  • Bridge constructed recently is preferred to have a long span and a simple structure detail considering not only functions as bridge but scenic beauty, maintenance, construction term and life cycle cost, etc. Therefore, it demands a high quality steel like a thick plate steel and a high performance steel. A TMCP steel produced by theme-mechanical control process is now spotlighted due to the weldability for less carbon equivalent. It improved at strength and toughness in microstructure. Resently the SM570-TMC steel, a high strength TMCP steel whose tensile strength is 600MPa, is developed and applied to steel structures. But, for the application of this steel to steel structures, it is necessary to elucidate not only the material characteristics but also the mechanical characteristic of welded joint. In this paper, we investigated the characteristics of residual stresses generated by welding of SM570-TMC steels through an experimental study

  • In SRC column, the closed hoops are applied with the same detail of both 135° standard hooks to expect the same performance as hoops of RC columns. This standard detail is actually complicated to construct, thus, two separating rebars are connected in the form of a square shape and welded over the overlapping section. But this is also complicated in construction practice. Therefore, this study describes experimental results regarding cyclic behaviors shown with alternative hoops cramped by the steel clip type-binding device instead of welding and standard specimen. As a result of the experiment, the specimens with alternative hoops of the SRC column showed comparable performance to the specimens with closed hoops. Therefore, it can be evaluated that the alternative hoops applied with the rebar confinement clips in the SRC column can replace the closed hoop.

  • In arc-welding applying to the present automobile part manufacturing process, a wrist-hollow type arc welding robot can shorten the welding cycle time, because feedability of a welding wire is not affected by a robot posture and thus facilitates high-quality arc welding, based on stable feeding with no entanglement. In this paper, we will propose the optimization of wrist design for a wrist-hollow type 6-Axis articulated robot. Specifically, we will perform the investigation on the optimized design of inner diameter of hollow arms (Axis 4 and Axis 6) and width of the upper arm by using the simulation of robot motion characteristics, using a Genetic Algorithm (i.e., GA). Our simulations are based on $SolidWorks^{(R)}$ for robot modeling, $MATLAB^{(R)}$ for GA optimization, and $RecurDyn^{(R)}$ for analyzing dynamic characteristics of a robot. Especially $RecurDyn^{(R)}$ is incorporated in the GA module of $MATLAB^{(R)}$ for the optimization process. The results of the simulations will be verified by using $RecurDyn^{(R)}$ to show that the driving torque of each axis of the writs-hollow 6-axis robot with the optimized wrist design should be smaller than the rated output torque of each joint servomotor. Our paper will be a guide for improving the wrist-hollow design by optimizing the wrist shape at a detail design stage when the driving torque of each joint for the wrist-hollow 6-axis robot (to being developed) is not matched with the servomotor specifications.

  • A direct pulsed laser process for welding and networking silver nanowires was developed. The welded nanowire network demonstrated modified electrical properties in a transparent substance. In particular, the welding points on the nanowires were investigated to measure the resistance at the connections. The level of networking in nanowires was explored with respect to various laser pulse widths and average power densities. In particular, the influence of laser beam density was investigated in detail. Selective laser treatment can be advantageous in imparting customized local property changes in transparent conducting materials. Various applications of the process are also discussed in this paper.

  • In this Paper, the mechanical behavior of two reかangular plates spot-welded under free vibration is investigated in detail. The focus of the analysis is to evaluate the effect of thickness of reinforced plates with equivalent thickness. The results of this the investigation are compared with detailed finite element analysis end experiments of the plates spot-welded for various parameters, such as aspect ratio, arm ratio, and distance ratio of spot-welding Points. The conclusion obtained are as followed. 1. The effect thickness due to spot-weld is very large, such as 55% in comparison with area ratio of spot-welding joint is just 4.52%. 2 The effect of thickness with respect to the distance ratio is maximized when the distance ratio is 0.4.

  • In this study, straight slot welding was carried out using a 316L stainless steel test block, and numerical simulation of the slot weld process was performed using finite element analysis. Data on the residual stress were obtained at equally spaced points on the top surface of the test block along directions parallel and perpendicular to the welding direction. After electrolytic polishing of the top surface of the block, the residual stress was measured by the X-ray diffraction method. The calculated weld residual stresses were compared with the measured data, and they were in good agreement with the data. The weld residual stress distribution inside the plate was determined from the results of finite element analysis, and the characteristics of the distribution were discussed in detail in this paper.

  • In this study, in order to compare the seismic performance of steel structure beam-column connection details and non-scallop connection details mainly used in Korea, a full-scale static cyclic loading test and FEM analysis were conducted through the same modeling as the experiment. For quantitative numerical comparison, the strain concentration ratio and moment transfer efficiency used in previous studies were cited. As the welding area of the beam web decreased, the deformation rate of the beam flange increased, and the plastic deformation capacity according to the rotation angle decreased or brittle fracture occurred. Comparing the analysis results with the experimental results, the possibility of brittle fracture tended to increase when the web welding ratio for the total cross-sectional area of H-shaped fell below 60%.

  • This study presents an experimental study of the structural behavior for steel plate-concrete column-to-steel girder connections. Experiments were carried out to investigate the moment-rotation characteristics, failure behavior and ultimate moment capacity of these connections. The results of this experimental study involving three welded moment-resisting connections subjected to cyclic loading are presented. The specimens were fabricated at full scale to evaluate their hysteretic behavior. A description of the test specimens, the details of the joint, the test system and the testing methods are described. The test results showed that the structural behavior of these composite connections was influenced by the connection details.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new method for assembly of shipbuilding blocks at sea and present its feasibility focusing on structural safety. The core concept of this method is to assemble ship building blocks by use of bolting, gluing and welding techniques at sea without dock facilities. Due to its independence of dock facilities, shipyard construction capability could be increased considerably by the proposed method. To show the structural safety of this method, a bulk carrier and an oil tanker were employed, and we investigated the structural behavior of those ships to which the new block assembly method was applied. The ship hull models attached with connective parts are analyzed in detail through finite element analyses, and the cargo capacity of the bulk carrier is briefly discussed as well. The results of these studies show the potential for applying this new block assembly method to practical shipbuilding.

  • In this paper, unsettled technical controversies concerning about fatigue strength analysis for FPSO, one of the representative floaters, associated with welding types, screening methods, fabrication tolerances, corrosion margins and Morison loads are described based on yard practices. Basic theory for stochastic fatigue analysis is introduced as detail as possible. In order to resolve large parts of the controversies, a new fully stochastic fatigue analysis program for FPSO is developed.
