  • Digital manufacturing could be very effective in shipbuilding in order to estimate the process time, to improve the operation efficiency, and to prevent bottleneck processes in advance. The subassembly process having done research consists of piece arrangement, tack welding, robot welding, manual welding and so on. The robot welding of them was the focus of the simulation. The analysis and modeling were carried out by using UML (Unified Modeling Language) as well as $IDEF\phi$ (Integration DEFinition). The characteristics of the process resources were analyzed using the shipyard data, and the layout of the subassembly line was designed with the resources. Using the constructed resource and process model, the productivity and efficiency of changed robot welding stage were investigated. It was simulated how much the variations in the resource performance have influence on improvement of productivity. One of the important outputs in this simulation was the cycle time during a certain period's work. The cycle time prediction was also undertaken for the different torch and the different piece arrangement. The proposed model was established three-dimensionally in a digital environment so that interferences among objects and space allocations for the resources could be easily investigated.

  • High temperature low cycle fatigue crack growth behavior is investigated over a range of two temperatures and various frequencies in SUS 304 stainless steel. It is found that low frequency and temperature can enhance time-dependent crack growth. With high temperature, low frequency and long crack length, ${\Delta}J_c/{\Delta}J_ f$, the ratio of creep J integral range to fatigue J integral range is increased and time-dependent crack growth is accelerated. Interaction between ${\Delta}J_f$ and ${\Delta}J_c$ is occured at high frequency and low temparature and ${\Delta}J_c$, creep J integral range is fracture mechanical parameter on transition from cycle-dependent to time dependent crack growth in creep temperature region.

  • High Strength low alloy steels containing various levels of C, Nb and Mn were used and for each of which, a simulated double thermal cycle was applied with the same first peak temperature and different second peak temperatures to produce HAZ microstructure corresponding to multi-pass weld. Effect of double cycle second temperature on the microstructure was observed and compared with single cycle results obtained from previous works, it was found that the percentage of martensite austenite constituent (MA) increases by Nb addition for all steels with the same Mn content and the increase in Mn content at the same Nb content shows an increase in MA area fraction as well. MA area fraction obtained for the double cycle is larger than that obtained for the single cycle for all steels used which imply that MA will have great role in the brittle fracture initiation for double cycle and the inter-pass temperature should be controlled for medium and high-carbon Mn steel to avoid large area fraction of MA. The beneficial effects of Niobium obtained in single pass weld were not observed for the double cycle or multi pass welds.

  • Resistance spot welding using air gun has been used for joining the sheet metal in automotive manufacturing process. Although air gun has many advantages, it also has the limitation to control the pressure as a factor to improve weld quality. In this study, we apply servo gun using servo motor to resistance spot welding and find the relationship between welding pressure and welding quality. Trough the experiment to change welding pressure during the welding cycle, we can make it clear that the change of welding pressure is greatly influence on the welding quality. To get in a. using response surface methodology, drew out the optimal welding pressure profile for welding quality progresses. We made an optimal profile of welding pressure which improves welding quality using response surface methodology.

  • In comparison to general purpose step-up/down transformer, welding transformer for resistance spot welding requires strict design criteria. The major significant specifications include duty cycle, arm length and its geometric configuration(window area) as well as various current/voltage conditions and material properties. This interactive program propose new promising procedure for weldling transformer. Users can input design variables and modify in accordance with graphic Output.

  • Construction of welding structure is greatly dependent upon welding heat cycle. Fracture toughness is decreased remarkablely due to coarse grained HAZ and inequal residual stress of three dimensions to originate in welding. Post weld heat treatment(PWHT) is carried out to increase the fracture toughness of HAZ and to remove the residual stress. There occur some problem such as toughness decrement and stress relief cracking(SRC) in the coarse grained HAZ subject to the effect of tempering treatment. Therefore, in this paper, the effect of heat inputs affecting cooling rate and PWHT under the no stress on fracture toughness were evaluated by crack opening displacement (COD), SEM and micro-hardness test. Experimental results are as follows; 1. Fracture toughness of weld HAZ is dependent upon weld heat cycle and it is decreased with increment of heat input, but the degree of improvement of fracture toughness after PWHT was linearly increased with heat input. 2. Hardness of the parent metal is not changed, but the softening of coarse grained HAZ is remarkable due to PWHT. 3. Fracture surface of as-weld show the perfect brittle fracture with the cleavage fracture, but after PWHT they appear the ductile fracture surface with dimple.

  • The influence of weld defect, residual stress and microstructure on the Low Cycle Fatigue(L. C. F.) behaviour of AISI 304L austenitic stainless steel weldment has been studied. The specimens were welded by shielded metal are welding process, post weld heat treated(PWHT) at 900.deg.C for 1.5hrs, and tested under total strain controlled condition at room temperature. The results of the experiment showed that weld defect affected the L.C.F. behaviour of weldment deleteriously compared to the residual stress or microstructure, and it reduced the L.C.F. life about 70-80%. The PWHT exhibited beneficial effect on the L.C.F. behaviour and increased the L.C.F. life about 120%. This enhancement by PWHT was attributed to the removal of residual stress and recovery of weld metal ductility. The cyclic stress flow of as welded specimens showed intermediate cyclic softening, whereas those of heat treated specimens showed continuous cyclic hardening, and this difference was explained in terms of the residual stress removal and dislocation behaviour. Scanning electron microscopy studies of fatigue fracture surface showed that weld defects of large size and near weld surface were detrimental to the L.C.F. behaviour of weldment.

  • For construction of steel structures, thin steel plates have been often used and welding is the main manufacturing process. However, welding processes cause some problems(welding residual stresses, welding deformations, etc.). In these problems, welding deformation is extremely harmful to the safety of structures especially. Therefore, in this study, a numerical analysis program based on large deformation plate theory has been developed to analyze and predict the welding deformation in thin plates. From the result of numerical analyse, we can find two parameters, thermal cycles and mechanical restraints affecting the welding deformation of structures. It is considered that large difference of thermal cycles and mechanical restraints in the width direction bring about welding deformation. Results of simulation have the same tendency of deformation distribution in width direction as experimental formulas.
