The purposes of this study were to : a) examine the current foodservice management practices of twenty-one seniors centers in charge of hoke-delivered meal programs, b) evaluate the attitudes of one hundred and ten recipients of meal service program, and c) provide feedback for the efficient and effective foodservice management for the elderly. Statistical data analysis was completed using the SAS package program for descriptive analysis, T-test, and ANOVA. The results of quantitative analysis indicated that the costs of meals, containers and special foods were mostly dependent on the support from local government(Seoul city). The centers where the volunteers were over seventy five p ercent of the workers were frtty-eight percent and sixty-seven percent of the subjects in food preparation and food delivery to the homebound clients, respectively. Meal preparation and food purchasing were mainly practiced by social welfare worker. Standardized recipes were not developed and meal preparation was controlled under the cook' and volunteers' experiences. The survey results of recipients who participated the home-delivered meals program showed that the mean of meal satisfaction score was rated over three point five in the five-point scale. There were significant differences between dependent variables(volunteer's kindness, plate waste, menu variety) and independent variables(sex, receiving periods and family type of the subjects). The increased needs for medical cost containment and the quality of life improvement for the low-income elderly with chronic disease require the complementary relationship between hospital care and community health services. This study investigated the current status of the linkage between Korean hospital care and community services using Seoul Welfare Panel Study(SWPS) data. Logistic regression analysis was used to examine the effects of experiences of hospitalization and outpatient health services on use and needs of community health services. The analysis results indicated that the elderly with chronic disease who have not experienced outpatient health services were unlikely to receive health and social services in the community. Even those who have experienced hospitalization were not provided complementary health services in the community despite the increasing demand.
The purpose of this study is to explore the process that youths get involved in delinquent behavior after runaway. The experiences of runaway youths are studied interpretively, so that interactive features between situations and the youths are revealed. In this way, it is expected that directions in social services to prevent and intervene with delinquent behaviors of runaway youths can be suggested. Eleven youths who have experienced running-away participated in the in-depth interviews. Their narratives are interpreted through the procedures of interpretive interactionism by Denzin(1989). Five phases of the delinquency process have been discovered: Using personal resources, getting help from new relationships, exploring alternatives to survive, learning delinquent way of living, and living independently through delinquency. Interpreted contextually, it has been founded that delinquency is a behavior to survive and a developmental process on the street, taking place in a situation of blocked communication, nevertheless within people's networks. Thus, it is suggested that the problem of runaways are not to be treated narrowly as responsibilities of the youths themselves or their families, but to be approached from the viewpoint of providing social service systems that work as a safety network and offer alternatives for the youths to survive, to resolve their troubles, and to keep healthy lives.
The purpose of this study is to provide the useful reference to establish the system improvement plan that activates the counseling service quality for the disabled parents peer counselors. The qualitative case study method of Yin (2009) has been used to understand and reflect to the system for the experience of field counseling of the peer counselors for the disabled parents. 10 parents peer counselors for the disabled were proportionately sampled and interviewed about their experiences through a FGI and two individual interviews. The result of the study derived from total 87 abstract concepts and 17 categories and personal motivations for participating and changes from the experience are as follows: the effects of counseling are "mutual sympathy toward the same disability," "Identity transformation from nobody to somebody who gives hope," and "another social insurance and social safety network that parents disability make." The barrier facts for the parents peer counseling activation are: "problem of securing the position of the counseling site" and difficulty in finding the client due to lack of awareness and publicity. "The study suggests four programs to upgrade the parents peer counseling: (1) To secure the position of the counseling site, (2) To reestablish the status as a professional counselor. (3) The need of pokicy supplement and support from the government, (4) The expectancy of creating jobs through the conversion of full-time workers.
The purpose of this study was to investigate parenting experiences among grandmothers raising their grandchildren from grandmothers' perspective, and a variety of their physical health, psychological and social challenges they were facing in everyday life. In addition, this study explored new issues, changes, and difficulties grandparents and their grandchildren were going through during the COVID-19 pandemic. Seven grandmothers raising their grandchildren without their cohabiting parents participated in an in-depth interview, and the qualitative date were obtained using semi-structured questionnaires. Analyses identified 5 main categories: 1) my emotion, worries, and coping with parenting grandchildren, 2) difficulties and obstacles facing in real life of the parenting, 3) conflicts and coping with growing grandchildren who showed new characters, 4) relationships and emotions among grandparents, parents, and grandchildren, and 5) needs and desires toward social services and support. Sixteen themes and 60 sub-themes were also derived. The majority of grandmothers expressed diverse difficulties in their dail y lives including ambivalent emotions regarding grandchild-rearing(rewards and burden), economic hardships, physical health limitations, and a lack of communications with their grandchildren. Further, findings indicated profound generation conflicts which had been even deepened during school close period in COVID-19 pandemic and had been associated with increased hours of using internet and playing computer games. The top priority of the social service needs among interviewed grandmothers was learning support for their grandchildren. Emotional support and social support to cover their lack of family interactions, and financial support were the next of their desired social services. Implications to improve social services for grandparent-headed families are discussed.
