As user-centered design and content development emerge, the research and the establishment of items on usability evaluation are becoming more important. However, research on usability evaluation for digital systems in specific areas of mobile applications is still incomplete. Due to the recent development of wearable devices and smartphones, development and usage of quantified-self and life-logging applications has been rapidly increasing. This study aims to establish evaluation items and the main factors for the usability assessment of the applications that support life-logging services. In order to establish evaluation factors for life-logging application usability, we first gathered existing usability assessment items and selected the initial items through the Focus Group Interview(FGI). Second, we conducted user assessment surveys on the selected initial questionnaires and performed reliability and exploratory factor analyses based on the survey results. Third, through the statistical analyses results, we established 28 usability assessment items and four factors: recognition; functionality; aesthetics; and satisfaction. Finally, we discussed the expectations and limitations of the established usability assessment. The results from this paper could be used as a guideline for the usability assessment of life-logging applications and thus will contribute to effective content development.

With the advancement of wearable devices and wireless body are networks, smart healthcare systems based on such technologies have been emerging to effectively monitor patient health and disease progression. In order to implement viable smart healthcare systems, the security and privacy of patient's personal health information must be considered. Yang et al. proposed a privacy-preserving authentication scheme using key-insulation technique for remote health monitoring system, however, key-insulation technique is not properly adapted to their scheme which in turn causes a security pitfall contrary to their assertions. Besides, Yang et al.'s scheme does not guarantee user anonymity against healthcare service provider. Therefore, in this paper, we discuss the security concerns for Yang et al.'s scheme and present an improved anonymous authentication scheme.

In the development of various types of sensor technology, the general users smartphone, the environment is increased, which can be seen in contact with the movement recognition device, such as a console game machine (Nintendo Wii), an increase in the user needs of the action recognition-based input device there is a tendency to have. Mouse existing behavior recognition, attached to the outside, is mounted in the form of mouse button is deformed, the left mouse was the role of the right button and a wheel, an acceleration sensor (or a gyro sensor) inside to, plays the role of a mouse cursor, is to manufacture a compact, there is a difficulty in operating the button, to apply a motion recognition technology is used to operate recognition technology only pointing cursor is limited. Therefore, in this paper, using a MEMS-based motion-les Koguni tion sensor (Motion Recognition Sensor), to recognize the behavior of the two points of the human body (thumb and forefinger), to generate the motion data, and this to the foundation, compared to the pre-determined matching table (moving and mouse button events cursor), and generates a control signal by determining, were studied the generated control signal input device of the computer wirelessly transmitting.
For wearable health monitoring systems, a fundamental problem is the limited space for storing energy, which can be translated into a short operational life. In this paper, a highly efficient active voltage doubling rectifier with a wide input range for micro-piezoelectric energy harvesting systems is proposed. To obtain a higher output voltage, the Dickson charge pump topology is chosen in this design. By replacing the passive diodes with unbalanced-biased comparator-controlled active counterparts, the proposed rectifier minimizes the voltage losses along the conduction path and solves the reverse leakage problem caused by conventional comparator-controlled active diodes. To improve the rectifier input voltage sensitivity and decrease the minimum operational input voltage, two low power common-gate comparators are introduced in the proposed design. To keep the comparator from oscillating, a positive feedback loop formed by the capacitor C is added to it. Based on the SMIC 0.18-μm standard CMOS process, the proposed rectifier is simulated and implemented. The area of the whole chip is 0.91×0.97 mm2, while the rectifier core occupies only 13% of this area. The measured results show that the proposed rectifier can operate properly with input amplitudes ranging from 0.2 to 1.0V and with frequencies ranging from 20 to 3000 Hz. The proposed rectifier can achieve a 92.5% power conversion efficiency (PCE) with input amplitudes equal to 0.6 V at 200 Hz. The voltage conversion efficiency (VCE) is around 93% for input amplitudes greater than 0.3 V and load resistances larger than 20kΩ.
In this paper, we propose a method of recognizing emotions using PPG sensor which measures blood flow according to emotion. From the existing PPG signal, we use a method of determining positive emotions and negative emotions in the frequency domain through PSD (Power Spectrum Density). Based on James R. Russell's two-dimensional prototype model, we classify emotions as joy, sadness, irritability, and calmness and examine their association with the magnitude of energy in the frequency domain. It is significant that this study used the same PPG sensor used in wearable devices to measure the top four kinds of emotions in the frequency domain through image experiments. Through the questionnaire, the accuracy, the immersion level according to the individual, the emotional change, and the biofeedback for the image were collected. The proposed method is expected to be various development such as commercial application service using PPG and mobile application prediction service by merging with context information of existing smart phone.

