Since the contents of internet resources are beginning to include texts, images and sounds, different Web-based image search engines have been developed accordingly. It is a fact that these diversities of multimedia contents have made search process and retrieval of relevant information very difficult. The purpose of the study is to compare and evaluate its special features and performance of the existing image search engines in order to provide user help to select appropriate search engines. The study selected AV Photo Finder, Lycos MultiMedia, Amazing Picture Machine, Image Surfer, WebSeek, Ditto for comparison and evaluation because of their reputations of popularity among users of image search engines. The methodology of the study was to analyze previous related literature and establish criteria for the evaluation of image search engines. The study investigated characteristics, indexing methods, search capabilities, screen display and user interfaces of different search engines for the purpose of comparison of its performance. Finally, the study measured relative recall and precision ratios to evaluate their electiveness of retrieval under the experimental set up. Results of the comparative analysis in regard to its search performance are as follows. AV Photo Finder marked the highest rank among other image search engines. Ditto and WebSeek also showed comparatively high precision ratio. Lycos MultiMedia and Image Surfer follows after them. Amazing Picture Machine stowed the lowest in ranking.

It is essential for any public institution to establish a systematical scheme and a management system to maintain the contents and securities of its ever-expandingweb-site with efficiency. The general users want a reliable system and a simple and stress-free web environment, and expect the public institutions to maintain the accuracy and conformity of information they provide to the public. In かis study, 1 examined a web-site owned by a certain governmental research institute for the current maintenance status and problems to seek an effective and easy-to-use scheme for both users and web managers. Based on what I teamed from my study, 1 moved on to design a web integration system and tested it on the above mentioned web-site for analysis.

We have implemented an interactive multimedia education system for C programming. The system consists of two pars. One is multimedia contents to help students better understand C language syntax, programming style, and program logic and the other is a web-based compilation support system that compiles C programs at the server side which are submitted trough Web by students and returns their execution results to the students' PC. Although there are currently some restrictions that students should replace the inputs functions such as scanf(), getc() and getch() with assignment statements or fscanf(fp, , ), since the system has been implemented using general web technologies and shareware C compiler, the education system could be one solution that education institutions seek to reduce annual immense expenditure of money on C complier.

Web services provide an effective means to carry out coordinated transactions between multiple, independent business parties. While there are several specific protocols currently being discussed to address the coordination of web services-enabled business transactions, we consider the tentative hold protocol (THP) that allows the placement of tentative holds on business resources prior to actual transactions in order to provide increased flexibility in coordination. In this paper, we present a formal coordination framework for applying THP in conjunction with 2PC to the problem in which service providers independently manage resources and clients seek to acquire the resources from multiple providers as a single atomic transaction. The proposed framework facilitates the performance optimization of THP through effective parameterization with the notion of overhold size and hold duration. The simulation results show that the proposed adaptive approach yields a significant improvement over other non-adaptive policies.

The development of internet technology and communication is a great influenced on trends of our society in culture, economy, and policy. The informationized society related internet brought the change into the designer's attitude. Namely, designers who have a concern about internet web knew that the quality of design is more important in the web site to seek the new approach to the design in relation to internet market of an imaginary cyberspace. But we have not a good tool to evaluate the web design in the internet graphic interface especially by visual perception. Now, the major concern for this research is to study the evaluation criteria of the web design interface and offer some solutions to bring the objectivity of the evaluation method model in other to make the base of a new Internet culture in Korea.

A Web-based environment has very various and heterogeneous users. The emphasis on their individual characteristics may make it hard to reach the general understanding of how they seek and use information on the Web. The purpose of this study is to find common patterns in information seeking behavior on the Web by analyzing a series of cognitive movement of users in interaction with the Web. Based on Dervin's concept and Timeline interview methodology, this study collected 37 Web experience descriptions from 21 respondents, which consisted of 302 steps. Findings addressed that Web information seeking behavior can be classified into seven types : Starting, Searching, Viewing/B row sing , Examining/comparing, Finding/compiling, Deciding/Acting, and Ending. Movement paths in the seven-type information seeking process showed that user's interaction with the Web was repeated and circulated at the Viewing/Browsing step and that information seeking behavior on the Web was multi-directional and non-linear.

Due to the rapid proliferation of the web in recent years, many educators seek to improve the effectiveness of their instruction by providing innovative web-based course material to their students. Lots of web-based education contents are developed especially. They help to teach and train students. They expand widely due to repetition learning any time, any where. In this paper we implemented usage of C functions, quizes for checking comprehension of statements in C programming lecture and developed scenario helping concepts, algorithm comprehension. We made them web-based visual representation. They were implemented as FLASH animations or Java applets. They were well received by students.

Modern society came to enjoy dramatically advanced information technologies by the digitalization of New Media with the improvement of communication technologies and interaction between various information system and technologies. New service by web, not only text but image, audio and moving image have opened new experience possible for us. The development was possible because the web has characteristics of media making Remediation of various media possible. The web has remediated newspaper, magazines, TV, audio, movie by taking them, competing with them, attacking them and absorbing them. As a result, now we can enjoy various characteristics of different media at the Web. This study is to look into the effectiveness of Remediation at web design through various case studies. This study also is to seek more effective methods of expressions in the web and future improvement direction.