The purpose of this study was to identify the meaning of performance experienced in the process of practicing at the elderly suicide prevention center. Therefore, the actual results perceived from the subjective viewpoints of the chiefs, staff and service users from the public institutions, which offer the elderly suicide prevention services were examined. The results classified the service provider's view, service users view and multi-dimensional view. The research method is a case study of qualitative research method. The results of the study found that the analysis commonly perceived from the perspectives of both the chiefs and staff from the public institutions offering elderly suicide prevention service were 'the perception of structural obstacles during the process of practicing the services and focused on the achievement of experiencing changes in the service users and the community'. On the other hand, the analysis from the perspective of the service users turned out to be 'focusing on changes in the users'internal perception according to service experiences'. The meaning and essence of the analytical results perceived from each perspective are summarized as follows. First, the analytical results perceived of the chiefs of public institutions offering elderly suicide prevention service were 'the process in which the identification of the institution is rediscovered through the service'. Second, the analytical results perceived by the staff from the institution were 'being acknowledged in the community and organization while experiencing changes in the service users in the process of struggling to survive in such community and organization'. Third, the analytical results perceived by the service users were 'holding on to the lifeline at the edge of a precipice'. Based on the results, political and practical implications of elderly suicide prevention service were discussed.
This study aims to identify constructs of cultural competency specifically relevant to the Korean society and to test its reliability and validity among human service workers. For the purpose of the study, authors conducted focus group interviews and conferences with human service workers to draw the concept of cultural competency. Further, this study conducted to two separate pilot tests with 20 social workers with practice experiences in order to clarify descriptions and relevance of scale items. Based on the literature review on the concept of cultural competency and analysis of focus group interviews, 40 items were initially constructed and then were reduced to a 32-item scale after two separate pilot studies. Meantime, suggestions made by an advisory group were also reflected in the scale development process. Finally, one hundred ninety four workers in social service agencies were recruited to evaluate the relevance of the scale items in a 5 point Likert scale. Through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, 4 main factors were identified: 1) competency to use culturally relevant skills, 2) cultural awareness and sensitivity, 3) cultural knowledge, and 4) efforts to overcome cultural differences. These factors were consistent with sub-concepts of cultural competency in other studies. Confirmatory factor analysis also showed that the model fitness was at the high level and convergent analysis with the similar scale also showed high correlations. Internal consistency also remained at a high level. Based on the results, implication for social work practice and education were discussed.

The purpose of this study is to explore the family diversity-related service experiences of Family Center practitioners under the main policy goal of recognizing family diversity set out in the Fourth Master Plan for Healthy Families. To this end, a focus group interview was conducted with 12 Family Center practitioners in multiple cities and districts who had extensive family service experiences. The focus group interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The analysis found that Family Center practitioners understood the concept of family diversity according to the changes in the family policy environment and applied it in various forms to the administration of their respective centers. However, while administering the family support services considering the aspect of family diversity, they experienced a lack of resources for various family service programs, conflicts between each family service goal and the family diversity-related program goal, and difficulties in identifying the recipients. To expand family diversity-related services in the future, the interviewees emphasized the need for education programs about family diversity targeted at Family Center practitioners, and family support services that reflect regional characteristics. They also stressed the need for changes in program operation methods, such as expanding family diversity education, and developing family service programs appropriate for diverse families. Lastly, they highlighted the need for mounting a publicity campaign for Family Centers, widening the target recipients of family programs, and expanding the budget for the administration of the family diversity project. The results of this study can serve as a basis for restructuring family services for the application and expansion of family diversity practices, and as educational material that can be used to strengthen the capacity of family service practitioners to plan and execute family support programs that take family diversity into consideration.

Purpose: To provide an in-depth analysis of the physical changes in and marital experiences of immigrant women in Korea, considering the differences in their cultural backgrounds. Methods: A qualitative research methodology with a phenomenology perspective was used. Data were collected through interviews from four focus groups and through in-depth interviews from five individuals. Data analysis was carried out using Colaizzi's phenomenological analysis method. Results: Twenty-four participants from nine different nations were interviewed. Three phenomenological theme clusters were identified and six sub-themes were derived. These comprise: "emergence of physical changes", "experienced symptom with negative result", and "coping with my body". The derived themes comprise: "struggling for my body to survive", "changed body after pregnancy and delivery", "diagnosed as normal but", "neglected my health", "using familiar care", and "unfamiliar health service system". Conclusion: Immigrant women by marriage in Korea are new subjects of nursing care. Their physical changes and experiences in coping with marriage at an early stage of immigration as described by themselves provide valuable information for nursing professionals. Cultural differences, problems specific to women, and our social conditions regarding minorities and our patriarchal tradition that discriminates against women affect their health problems. We strongly recommend that nurses should actively determine and engage in the health problems of immigrant women.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore and analyze experiences with home-visiting oral health education in vulnerable populations and to provide foundational data necessary for the development of preventive strategies for oral health promotion among these patients. Methods: Using a phenomenological research, in-depth interviews were conducted between August 29 and October 31, 2023 with 20 vulnerable individuals participating in the Home Visit Oral Health Education Program under the Gwangju+ Gwangsan Integrated Care Service project spearheaded by the Gwangju Medical Welfare Cooperative. Results: After analyzing the contents of the participants' experiences, 130 meaningful words and 14 subcategories were identified and categorized into five major themes. Participants expressed discomfort when chewing or swallowing food and felt burdened by visits to the dentist. Although they experienced considerable loneliness because they spent a significant amount of time alone, they enjoyed communicating through visitation care and expressed gratitude for receiving oral health education. Conclusions: Oral health education through home visits cam increase awareness of oral health management among vulnerable populations and serve as an important means of improving their quality of life.