The IBC (Intra-Body Communication) benefits from a wireless communication system for exchanging various kinds of digital information through wearable electronic devices and sensors. The IBC using the human body as the transmission channel allows wireless communication without the transmitting radio frequency waves to the air. This paper discusses the results of experiments on electrostatic coupling IBC based on FSK (Frequency Shift Keying) and 1 bit error correction. We implemented FSK communication and 1 bit error correction algorithm using the MCU boards and aluminum tape electrodes. The transmitter modulates digital data using 50% duty square wave as carrier signal and transmits data through human body. The receiver performs ADC (Analog to Digital Conversion) on carrier signal from human body. In order to figure out the frequency of carrier signal from ADC results, we applied zero-crossing algorithm which is used to detect the edge characteristic in computer vision. Experiment results shows that digital data modulated as square wave can be successfully transmitted through human body by applying the proposed architecture of a 1ch GPIO as a transmitter and 1ch ADC for as a receiver. Also, this paper proposes 1 bit error correction technique for reliable IBC. This technique performs error correction by utilizing the feature that carrier signal has 50% duty ratio. When 1 bit error correction technique is applied, the byte error rate at receiver side is improved around 3.5% compared to that not applied.
Purpose: This study investigated the effects of virtual reality-based task training (VRBTT) using a smart glove on upper extremity function and activity of daily living in stroke patients. Methods: Twenty-nine patients with chronic stroke disease were randomly allocated to two groups: the VRBTT group (n=14) and the control group (n=15). All patients received 30 minutes of standard occupational therapy, 5 times a week, for 8 weeks. The VRBTT group performed an additional 30 minutes of virtual reality-based rehabilitation training, 5 times a week, for 8 weeks. Results: Both groups showed significant improvements in upper extremity function, yielding an increase in FMA and K-WMFT (p<0.05). There was a more significant increase in the VRBTT group before and after interventions (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in MAS for the control group (p>0.05); however, there was a significant increase for the VRBTT group (p<0.05). In the activities of daily living, there was a significant difference in the values for K-MBI (p<0.05). In addition, both groups showed a significant increase for K-MBI and K-RNLI (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that VRBTT using smart gloves can have a more positive effect on upper extremity function and activities of daily living in stroke patients than conventional intervention methods. A variety of virtual reality-based contents and glove-shaped wearable devices will help stroke patients in rehabilitation clinics recover and return to society.
With the introduction of video cameras into law enforcement, a great deal of police organizations have adopted the technology in their routine crime prevention activities. The up-to-date systems of ambient surveillance energized by CCTV, police wearable cameras, drones, and thermal imaging devices enable the police to thoroughly monitor public spaces as well as to rigorously arrest on-scene criminals. These efforts to improve the level of surveillance are often met with public resistance raising concerns over citizens' rights to privacy. Recent studies on the use of police video equipment have constantly raised the issues related to the lack of applicable legal provisions, risk of personal information and privacy infringement as well as security vulnerabilities. In this regard, the present study attempted to review the public surveillance methods currently used by law enforcement agencies worldwide within the context of public safety and individual rights to privacy. Furthermore, the present study also discussed the legal boundaries of police use of video equipment to address public concerns over privacy issues.
