GIS AND WEB-BASED DSS FOR PRELIMINARY TMDL DEVELOPMENT

  • TMDL development and implementation have great potential fur use in efforts to improve water quality management, but the TMDL approach still has several difficulties to overcome in terms of cost, time requirements, and suitable methodologies. A well-defined prioritization approach for identifying watersheds of concern among several tar-get locations that would benefit from TMDL development and implementation, based on a simple screening approach, could be a major step in solving some of these difficulties. Therefore, a web-based decision support system (DSS) was developed to help identify areas within watersheds that might be priority areas for TMDL development. The DSS includes a graphical user interface based on the HTML protocol, hydrological models, databases, and geographic information system (GIS) capabilities. The DSS has a hydrological model that can estimate non-point source pollution loading based on over 30 years of daily direct runoff using the curve number method and pollutant event mean concentration data. The DSS provides comprehensive output analysis tools using charts and tables, and also provides probability analysis and best management practice cost estimation. In conclusion, the DSS is a simple, affordable tool for the preliminary study of TMDL development via the Internet, and the DSS web site can also be used as an information web server for education related to TMDL.

Web GIS기반의 복합적 토양 질 평가 시스템 개발 (Development of Composite Soil Quality Index Evaluation System based on Web GIS)

  • It has been known that torrential rainfall events have been occurring worldwide due to climate change. The accelerated soil erosion has caused negative impacts on water quality and ecosystem of receiving waterbodies. Since soil security issues have been arising in various areas of the world, intensive interests have been given to topsoil management in Korea. Thus in this study, Web GIS-based computing system of physical, chemical, and biological topsoil quality indices were developed. In this study, five soil quality maps at national scale and top soil erosion potential were prepared for evaluation of soil quality based on soil erosion potential. For this system, the open source Web GIS engine, OpenGeo, was used as core engine of the system. With this system, decision makers or related personnel in areas of soil erosion Best Management Practices (BMPs) would be able to find the most appropriate soil erosion BMPs based on soil erosion potential and soil quality at the area of interest. The Web GIS system would be efficiently used in decision making processes because of ease-of-use interface and scientific data used in this system. This Web GIS system would be efficiently used because this system could provide scientific knowledge to decision makers or stakeholders. Currently various BMP database are being built to be used as a decision support system in topsoil management and topsoil quality areas.

멀티미디어 의사결정지원시스템 구축을 위한 효율적 모형관리기법에 관한 연구 (Effective Model Management Approach to Multimedia Decision Support Systems)

  • As the Internet is used extensively, multimedia information becomes more prevailing and accessible. However, legacy decision support systems rarely mention how to put such multimedia contents into practical use for decision making and support. In particular, no proposals have yet been made on how to integrate the decision technologies and multimedia databases in model management systems. Hence, the aim of this paper is to propose a new model management method to integrating decision technologies and an image database management system to create a multimedia decision support. For this purpose, extended ARG and structured modeling techniques are adopted, to represent image contents and mathematical models respectively. A web-based prototype system is presented to illustrate the feasibility and usability of the methodology.

전자조달을 위한 공급자 선택 지원 시스템의 개발 (A Decision Support System for Supplier Selection in B2B E-procurement)

  • Nowadays many enterprises build e-procurement systems. An e-procurement is a Web-based procurement process and its functionalities are considered important in the B2B e-commerce. Buyers should select competent suppliers for a successful e-procurement. Therefore, this study proposes a method using the analytic hierarchy process(AHP) for building a Web-based supplier selection system. In detail, the purpose of this study is (1) to review methods previously used when buyers selecting suppliers and to extract important selection criteria: (2) to explain extended AHP method adopted by this study among supplier selection methods: (3) to describe the supplier selection steps using extended AHP : and (4) to propose a decision support system embedding the methodology described above. The proposed system comprises of three phase: first phase is to evaluate suppliers on enterprise level: second phase to evaluate them on each transaction level: third phase to post-evaluate them.

