, salivary flow amount and DMFT index. According to this result, it is necessary to increase the practice of oral health, increase the sensitivity to taste recognition threshold, improve dietary habit, increase salivary flow amount and decrease DMFT index in order to improve OHIP-14. Dietary habit education has been performed without the evaluation on the individual's level of taste recognition threshold. Therefore, it is necessary to develop the education program to measure and notify the taste recognition threshold in the oral health education so that individual can adjust it by himself.
Cold in-place recycling (CIR) using emulsified asphalt or foamed asphalt has become a more common practice in rehabilitating the existing asphalt pavement due to its cost effectiveness and the conservation of paving materials. As CIR continues to evolve, the engineered emulsified asphalt was developed to improve the field performances such as coating, raveling, retained stability value and curing time. The main objective of this research is to compare the laboratory responses of the engineered emulsified asphalt (CIR-EE) mixtures against the foamed asphalt (CIR-foam) mixtures using the reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP)materials collected from the CIR project on U.S. 20 Highway in Iowa. Based on the visual observation of laboratory specimens, the engineered emulsified asphalt coated the RAP materials better than the foamed asphalt because the foamed asphalt is to create a mastic mixture structure rather than coating RAP materials. Given the same compaction effort, CIR-EE specimens exhibited lesser density than CIR-foam specimens. Both Marshall stability and indirect tensile strength of CIR-EE specimens were about same as those of CIR-foam specimens. However, Marshall stability and indirect tensile strength of the vacuum-saturated wet specimens of CIR-EE mixtures were higher than those of CIR-foam mixtures. After four hours of curing in the room temperature, the CIR-EE specimens showed less raveling than the CIR-foam specimens. On the basis of test results, it can be concluded that the CIR-EE mixtures is less susceptible to moisture and more raveling resistant than CIR-foam mixtures.

Fluorine compounds are the essential chemicals for wet processes of semiconductor and LCD production line. Problems of conventional treatments for fluoride wastewater are their high operation costs and low fluoride removal capacity. In this study, cement paste containing various Ca-bearing hydrates such as portlandite, calcium silicate hydrate(CSH), and ettringite was investigated for fluoride removal. The objectives of this study are to assess the feasibility of using cement paste cured mixture of cement and water as an alternative agent for treatment of fluoride wastewater and to investigate fluoride removal capacity of the cement paste. The performance of cement paste was comparable to that of lime in the kinetic test. In column experiment where the effluent fluoride concentrations were below 0.5 mg/L. Then the leached calcium reached the maximum level of 800 mg/L. The nitrate reduced to the level of less than 10 mg/L. Nitrate in the wastewater was exchanged with interlayer sulfate of these cement hydrate LDHs. Phosphate concentration could be reduced to 10 mg/L by forming calcium phosphate. These results indicate that the cement paste generally has advantageous characteristics as an economical and viable substitute for lime to remove fluoride.
The purpose of this study was to identify the need for sex education in middle school students Research subjects were 194 students who attended at I seminary in B city. The period of data collection was from July to August, 2001. Research instrument was composed of 61 structured items 17 items related to demographics and sex, 44 items related to the need of sex education. Data were collected through the self-report method by the researcher and one trained assistant. The instrument developed by the researchers was employed to measure the need of sex education and it's Cronbach's $\alpha$ = 0.9349 in this research. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage factor analysis and t-test using SPSS WIN Program. The findings of this study are summarized as follows : 1. The highest score among characteristics of sex was 'less interest about sex(42.6%)', 39.0% of subjects got information about sex from friends or elders. 52.3% of subjects consulted friends or elders about sex problems. The number of sex education lessons was 1-2 times in school during last semester (61.0%). Education by the school nurse was 35.9% to students. 43.1% of subjects announced moderate satisfaction on sex education. 2. The mean score of the need for sex education was $2.88{\pm}0.47$ (lowest value 1, highest 4). The most wanted sex education factor was 'chastity and sexual responsibility($3.33{\pm}0.67$)' and followed by 'family and marriage ($3.26{\pm}0.62$)' and 'considerations of sex($3.07{\pm}0.69$)'. Meanwhile, the lowest wanted sex education factor is 'physiological characteristics of male ($2.47{\pm}0.72$)', followed by 'sexual behavior ($2.49{\pm}0.75$)'. The most wanted sex education item was 'the meaning of family ($3.54{\pm}0.75$)' and followed by 'the cautions to prevention from sexual abuse ($3.49{\pm}0.78$)' and sexual activity and responsibility($3.43{\pm}0.77$)'. Meanwhile, the lowest wanted sex education item is 'masturbation ($2.16{\pm}0.97$)', followed by 'circumcision($2.32{\pm}0.97$)'. 