인천연안 낭장망 어획물 종조성의 계절변동 (Seasonal Variation in the Species Composition of Bag-net Catch from the Coastal Waters of Incheon, Korea)

  • Seasonal and annual variation in the species composition of bag-net catch in the coastal waters of Incheon, Korea were examined from April 2000 to November 2004. To analyze seasonal variation of the fisheries data, we implemented a self-organizing map(SOM), an unsupervised artificial neural network, with the catch amount of 97 species. Over 5 years, we caught 68 species of fish, 23 species of crustaceans and six species of cephalopods. The total number of fish species were gradually increased during the study period. The number of species was higher during the spring than the autumn. The SOM identified four groups of the sampling months based on seasonal changes in communities. In the spring, the dominant species were Leptochela gracilis and Pholis fangi; whereas, in the autumn, Engraulis japonicus and Portunus trituberculatus were dominant species in bag-net catch. Our results will be used to estimate seasonal and annual variation in fisheries resources of Korean coastal waters.

원격탐사를 이용한 한반도 주변해역의 해면변화 및 표층순환 (Sea level observations in the Korean seas by remote sensing)

  • 1993년에서 1997년까지의 위성고도계 자료(Topex/Poseidon)를 이용하여 한반도 주변해역의 해면 변화와 표층흐름을 조사하였다. 해면변화를 보면, 동해에 비해서 서해와 남해는 항상 상대적으로 높았다. 전 조사 기간에 걸쳐서 서해는 북부와 남부 해역에서 각각20-30cm와 18-24cm의 변화범위를 보였으며, 남해는 제주도 북서부 해역에서는 15-20cm 그리고 쓰시마섬 남서부 해역에서는 10-15cm의 변화범위를 각각 나타내었다. 서해의 경우에 황해난류의 표층 유입류와 해저 지형류의 영향을 받아 높은 변화를 보였다. 남해의 경우는 변화가 일어나는 두 곳 모두가 근원적으로는 쿠로시오 해류의 흐름에서 분기된 지류들의 흐름(제주난류와 동한난류) 때문에 해면변화를 보였다. 표층 순환은 동해에서 북한한류, 동한난류와 쓰시마 난류와 관련한 세가지 와류운동이 두드러지게 나타났다. 와류운동은 기본적으로 표층 순환에서 해류의 영향을 받았다; 원산만 앞바다의 반시계방향(0.03 cm/sec)의 흐름은 북한한류, 울릉도 남서쪽 해역의 시계방향(0.06 cm/sec)의 흐름은 동한난류, 그리고 쓰시마섬 북서쪽 해역은 쓰시마 난류와 각각 관계되어있는 것으로 보인다.

제주도 해안가 대기중 염분량의 지역적/계절적 분포 특성 (Regional and Seasonal Distribution Properties of Airborne Chlorides in Jeju Island, South Korea)

  • 본 연구에서는 제주도 해안가의 대기중 염분 분포 특성을 파악하였다. 이를 위해 제주도를 동, 서, 남, 북부지역의 4개 지역으로 구분하여 대기중 염분량을 조사하고, 지역별, 계절별 특징을 분석하였다. 아열대 기후이면서 섬으로 형성된 제주도는 대기중 염분량 분포에 있어서 지역별 편차가 크며 가장 높은 지역인 동부와 가장 낮은 지역인 남부 지역은 6배 이상 차이가 났다. 계절별 특징으로는 동부와 서부는 태풍의 영향으로 각 각 여름/가을철과 여름철이 높고, 북부는 북서풍의 영향으로 겨울철이 높으며, 남부는 여름철이 높았다. 한편 국내 동, 서, 남해안의 대기중 염분량과 비교하여 제주도는 높은 경향이 있다.

A new record of the Axiid shrimp Balssaxius habereri (Balss, 1913) (Crustacea: Decapoda: Axiidea) in Korean waters

  • Balssaxius habereri (Balss, 1903) has been newly reported in Korean waters. This species was previously known from the Pacific coast of northern Japan, Korea Strait, Yellow Sea, and Japanese coast of the East Sea. Specimens were collected from western Jeju Island using otter trawls at depths of 65-85 m. Regarding Korean axiid shrimps, a single species, Boasaxius princeps (Boas, 1880), previously known as Axiopsis princeps in Korea, has been recorded. B. habereri is easily distinguished from B. princeps as it does not have tufts of setae on its body and males do not have the first pleopod. Morphological descriptions and color photos of the specimens are provided.

  • The coastal urchin barren phenomenon in our country began to spread and expand from the 1980s, centering on the southern coast and Jeju Island, and by the 1990s, it appeared along the east coast and nationwide. The urchin barren phenomenon is mainly conducted through field surveys by diving, but recently, various surveying techniques have been applied. In this study, a spectral library for terrestrial and marine areas was established for the identification of urchin barrens using airborne hyperspectral imagery, and the distribution area was analyzed through the SAM (spectral angle mapper) algorithm. An analysis of the urchin barren phenomenon in the five islands of the West Sea revealed that it occurrs in most areas, with the combined severity of the urchin barren phenomenon in Sapsido and Oeyeondo being approximately 19.9%. Hyperspectral imagery is expected to be highly useful not only for detecting the urchin barren phenomenon but also for managing and monitoring marine fishery resources through the classification of seaweeds.

