  • Weight bearing training on the involved leg is impotant for ambulation and activities of daily living in ambulatory hemiplegic patients. Traditionally, physical therapists have relied on exercise therapy and subjective evaluation. The goal for this study was to measure lower extremity weight distribution in standing with ten hemiplegic pations(M:8, F:2) and to determine the traing effect on symmetrical standing posture using a "Limloader". The Limloader is a machine designed for training symmetrical weight bearing posture. The results showed that the ability to keep the center of gravity within the limits for balance was improved significantly but the ability to adjust weight bearing on the involved leg was not (p<0.05). This study demostrated that hemiplegics can improved their symmetrical weight bearing ability using sensory biofeedback.

  • Yew (Taxus cuspidata Sieb.) chose that grow as medicine, food, decorative plant in Korea's Kyong-Gi province surroundings. Extracts of yew extracted leaf of 250 g and stems of 300 g with 1,3-butylene glycol (1,3-BG), propylene glycol (PG) and water. As results, external appearance of leaf extract of yew was slightly brown clear extract. The pH was 5.3$\pm$0.5, and specific gravity was 1.012$\pm$0.05, and refractive index was 1.375$\pm$0.05. • The objective of this research was to investigate the possibility of using rice husk flour as a partial substitute for the wood particles used as the raw material for manufacturing particleboards, by examining the physical and mechanical properties of the rice husk flour-wood particleboard as a function of the type of urea-formaldehyde resin used. Commercial wood particles and two types of rice husk flours (A type (30 ㎛), B type (300 ㎛)) were used. E1 and E2 class urea-formaldehyde resin was used as the composite binder, combined with 10 wt.% NH4Cl solution as a hardener. Rice husk flour-wood particleboards with dimensions of 27×27×0.7 (cm) were manufactured at a specific gravity of 0.7 with rice husk flour contents of 0, 5, 10, and 15 (wt.%). We examined the physical properties (specific gravity and moisture content), mechanical properties (three point bending strength and internal bonding) of the composite. In general, it can be concluded that composites made from rice husk flours are of somewhat poorer quality than those made from wood; however, blending in small amounts of rice husk flour (e.g., 5% to 10% by weight) may have no significant impact on quality.

  • Recently, as the marine compressor power is increased, vibration problems on the marine vessel with V/W type reciprocating compressor have been occurred. A research on the balancing of marine V/W type reciprocating compressor has hardly been reported though a number of researches on the balancing of rotating machinery have been conducted. As a V/W type compressor has high capacity with long stroke, compact size and high center of gravity, It is easy to have a vibration problem by a little bit unbalanced force and moment. In this study, calculation methods for balance weight of the V/W type reciprocating compressors, which have different piston weight and asymmetry structure, are formulated. And their reliability were verified by comparing calculated balance weight with the experimental results of the real marine V/W type reciprocating compressors.

  • Sewage sludge and clay used as raw materials in the study. Green aggregates contain different contents by dried weight of the sewage sludge, up to 80 percent is manufactured and burning conditions of soak temperature, soak time and rate of temperature increase. influence of burning condition and mixing ratio on specific gravity of burned aggregate are discussed. The appropriate burning condition to all aggregates is evaluated. Aggregates result form the thermal treatment get specific gravity under 0.8, water absorption fewer than 7.5 percent, and aggregate crushing value from 28 to 53. As the result, aggregates can be available as the lightweight aggregate for non-structural concrete.

  • In this paper, a new steering system for a self-balancing electric scooter is proposed with an intuitive steering command input method, where the steering command is generated from the rider's motion of shifting body to move the center of gravity toward the rotational direction. For the purpose, weight distributions on the rider's feet are measured using force sensors placed beneath the rider's feet, and the difference is applied to a steering control system. Stability of the steering system and resultant radius of gyration is investigated by modeling the steering system in consideration of the rider's motion and centrifugal force. The proposed steering system is applied to experiments, and the results are presented to prove the validity of the proposed method.

  • The application of composites as an alternative material for marine steel hatch covers is the subject of this study. Two separate approaches are considered; weight reduction approach and strengthening approach. For both approaches Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was performed using ANSYS software. Critical design parameters of the composite hatch cover and FEA are discussed in details. Regarding the weight reduction approach; steel hatch covers of a bulk carrier were replaced by composite covers and a weight reduction of 44.32% was achieved leading to many benefits including fuel saving, Deadweight Increment and lower center of gravity of the vessel. For the strengthening approach; the foremost hatch cover was strengthened to withstand 150% of the load required by IACS for safer navigation while no change in weight was made between the steel and composite covers. Results show that both approaches are feasible and advantageous.

  • LRU (Line Replacement Unit) modifications are often required for military aircraft due to aging. Recently, LRU modifications were proceeded for KA-O (Armed Airborne Controller) by replacing the ejection seat and adding avionic equipment, which made the aircraft's operational CG (Center of Gravity) on fuel consumption curve become out of the range of the specification requested. The off-ranged CG should be corrected by introducing an appropriate method. This study proposes a procedure for revising and verifying the empty weight CG altered due to LRU modification for small military aircraft (e.g., KA-O). In the proposed method, first, the change of empty weight CG of KA-O due to the LRU modifications is comprehensively examined. Then, several ballast masses are added to the engine mount strut to restore the empty weight CG on the fuel consumption curve to a safe operational range. The installations are verified via stress and fatigue analysis for various operating conditions. Considering that open information is not very available for the revision of empty weight CG, this study is valuable because it presents an established procedure for correcting and verifying empty weight CG during aircraft modification.
