The steel impeller placed in a water pump has been studied with the aim to understand corrosion phenomena on the surface responsible for reducing the pumping efficiency of water inside cooling system. This preliminary experiment includes a period (around 1 month) observation with a powered microscope and weight measurements. The experiments are carried out at different conditions of water and mixtures of water and coolants, based on the water contents of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% water (pure tap water). From the visual results of microscopy, most of the steel surface is fitted and clear rusty or corrosion phenomena are noticeable as time goes. In addition, the weight loss of the sample specimen submerged in the water is linearly increased, whereas those in the mixtures of water initially gain weight and become almost constant.
This study is to find out effects of hot water soluble extract from green tea, one of the Korean favorites, on the calcium metabolism and bone strength in body. To do so, calcium, phosphate, creatinine concentration and ALP activity in blood and the content of calcium and ash in the organ, the length, weight, strength in bone were measured. In addition, to find the calcium metabolism, the level of calcium intake, excretion, retention were measured. Twenty male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two groups and isoloated soy protein was provided as the source of protein and CaCO₃ was provided as the source of calcium. 0.5% hot water soluble extract from green tea was provided to the green tea groups and for the control group deionized water was provided. The results are as follows ; 1. There is no difference between the experimental groups in diet intake, weight gain, and the feed intake. 2. Feed efficiency ratio was low in the group which hot water soluble extract from green tea was provided. 3. There is no difference between groups the level of calcium, phosphorus, creatinine and ALP activity in serum. 4. There is no difference between groups weight, contents of ash and calcium in kidney and liver. 5. There is no difference between groups in calcium intake, absorption, excretion, and retention. 6. There is no difference between groups weight, length and strength in bone. In summary, when hot water soluble extract from green tea was provided with the amount of 150-200mg, which is taken when people generally drink as favorite tea, weight gain was reduced due to the decrease of feed efficiency ratio. However, it did not affect the availability of calcium in body at all. Thus, even if a big quantity of green tea powder or solid of hot green tea extract is not provided, the quantity obtained when people drink green tea lowers the feed efficiency ratio without reducing availability of calcium in body.

This study tested 25 lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) mixtures using the expanded bottom ash and dredged soil granules to examine the compressive strength gain of such concrete with different ages. The test parameters investigated were water-to-cement ratios and the natural sand content for the replacement of lightweight fine aggregate. The compressive strength gain rate in the basic equation specified in fib model code was experimentally determined in each mixture and then empirically formulated as a function of the water-to-cement ratio and oven-dried density of concrete. When compared with 28-day compressive strength, the tested LWAC mixtures exhibited relatively low gain ratios (0.49~0.82) at an age of 3 days whereas the gain ratios (1.16~1.41) at 91 days were higher than that (1.05~1.15) of the conventional normal-weight concrete. Thus, the fib model equations tend to overestimate the early strength gain of LWAC but underestimate the long-term strength gain. The proposed equations are in good agreement with the measured compressive strength development of LWAC at different ages, indicating that the mean and standard deviation of the normalized root mean square errors determined in each mixture are 0.101 and 0.053, respectively.
The effect of feeding extracts from rhus trees on performance of broiler were performed to investigate development of natural antibiotic in process of broilers production. A total of 320 broiler chicks at 7 day of age were fed the commercial diet and water, water containing 0 ppm (control), 300 ppm (T1), 600 ppm (T2) and 1000 ppm (T3) of extracts from rims trees for 7 weeks. The body weight gain and feed conversion ratio were improvement by feeding extracts from rims trees at 7 to 21 days of age (P<0.05), but amount of feed intake and mortality were not different among the four group. When 21 to 35 days of age, body weight gain, amount of feed intake, feed conversion ratio and mortality were almost same results when 7 to 21days of age, but it was not significantly different. When 35 to 49 days of age, body weight gain in T1 and T3 group was significantly improvement than control group (P<0.05), also feed conversion ratio was improve by feeding extracts from rhus trees. There was a decrease in the microflora population of both E coli. and salmonella in the cecum contents and feaces in broilers by feeding extracts from rhus trees. Emission of ammonia and VFA gas from excreta were significantly decreased at 5 to 10 days of storaged period (P<0.05). The digestibility of dry matter, crude fat, and crude ash of feed were tend to increased in broiler feeding extracts from rims trees. Digestibility of crude protein of feed in broiler three treatmental groups was significantly improved (P<0.05) as compared with those in control group. These results indicated that the feeding extracts from rhus trees of 300 to 1000 ppm of broiler production were improvement in th6 body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, and mortality due to increasing nutrients digestibility from feed, decreasing of microflora population of both E coll. and salmonella in the cecum contents and feaces, decreasing emission of ammonia and VFA gas from excreta.
