  • This paper proposes a hybrid machine-learning model, which is called DANN-IP, that combines a deep artificial neural network (DANN) and an interior-point (IP) algorithm in order to improve the prediction capacity on the patch loading resistance of steel plate girders. For this purpose, 394 steel plate girders that were subjected to patch loading were tested in order to construct the DANN-IP model. Firstly, several DANN models were developed in order to establish the relationship between the patch loading resistance and the web panel length, the web height, the web thickness, the flange width, the flange thickness, the applied load length, the web yield strength, and the flange yield strength of steel plate girders. Accordingly, the best DANN model was chosen based on three performance indices, which included the R^2, RMSE, and a20-index. The IP algorithm was then adopted to optimize the weights and biases of the DANN model in order to establish the hybrid DANN-IP model. The results obtained from the proposed DANN-IP model were compared with of the results from the DANN model and the existing empirical formulas. The comparison showed that the proposed DANN-IP model achieved the best accuracy with an R^2 of 0.996, an RMSE of 23.260 kN, and an a20-index of 0.891. Finally, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) tool was developed in order to effectively use the proposed DANN-IP model for practical applications.

  • New internet trend, such as Web 2.0, has brought about new roles of users and changes in the web ecosystem. In the age of information overload like nowadays, activities in the brand community sites help to make more reasonable decisions in choosing certain brands and products. In order to examine organizational strategic aspects of brand community, this study examine (1) what difference exists in user satisfaction according to the brand community types (the user-initiated type and the corporate-established type), and (2) which dimensions of service quality affect brand community users' satisfaction. Research findings show that types of brand community influence perceived user satisfaction, and tangibility, reliability, interactivity, and stability dimensions of service quality make a positive influence on user satisfaction as well. Practical implications for managing brand community sites in marketing perspectives are further discussed.

  • Electronic learning(or e-learning) has created hype for companies, universities, and other educational institutions. It has led to the phenomenal growth in the use of web-based learning and experimentation with multimedia, video conferencing, and internet-based technologies. Many researchers are interested in the factors that affect to the performance of e-learning or e-learning services. In this sense, this study is aimed at proposing e-learning system reuse prediction models in which e-learner intention to reuse influence factors(i.e., system accessibility, system stability, information clarity, information validity, self-regulated efficacy, computer self-efficacy, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, flow, and parental expectation) affect e-learner intention to reuse positively. A web survey was conducted for the full members of the e-learning education institute A in Seoul, Republic of Korea, an exclusive e-learning company that provides real time video lectures via the desktop conferencing system. The web survey was conducted for 20 days from November 5, 2009, through the e-learning web site of the company A. In this study, three data mining techniques were used : the multivariate discriminant analysis, CART, and C5.0 algorithm. This study was conducted to provide the e-learning service providers, e-learning operators, and contents developers with marketing and management strategies for improving the e-learning service companies, based on the data mining analysis results.

  • Text categorization systems generally use single words (unigrams) as features. A deceptively simple algorithm for improving text categorization is investigated here, an idea previously shown not to work. It is to identify useful word pairs (bigrams) made up of adjacent unigrams. The bigrams it found, while small in numbers, can substantially raise the quality of feature sets. The algorithm was tested on two pre-classified datasets, Reuters-21578 for English and Korea-web for Korean. The results show that the algorithm was successful in extracting high quality bigrams and increased the quality of overall features. To find out the role of bigrams, we trained the Na$\"{i}$ve Bayes classifiers using both unigrams and bigrams as features. The results show that recall values were higher than those of unigrams alone. Break-even points and F1 values improved in most documents, especially when documents were classified along the large classes. In Reuters-21578 break-even points increased by 2.1%, with the highest at 18.8%, and F1 improved by 1.5%, with the highest at 3.2%. In Korea-web break-even points increased by 1.0%, with the highest at 4.5%, and F1 improved by 0.4%, with the highest at 4.2%. We can conclude that text classification using unigrams and bigrams together is more efficient than using only unigrams.