Antioxidative and Neuroprotective Constituents Isolated from Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten

  • Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten (Cactaceae) is widely cultivated in Jeju Island (South Korea) for use in the manufacture of health foods such as tea, jam and juice. Its fruit and stem have been traditionally used as oriental folk medicine to treat diabetes, hypertension, asthma, burns, edema and indigestion. During the search for naturally occurring antioxidative neuroprotective agents, it was found that the ethyl acetate fraction of the stems and fruits of Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten exhibited potent antioxidant effect. Using a chromatographic fractionation method, several constituents were isolated from this fraction. Among isolates, KYS50182 showed the most potent in vitro and in vivo neuroprotective activities, suggesting that the flavonoid can serve as a lead structure for the development of neuroprotective agents by providing neuroprotection against oxidative and focal ischemic neuronal injuries.

테이블 패턴 스케줄 기반 OTP 인증 (New OTP Authentication Approach based on Table Pattern Schedule)

  • This paper presents a new one-time password approach generated based on $4{\times}4$ pattern schedule. It demonstrates generation of passkey from initial seed of random codes and mapping out in table pattern schedule which will produce a new form of OTP scheme in protecting information or data. The OTP-2FA has been recognized by many organizations as a landmark to authentication techniques. OTP is the solution to the shortcomings of the traditional user name/password authentication. With the application of OTP, some have benefited already while others have had second thoughts because of some considerations like cryptographic issue. This paper presents a new method of algorithmic approach based on table schedule (grid authentication). The generation of OTP will be based on the random parameters that will be mapped out in rows and columns allowing the user to form the XY values to get the appropriate values. The algorithm will capture the values and extract the predefined characters that produce the OTP codes. This scheme can work in any information verification system to enhance the security, trust and confidence of the user.

동서 교류 역사 자료를 활용한 역사 수업 (Research on the utilizing the history materials of east-west exchanges in history class)

  • 본 연구는 전근대 우리 땅을 밟은 외국인들인 벨테브레와 하멜을 역사 수업에 어떻게 활용할 수 있는지에 대한 연구이다. 벨테브레와 하멜은 모두 네덜란드 사람이며, 조선에 먼저 표착한 이는 벨테브레였다. 네덜란드 동인도회사 소속의 선원이었던 벨테브레는 1627년 제주도에 상륙하였고, 이후 귀국하지 않고 '박연'이라는 이름으로 조선에 귀화하여 조선에 귀화한 최초의 서양인이 되었다. 박연은 당시 북벌정책을 실시하고 있던 조선에서 훈련도감에 근무하며 조선의 병기개발 및 개량에 커다란 역할을 다하였다. 네덜란드 동인도회사의 무역선 포수였던 하멜은 1653년 조선에 표류하여 13년 동안 여러 계층의 사람들과 접촉했고, 여러 지역으로 끌려 다니면서 당시 조선의 풍물과 풍속에 대한 사정을 자세히 관찰할 수 있었다. 교류사 학습은 세계사의 종합적인 이해에도 도움을 준다. 학생들은 서양사와 동아시아사, 한국사를 구분해서 배우기 때문에 세계 역사의 종합적인 흐름이나 시대별 서양과 동양의 모습에 대한 종합적인 이해가 힘들 수 있다. 전근대의 동서교류와 관련된 인물들에 대해 학습하는 것은 학생들로 하여금 서양과 동양의 역사를 세계 역사의 흐름 안에서 같이 연결 지어 이해할 수 있도록 해줄 것이다.

A New Species of the Family Halichondriidae (Demospongiae: Halichondrida) from Jeju-do Island, Korea

  • A new species of the genus Halichondria (Eumastia) maraensis n. sp. (Demospongiae: Halichondrida: Halichondriidae) was collected from West Marado Island, Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do Island, Korea during the period of Dec. 2006 to Feb. 2007 by a fishing net (60-80 m in depth). Halichondria (E.) maraensis n. sp. is similar to H. (E.) sitiens (Schmidt, 1870) in the type of the spicules. However they differ in spicules size and conical fistules at the surface. Oxeas of the new species are smaller and thicker than those of H. (E.) sitiens. Surface conules of the new species is not transparent, and has no oscules at the terminal short conules but H. (E.) sitiens has hollow papillae and terminal oscules.

The First Record of a Marriage Cone, Conus sponsalis (Conidae: Gastropoda) from Korea

  • The Conus Linnaeus, 1758 is a large genus of marine gastropod mollusks belonging to the family Conidae. The Conus species are mostly distributed in the tropical waters of the world, and they are especially abundant in the Indo-West Pacific region. To date, more than 600 species, most of which are predatory species, have been named worldwide in this genus and only six species have been recorded in the Korean waters. Conus sponsalis Hwass in Brugui$\grave{e}$re, 1792 was collected from Jeju Island and identified as a new Korean record. In this study, we report a description of the shell morphology of the species.