The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of hot water soluble extract from Angelicae Radix on the components of serum and liver and the effects on the antioxidant system. For this purpose, five experimental groups were set up. And for fat source, perila oil enough with unsaturated fatty acid and beef tallow enough with saturated fatty acid were supplemented to the rats together with hot water soluble extract from Angelicae Radixs. Five experimental groups kept eight Sprague-Dawley rats respectively. They were CO group supplemented with basic diet of AIN-93, PO group supplemented with perila oil, POA group supplemented with perila oil and hot water soluble extract from Angelicae Radix, BT group supplemented with beef tallow, and BTA group supplemented with beef tallow and hot water soluble extract from Angelicae Radix. The results were; 1) Final weight, weight gain, fluid intake and FER were not different significantly among the experimental groups, 2) Significant difference of food intake was observed(p<0.05) in BTA group only, 3) No significant difference was observed in serum total lipid, serum triglyceride and HDL cholesterol among experimental groups. Serum total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol were significantly low(p<0.05) in the group supplemented with beef tallow which was with hot water soluble extract from Angelicae Radix (BTA group). 4)Liver total cholesterol in liver was low in groups supplemented with perila oil and hot water soluble extract from Angelicae Radix. In summary, hot water soluble extract from Angelicae Radix did not affect the weight gain, fluid intake and food efficiency ratio among the experimental groups, but had an effect of lowering food intake, serum total cholesterol and serum LDL cholesterol significantly in the groups which were supplemented with beef tallow and hot water soluble extract from Angelicae Radix. The effect of lowering liver total cholesterol with the supplementation of hot water soluble extract from AnRelicae Radix was observed in perila oil group only. The effect of lowering cholesterol with the supplementation of hot water soluble extract from Angelicae Radix was observed both in serum and in liver.
To confirm the effect of food and water deprivation prior to Newcastle disease(ND) virus vaccination, three hundred chicks were divided into five groups with three replications. ND vaccine were sprayed to at 1 -day old chicks at commercial hatchery. Secondary and third vaccination was conducted at 2-week old and 24-day old chicks by LaSota strain. Control was conventionally vaccinated without withdrawing the food and water before or after vaccination. In group 2(G2) and 3(G3), LaSota strain was vaccinated to chicks before and after fasting the food and water for 3 and 2 hours, respectively. Group 4(G4) has the same fasting time of group 2, but supplemented the skim milk in vaccin dilution water. In group 5(G5), skim milk was added into group 3. Weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion were weekly measured for 5 weeks. Blood was collected from wing vein at 24 and 35 days of age. Each serum antibody level were measured by hemagglutination inhibition(HI) test. The average weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion of all group were not significantly different. Weight gain of each groups was 1910.30(control), 1875.28(G2), 1952.12(G4) and 1896.05(G5), respectively. Feed intake of all group was recorded at 3160.67(control), 3167.07(G2), 3189.48(G3), 3157.85(G4) and 3178.16(G5), respectively. The feed conversion of each groups was 1.655(control), 1.688(G2), 1.633(G3), 1.699(G4) and 1.676(G5), respectively. The HI titer of G4 was $ 5.50{\Pm}$1.40 and significantly higher than the other groups (p<0.05)(control : $4.36{\Pm}$1.87 , G2 : $5.18{\Pm}$2.14, G3 : $4.51{\Pm}$2.19, G : $5.28{\Pm}$1.58 at 35 days old. The results of this experiment indicated that two or three hours of fasting time before or after vaccination would be able to show the higher antibody level against ND virus.
