  • This study investigated seasonal occurrence of Frankliniella occidentalis and its damage on chrysanthemum from 1999 to 2000. F. occidentalis adults were attracted to yellow sticky traps from early April to harvesting time in the field. The highest densities were observed from late April to mid-June in spring culture and from mid-August (just after transplanting) to early September in autumn culture respectively. Seasonal fluctuation in a PVC green house was similar to that in the field. Number of insects per flower were higher in the green house than that in the field. Leaf damages due to the insects were observed from mid-May and increased as chrysanthemum grows (R$^2$ = 0.9200-0.9887$\^$**/, p> 0.01).

  • Modernization of cities and housing in Malaysia is the history of the establishment of international trading ports due to worldwide maritime trade and exchange. In cosmopolitan cities, new housing typology appeared from the influence of various ethnic immigrants and with the fusion of traditional Malaysian housing characteristics. This study is focus on classifying the representative housing typology of Malaysia produced through the Modernizaiton of cities. Through reference review and field study, Malaysian Modern housing can be classified into 2 categories. The first one is the transformation of traditional housing. Representative typology is shophouse. Shophouses were imported from the South Coast of China and transformed into Malaysian urban housing. And the other typology is bugalow. Bugalow is the result of the fusion of traditional timber house and Western palazzo. Secondly is urban housing typology. Modern urbanization required maximum utilization of land and new typologies in the form of multi-story apartments, flats and terrace house were developed to accomodate new needs. In the sub-urban areas, the English terrace houses typology was adopted which is based on the British system of land sub-division. And nowdays luxurious housing typology, condominium is one of the popular housing for medium and high society.

  • F. occidentalis (WFT, western flower thrips) is a major pest in artificial chrysanthemum houses. Nnumber of WFT attracted to yellow sticky trap was highest at trap plant and lowest at 15 and 20m places away from trap plant. Number of WFT attracted to yellow stick trap when trap plant was placed in chrysanthemum house 30 days after planting (resident WFT) was 4.4~7.7 times more than at 5 and 10 m places away from trap plant and when trap plant was placed in chrysanthemum house immediately after planting (resident WFT) was 5.7~9.4 times more at 5 and 10 m places away from trap plant. Number of WFT between the place trap plant located and unlocated was undifferent when cultured chrysanthemum formed flower. In case of the plot that trap plant and natural enemy was used simultaneously, number of WFT was highter then chemicals plot. In case of the plot that trap plant and chamicals (chemicals was sprayed on trap plant only) WFT was controlled in trap plant place only but density of WFT on 5m and 10m places away from trap plant was increased. Therefore, WFT could be controlled effectively by use of trap plant (flowering yellow chrysanthemum) and natural enemy simultaneously.

  • Allergy has a born predominant cause of atopy in body and react oversenstively several meterial. The cause of allergy are tick, house dust, egg, milk, bean, cosmetics, virus, bacteria, flesh and meat in Western medicine. While, Oriental medicine did not have an application on the allergy, but recognized that allergy is connected with fetal toxicosis, heat-syndrome in new born, syndrome characterized by dyspnea, sneezing, stuffy nose, nasal discharge and phlegm. Therefor, We knowed method of medical treatment following cause of disease and pathogenesis against allergy. Allergic disease(atopic dermatitis, bronchial asthma, rhinitis) were related with lung, spleen, kidney. To prevent allergic disease in born, Oriental medicine taked a serious view of fetal education. In Western medicine, The cause of allergy applied to exopathogen of Oriental medicine. In Oriental medicine, Treatment of allergy used generally strengthening the body resistance to eliminate pathogenic factors.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the rationale behind the transformation process of unique shophouse spatial organization in Phnom Penh. We selected 20 representative shophouses located in the Chinese district of Phnom Penh according to construction period. A qualitative study methodology was applied and field surveys were conducted that included interviews with residents, photographs, sketches, measurements, collecting historic photos, and cataloging maps. Selected cases were analyzed in terms of: basic house data, urban block analysis, and unit analysis. Cases were then classified into two types: private courtyard shophouse (PCS) and shared courtyard shophouse (SCS). PCS refers to shophouse typology that maintains most of the characteristics of early shophouses while being transformed into a modern multi-story apartment within a limited one bay plot. However, SCS refers to shophouses adapted from the indigenous forms of PCS that evolved into a multi-storey and multi-family housing typology that includes features that might have been adapted from Western apartment buildings such as sharing a big courtyard, staircase and corridors. We conclude that shophouses in Phnom Penh have positively adopted a Western building typology, adapted it to local traditions, and finally formulated a new building type that represent indicators of a modernization process gradually accepted by society.