3. There is no significant difference between boys and girls in mean score about the need for sex education(t=-.715, p=.476). Sex education factor that girl-students wanted was 'physiological characteristics of female'. Sex education factor that boy-students wanted was 'family and marriage'. Sex education items that girl-students wanted were 'cautions during menstruation', the relation of ovulation and pregnancy', caution to prevention from sexual abuse' and sexual behavior and responsibility'. Sex education items that boy-students wanted were 'the meaning of family', 'the importance of marriage', 'male's sex organs', 'a wet dream', 'the method to resolve sexual curiosity', 'sexual intercourse' and 'the connection with the other sex'. In conclusion, the mean score of the need for sex education is medium. The route to attain knowledge about sex and sexual problem is through consulting friends and elders. Therefore, it is necessary to give sex education that is suitable to the subject's needs and methods. Also, it is necessary to give differently strong point about sex education between female and male students.

Objective: Our recent series of laboratory- and large-scale experiments confirmed that under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, sodium metabisulfite (SMB) was effective in preserving nutrients and antioxidant capacity of highly perishable fruit and vegetable discards (FVD). Hence, the purpose of this study was to examine how partial inclusion of SMB-treated FVD in total mixed ration (TMR) influences in vitro ruminal fermentation, whole-tract digestibility, nitrogen metabolism, blood metabolites, and voluntary feed intake of sheep. Methods: The FVD were mixed thoroughly with 6 g SMB/kg wet biomass and kept outdoors under aerobic conditions for 7 days. Four TMRs including four levels of SMB-treated FVD (as-fed basis) at 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% (equaling to 0%, 1.9%, 3.8%, and 5.7% on dry matter basis, respectively), were prepared as replacement for corn grain. The ruminal fermentation metabolites were studied using an in vitro gas production test. Four mature male Corriedale sheep were assigned at random to the 4 diets for two separate sub-experiments; i) digestibility trial with four 21-d periods, and ii) voluntary feed intake trial with four 28-d periods. Results: Inclusion of SMB-treated FVD in the TMR tended to quadratically increase partitioning factor. No effect was seen on total-tract digestibility of organic matter, ether extract, crude protein, and acid detergent fiber, except for neutral detergent fiber digestibility that tended to linearly increase with increasing SMB-treated FVD in the TMR. The progressive increase of FVD preserved with SMB in the diet had no effect on nitrogen metabolism. Treatment had no effect on serum antioxidant capacity and blood metabolites assayed. Voluntary feed intake was not impaired by inclusion of SMB-treated FVD in the TMR. Conclusion: It appears that FVD preserved with SMB can be safely incorporated into TMR as replacement of corn grain without impairment of nutrient metabolism and feed intake.
Recent reports indicate that shorter etching times than 60 seconds can be adopted without affecting the bond strength and clinical disadvantages. The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the shear bone strength and to measure depth of etch at different etching time length. One hundred and eight extracted bovine lower central incisors were embedded each in a tooth cup with cold-cure acrylic resin. The facial surfaces of the teeth were ground wet with 600-, 800-, 1000-, and 1200-grit Sic papers, and finally polished with a water slurry of extrafine silicon carbide powder, washed with tap water, and dried with hot air. Nine groups of nine prepared teeth were etched with a commercial($38\%$ phosphoric acid solution) for 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 60, 90, and 120 seconds, respectively, rinsed with tap water, and dried with hot air. One conditioned teeth from every group was selected randomly for the scanning electron microscopic examination, and the remaining eight teeth of the groups were used for measuring the push shear bond strength after bonding brackets and immensing them in the $36.5^{\circ}C$ water for 24 hours. Another nine groups of three teeth were used for measuring the depth of etch and surface roughness with a surface profilometer. after pieces of adhesive tape of 3mm inner diameter positioned on the ground enamel surfaces, and etched with the above mentioned. The data obtained form the above expeiments were analysed statistically with one way ANOVA and Dunkan's multiple range test with the $95\%$ confidence level. The results and conclusion of the study were as follows; 1. The results of shear bond strength for the given experimental etching times were not statistically different, but showed the tendency of decreasing shear bone strength after over 60 seconds etching times. 2. On the scanning election microscopic examination, it was observed that the morphological patterns of etched enamel surface for 5 to 20 seconds were similar and consitent, and those for 30 to 120 seconds showed increasing over-etched patterns depending on the length of etching times. 3. The depth of etch was increased almost proportionally by the length of etching times, but it was not associated with the shear bond strength. 4. The surface roughness increased depending on the length of etching times, but it was not associated with the shear bond strength. 5. This experiment indicated that proper etching time with $38\%$ phosphoric acid solution is in the range of 5 to 30 seconds.