The performance of growing rabbits fed Ruzi grass (Brachiaria ruziziensis), head lettuce (Lactuca sativa) residue, Mimosa pigra and water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) was studied in an experiment using 64 rabbits (4 males and 4 females per treatment) of 2 breeds, New Zealand White and a crossbred between New Zealand White and native breed. The rabbits had an average initial weight of 668 g, were about 6 weeks old and were housed in individual pens. The foliages were fed ad libitum and a commercial concentrate was fed at a restricted level of 2% of body weight on a dry matter (DM) basis. In the digestibility experiment, the rabbits, 4 per foliage and males only, were fed the same foliages as in the growth experiment but without concentrate. Daily weight gain was lower in the group fed Ruzi grass, 14.8 g/d (p<0.001) compared to 17.6, 18.5 and 18.4 g/d for head lettuce, Mimosa pigra and water spinach, respectively. Feed intake and feed conversion ratio were lowest for the rabbits fed water spinach, 66 g DM/d and 3.6 kg DM/kg live weight, respectively. The New Zealand White breed had a higher daily gain than the crossbred rabbits (p<0.05), 18.0 and 16.7 g/d, respectively. There were no significant differences in feed intake, growth or feed conversion ratio due to sex. The digestibility coefficients of DM, organic matter, crude protein, crude fiber, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber were significantly lower (p<0.001) in the rabbits fed Ruzi grass. Breed and sex had no effect on digestibility. In conclusion, feeding head lettuce residue, Mimosa pigra and water spinach resulted in higher growth rate and digestibility than feeding Ruzi grass and can be recommended as alternative feeds.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between the herbal medicines used for women in puerperium on postpartum care, Kami-Saenghwatang(SHT) and Kami-Bohertang(BHT) and postpartum body composition change. We also examined the influence of gestational age, the number of parity and the route of delivery for gestational weight gain and postpartum weight loss. Methods: 239 women followed by postpartum care center. Variety factor s were conformed and then checked body composition analysis. 8 weeks later, we followed up body composition of 36 women among the former checked. and additionally asked the body weight of another 42 former checked women by telephone call. Results: $Mean{\pm}S.D$(standard deviation) of pre-pregnancy weight is $55.22{\pm}8.98kg$, $Mean{\pm}S.D$ of gestational maximun weight is $69.26{\pm}9.77kg$, $Mean{\pm}S.D$ of weight loss in postpartum 8 weeks(means sub-tract postpartum 1 week weight from postpartum 8 week weight) is $57.86{\pm}8.60kg$. The number of parities had corrrelation with gestational weight gain. Age, number of parities and route of delive were not significantly correlated with postpartum weight loss during 8 weeks after delivery, and also it was not correlated with body water mass, body fat mass, body mass index and body weight on postpartum 8 weeks whether they treated with SHT and BHT. conclusion: It was not correlated with body water mass, body fat mass, body mass index and body weight on 8 weeks postpartum whether they treated with SHT and BHT.
Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of intermittent feeding and cold water on performance and carcass traits in broiler chickens between 4 to 6 wk of age exposed to daily high temperature. Methods: Broilers were assigned to four treatment groups according to a 2×2 factorial design between 22 to 42 d of age (80 broilers per treatment, 4 replications). Broilers were divided into two main groups as feeding type (ad-libitum [AL] and intermittent [IF] for 6 h daily) and sub-groups as water temperature (normal [NW], 24.9℃ and cold [CW], 16.4℃). Heat treatment was applied between 11.00 to 17.00 h daily between 22 to 42 d of age. Results: Live weight at 6th wk was not affected by feeding type and water temperature, but the live weight was significantly higher in IF chickens at the 5th wk (p<0.05). Average weekly gain of IF broiler chickens were higher compared to AL group at 4, 5, and 6 wk of age (p< 0.05). Although feeding type did not affect feed intake in 4 and 5th wk, feed intake was higher in IF chickens at 6th wk (p<0.01). In addition, feeding type and water temperature did not affect feed conversion ratio and interactions were not significant (p>0.05). Water temperature had no significant effect on heart, liver, gizzard, and abdominal fat percentages (p>0.05). Conclusion: It is concluded that IF increased the average weekly gain in chickens reared under daily heat stress for 6 h between 22 to 42 d of age. IF in hot environmental conditions slightly increased performance without adversely affecting health, welfare, and physiological traits, whereas CW implementation had no significant effect on performance. It can also be said that IF suppresses a sudden increase in body temperature depending on age and live weight.