  • Many kinds of OGC-based web standards have been utilized in the lots of geo-spatial application fields for sharing and interoperable processing of large volume of data sets containing satellite images. As well, the number of cloud-based application services by on-demand processing of virtual machines is increasing. However, remote sensing applications using these two huge trends are globally on the initial stage. This study presents a practical linkage case with both aspects of OGC-based standard and cloud computing. Performance test is performed with the implementation result for cloud detection processing. Test objects are WPS 2.0 and two types of geo-based service environment such as web server in a single core and multiple virtual servers implemented on OpenStack cloud computing environment. Performance test unit by JMeter is five requests of GetCapabilities, DescribeProcess, Execute, GetStatus, GetResult in WPS 2.0. As the results, the performance measurement time in a cloud-based environment is faster than that of single server. It is expected that expansion of processing algorithms by WPS 2.0 and virtual processing is possible to target-oriented applications in the practical level.

  • As web 2.0 becomes one of the important architecture styles, more web applications adopt single page structure instead of multiple web pages and navigations between pages. A single page web application client, called a mashup client in this paper, interfaces more than one services and allows users to navigate in the page. A mashup client page includes complicated functions and has to handle various styles of services and user requirements, and therefore is usually developed manually. In this paper, we propose a model driven code generation approach for in-page navigations. We propose a page model and view navigation design approach, applying REST service architecture patterns. Then, we consider type conditions for each view to have service calls or navigation controls. Also, we developed an XForms page code generation system to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method. The developed system generates mashup client pages including navigation controls between services and views. This system can generate ready to use codes from service specifications, so this can help to reduce the development overhead. Moreover, our approach is based on formal model and navigation patterns so the generated result code is simple and easy to understand, and includes only the necessary controls. Therefore, the proposed approach can be more effective for the case of a large number of services.

  • In cloud computing, a enterprise or a client can use resources of computers that they are not own them. In case of Web 2.0 applications, such as Facebook, it is difficult to predict the maximum popularity of the service. But, the cloud computing may give a solution about this problem without high cost, thus becomes wildly popular. One of the advantage of cloud computing is providing a high availability. To provide the availability when the cloud computing that has shared-nothing architecture, strict consistency is not well with cloud computing. So, some consistency was proposed including the eventual consistency that was weaken the traditional consistency and has been adopted to many cloud applications. In this paper, we observe various consistency criteria that can adjust to cloud computing and discuss about some consistency that can be adapted to many applications of cloud computing.

  • Advances in Information Communication Technologies (ICT) have demonstrated tremendous potential for solving development challenges and improving development processes, culminating in the new Development 2.0. Many development practitioners have embraced ICT (particularly on Web 2.0 and mobile phone technologies and applications), which have become hot topics in both the development community and the policy community as they engage in development practice and dialogue. Despite this excitement, there lacks among the policy community a robust understanding of the powers and pitfalls of ICT in development, executed actions to back the excited chatter, and dissemination of this understanding to practitioners and policymakers alike. We conducted a literature review, interviewed experts, and engaged in discussion with leaders in international development and science and technology policy to provide an operational framework base in which to view ICT in development. This framework regards ICT as tools that support more effective and efficient community development actions and appropriate consideration of general guidelines, which enable better engagement across and within sectors and individuals. Flexibility and accountability are critical requirements pervading throughout the various actions and guidelines, which promote transparent, partnership-based, and sustainable development. We highlight the strengths and weaknesses of ICT to focus on the cautions to keep ICT access and distribution in context, understand the various levels of technologies and services, and dig below the surface as excitement about ICT increases and threatens to become a short-term solution. We offer ideas for specific programs that policymakers can implement to contribute to a more efficient and effective development process to ultimately support global human development, but stress the endless possibilities that can be explored with creativity and flexibility beyond what is proposed here.