  • The purpose of study examined of historical changes of western men's nightclothes from middle ages to the modern ages and analyzed functions and features of men's nightclothes. This study presented meaning and importance of men's nightclothes. The method of study researched the many literatures and internet sources. Until medieval age, men slept naked or in a day-shirt. In the 16th century, a nightshirt was worn in bed. A night-cap was usual, in rather more elaborate form, also worn by day in the house, and even outdoors. In the 17th century, nightshirt was elabrated with ruffles and lace. The nightshirts of 18th century, resembled the day-shirt except that it was slightly longer and fuller in cut. The turn of 19th century, men weared nightshirt with a high folding collar, one button and night-cap of jellybag shape. In the early 19th century, nightshirt had a plain turned-down collar, buttoned at the neck. A night-cap with colored tassel was usual. The middle of 19th century, a nightgown was reaching to the ankle. Pyjamas, in the 1890s, were steadily replacing the nightshirt, before long pyjamas had become generally accepted in place of the nightshirt. A pyjamas which preseverved his male dignity by giving him trousers. Man's ingenuity also modified his nigntclothes so that these took on sexual characteristic. In 20th century, the fabrics had become lighter in weight, and the choice of materials wider. By 1930s, nightclothes had become the man's most colorful garment.

  • Objectives: This case report presents the effects of traditional Korean medicine on a patient with idiopathic bilateral facial nerve palsy. Methods: Two evaluation scales, the House-Brackmann (H-B) scale and the Yanagihara scale, were used to evaluate the symptoms of bilateral facial palsy. Herbal medicine and acupuncture treatment were administered to improve the patient's symptoms in parallel with Western oral medication (Valvirus Tab 500 mg, Solondo 5 mg, Lipitor 20 mg, Almagel 15 ml, Lanston 15 mg). Results: Before treatment, the patient had severe facial paralysis with an H-B scale of 5/5 and a Yanagihara scale of 3/2 on both sides. However, after treatment, the symptoms improved significantly with an H-B scale of 2/3 and a Yanagihara scale of 31/26. Conclusions: This case report shows that traditional Korean medicine in parallel with Western oral medication can be effective in the treatment of idiopathic bilateral facial nerve palsy.

  • Electricity is transmitted by transmission lines from the source of production to the distribution system and then to the end users. Failure of a transmission line can lead to devastating economic losses and to negative social consequences resulting from the interruption of electricity. A comprehensive in-house numerical model that combines the data of computational fluid dynamic simulations of tornado wind fields with three dimensional nonlinear structural analysis modelling of the transmission lines (conductors and ground-wire) is used in the current study. Many codes of practice recommend neglecting the tornado forces acting on the conductors and ground-wires because of the complexity in predicting the conductors' response to such loads. As such, real transmission line systems are numerically simulated and then analyzed with and without the inclusion of the lines to assess the effect of tornado loads acting on conductors on the overall response of transmission towers. In addition, the behaviour of the conductors under the most critical tornado configuration is described. The sensitivity of the lines' behaviour to the magnitude of tornado loading, the level of initial sag, the insulator's length, and lines self-weight is investigated. Based on the current study results, a recommendation is made to consider conductors and ground-wires in the analysis and design of transmission towers under the effect of tornado wind loads.

  • Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate the influence of the period of disease on Bell's palsy patients Methods : We investigated 40 cases of patients with peripheral facial palsy who visited Yumin Oriental Hospital from 1st January to 31st August, 2008 with both oriental and western medical therapy and classified them as period of disease. The period of disease of Group A was within 3 days. The period of disease of Group B was from 4 to 10days. We evaluated the treatment effect of each group by House-Brackmann grade before treatment and 1, 2 week treatment. Results: 1. There was a statistical significant difference in period of disease between Group A and Group B. 2. After 1 week treatment, Group A showed more recovery compared with Group B. 3. After 2 week treatment, there was no statistical significant difference in House-Brackmann grade between Group A and Group B Conclusions : These results suggest that early treatment could be more effective in recovery of Bell's palsy.