This study investigated the corrosion properties of reinforced concrete with the addition of steel fibers. The transport properties of steel fiber-reinforced concrete such as permeable void, absorption by capillary action, water permeability and chloride diffusion were first measured to evaluate the relationship with the corrosion of steel rebar. Test results showed a slight increase on the compressive strength with the addition of steel fibers as well as considerable improvement of penetration resistance to mass transport of harmful materials into concrete. The addition of steel fibers in reinforced concrete accelerated the initiation of steel corrosion contrary to the expected results based on the measured transport properties. The NaCl ponding surface showed the spalling failure due to the corrosion expansion of steel fibers and the cut-surface around the steel rebar showed the localized steel fiber's corrosion. The wet-dry cycling with high chloride ions as well as high temperature seems to induce the increase of salt crystallization on the pores continually and the increased pressure with the steel fiber's corrosion on the pores caused the spalling failure on the exposed surface. The microcracking on the surface therefore accelerated the movement of water, chloride ions and oxygen into the embedded steel rebar. The mechanism affecting corrosion of embedded steel reinforcement with steel fibers in this study are not yet fully understood and require further study comprising of accurate experimental design to isolate the effect of steel fiber's potential mechanism on the corrosion process.

The purpose of this study was to examine the change of dyeing ability by K/S values, when dyed in different twisting processes and by one bath system and two bath system, to find possible ways of minimizing the color difference between cotton and polyester in composite yarn. The two types of composite yarn, which had one setting process(CP1) and two setting processes(CP2) were dyed with reactive/disperse dyes in both one bath dyeing system and two bath system. The dyeing ability according to the two different twisting processes was measured, and the values of the CP1 were higher compare to the values of CP2 in both one and two bath dyeing systems. This is because CP1 applied only one setting could shrink dyeing process at 130$^{circ}C$. This shrinkage increased the number of twists in the unit length and increased the yarn density, and this is the reason that the K/S values were measured higher than those of CP2. In wet shrinkage test, in opposition to CP2 only had 0.76$\%$ of the shrinkage rate, CP1 had 3.00$\%$ of the shrinkage rate. Also, the dyeing ability according to the two different dyeing methods was measured, and the values of CP1 and CP2 were both higher when dyed in two bath system. On the other hand, the color differences between cotton and polyester in composite yarns, were smaller for CP2 than that for CP1 and were also smaller in two bath dyeing system than in one bath dyeing system. Therefore, the ways of minimizing color difference between cotton and polyester in composite yarn are to apply enough setting in order to minimize shrinkage in dyeing process and to choose two bath dyeing system.

In this study, the applicability of the lightweight dynamic cone penetrometer in the domestic slope site was investigated using the weathered granite soil sampled form the Namwon slope site. And then, the lightweight dynamic cone penetration tests according to the change in the degree of compaction and water content were performed and it was analyzed with the correlations between the degree of compaction, the void ratio, the degree of saturation and the value of cone resistance. From the laboratory test results, the cone penetration resistance was rapidly increased in the dry side of the optimum moisture content, and it was largely decreased in the wet side of the optimum moisture content. Moreover, when the degree of compaction and the degree of saturation are large, the cone resistance is increased linearly. And a high correlativity was shown between water content, void ratio, the degree of saturation and the cone resistance. From these results, it is judged that the lightweight dynamic cone penetrometer can be applied to the investigation on the site slope.