웹 기반의 공간정보예측시스템을 이용한 통합적 하수도 관리 시스템의 개발 및 적용 (An Integrated Sewer Management System using Web Based Predictive Spatial Information System)

  • Web based integrated sewer management system was developed for the analysis of sewer flow and for the optimal operation of sewer works using ArcView and SWMM. SWMM and ArcView were dynamically linked together using Avenue in order to construct user-friendly information management system. The developed system was applied to the residential area in Choonchun city to verify its utilities. All the relevant field data were analyzed on the basis of the developed system, and the modeling of sewer flow was implemented using RUNOFF, EXTRAN, TRANSPORT in SWMM. This system is now in the process of connection to the management system of stormwater, surface and subsurface environment in order to develop an integrated environmental management system. Futhermore, this system will be a critical part of overall control system of sewer works including sewer network and wastewater treatment plant. As this system can provide comprehensive prediction of flow and pollution profiles, it could serve as a tool not only for the optimal management, but also for the decision support system to examine the efficiency of planning and implementation of sewer projects.

  • Recall aims to remove the products hazardous to consumers or users from the commerce. However, a recall with a poor decision making procedure could results in disaster to corporations. Therefore, recall managers should establish a proper recall plan in advance to minimize the damage to business. The purpose of the study is to propose a computerized recall management system(RMSys) to handle recall process systematically and timely manners. RMSys, a recall decision-making procedures software, consists of two different modules such as recall decision-making module and recall procedure module. RMSys on the basis of the world wide web is designed to be compatible to ERP(Enterprise Resources Panning). RMSys could play a role as a management support system to help the corporations recall the hazardous products with minimum efforts.

A Decision Support System for Small & Medium Construction Companies (SMCCs) at the early stages of international projects

  • Despite the significant increase of Korean contractors in the international construction market, many SMCCs (Small & Medium Construction Companies) have suffered in the global financial crisis, and some of them have been kicked out of the international market after experiencing huge losses on projects. SMCCs face obstacles in the international market, such as an insufficient ability to gather information and inappropriate management of associated risks, which lead to difficulties in establishing effective business strategies. In other words, making immature decisions without an effective business strategy may cause not only the failure of one project but also the bankruptcy of the SMCC. To overcome this, the research presented herein aims to propose a decision support system for SMCCs, which would screen projects and make a go/no-go decision at the early stages of international projects. The proposed system comprises a double axis: (1) a profit prediction model, which evaluates 10 project properties using an objective methodology based on a historical project performance database and roughly suggests expected profit rate, and (2) a feasibility assessment model, which evaluates 17 project environment factors in a subjective and quantitative methodology based on experience and supervision. Finally, a web-based system is established to enhance the practical usability, which is expected to be a good reference for inexperienced SMCCs to make proper decisions and establish effective business strategies.

  • 국내 건설산업은 경기 침체로 인한 수주 경쟁의 심화, 열악한 작업환경과 숙련공의 부족으로 인한 생산성저하, 다양한 고객의 요구 등의 문제점으로 어려움을 겪고 있으며, 신기술· 신공법 개발을 통한 생산성 향상, 공기단축, 원가절감, 품질 향상 등과 관련한 노력이 절실히 요구되고 있다. 선진 외국의 경우, 이러한 문제점을 해결하고자 1980년대 초반부터 건설자동화에 관한 연구개발이 진행되어 왔으며 현재 가시적인 성과를 거두고 있다. 그러나 국내의 경우 최근 건설 자동화에 대한 관심은 증대하고 있으나 자동화 기술개발을 위한 관련 정보의 부족으로 인해 연구개발을 위한 구체적인 접근방법을 수립하는데 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다. 따라서 본 논문은 국내 건설자동화 연구개발의 기반 조성을 위해 기존의 건설자동화 연구개발에 대한 정보들을 수집 분석하여 웹 기반 검색 및 의사결정 지원시스템을 구축하였으며, 이를 통해 건설자동화 관련 연구를 수행하거나 기술개발에 관심이 있는 연구개발 주체들은 건설자동화 연구대상을 선정하는데 필요한 시간과 노력을 절감할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
