  • Mobile web applications are different from desktop web applications because of their small screen size and small user input devices. Therefore user interface designers have spent their effort and time to re-design the user interface of mobile web applications to meet these differences. In this paper, we introduce five user interface patterns for mobile web applications to reduce their effort and time. Two of them are for utilizing small screen size efficiently, and they are space overloading pattern and data filtering pattern. These patterns enable designers to reduce screen usage. The other three patterns - data suggestion pattern, input reuse pattern, and incremental data input pattern - are for helping users' data input on mobile devices. These three patterns enable users to reduce direct data input. Our work will help user interface designers develop mobile web interface to utilize screen space efficiently and get data with less errors and less efforts from users.

  • The enlarge the range of internet users require user centered design method what understanding of cognitive faculties about users by different age groups. This study aims at analyzing cognitive faculties about visual information on web interface by different age groups, presenting visual perception cognitive process model as an evaluation model and proposing an effective web interface design guideline, On the basis of analyzing cognitive faculties verified what each detail property of visual perception cognitive process model as form, color, space, movement and physiological, physical cognitive faculties had have individual cognitive faculties. As the result visual perception cognitive process model suggested in this study can be used as an evaluation model of web interface and users' cognitive faculties analyzed in visual perception measurement by different age groups can be applied as a web interface design guideline. In addition, this study has a meaning in that it makes a chance to extend a web designer's roles and establish a direction of future research by usability of different age groups.

  • This study describes the semantic theoretic interpretation through the extensive use of semantic metaphors for intensive web interface with information and the metaphoric value of metaphors for interface design. Common factors that influence web design are empirical establishment and verification for generating web symbols and these are have important elemental perspectives that are used to assess the usefulness and key elements of the site. In addition, the structure of the screen has begun to change dynamically from the application of web technological functions, and the media functions have become important to make web standards when implementing visual structuring from the perspective of semiotic. Instead of using a technical expression approach to examine semiotic, a semiotic approach is applied to create aesthetic codes through the human-computer interface in terms of semiotic in a variety of natural and universal fields. Based on this, it is used as means of communication to convey the intended meaning to users so as to highlight the importance of the usability issues and metaphors user interface.

  • The development of internet technology and communication is a great influenced on trends of our society in culture, economy, and policy. The informationized society related internet brought the change into the designer's attitude. Namely, designers who have a concern about internet web knew that the quality of design is more important in the web site to seek the new approach to the design in relation to internet market of an imaginary cyberspace. But we have not a good tool to evaluate the web design in the internet graphic interface especially by visual perception. Now, the major concern for this research is to study the evaluation criteria of the web design interface and offer some solutions to bring the objectivity of the evaluation method model in other to make the base of a new Internet culture in Korea.

  • With the increasing number and variety of internet users as well as the development of internet technology, web contents have been taking a more comprehensive, integrated, and practical form. This change has brought to our attention the importance of the information architecture and menu design, both of which are required for the users to navigate vast amount of data promptly, correctly and easily for effective communication in the web sites. In this study, web sites were categorized by the service levels provided to the users, and sampling was performed accordingly. Then, information architecture, the layout and the presentation of the menu design were analyzed. The result of the analysis show that there are distinguishable characteristics in how the menus were expressed and designed, and that these characteristics reflect the users' characteristics in the web interface menu design. With the result of this study, we present a guideline for information architecture and web interface menu design, which reflects user characteristics thereby strengthening usability. Using this guideline, we expect the development of web interface design which should support more efficient communication on the web.
