파이어링 상태의 일정 축 각속도에서 엔진 베어링의 마모 해석 - Part I: 베어링 마모발생 부위 파악 (Wear Analysis of Engine Bearings at Constant Shaft Angular Speed on a Firing State - Part I: Understanding of Bearing Wear Region)

  • The purpose of Part I of this study is to find the potential region of wear scarring on engine journal bearings operating at a constant angular crank shaft velocity under firing conditions. To do this, we calculate the applied loads and eccentricities of a big-end journal bearing installed on a four-stroke and four-cylinder engine at every crank angle. Then, we find potential wear regions, such as a minimum oil film thickness, at every crank angle below most oil film thickness scarring wear (MOFTSW) obtained based on the concept of the centerline average surface roughness. Thus, the wear region is defined as a set of each film thickness below the MOFTSW at every crank angle. In this region, the wear volume changes according to the wear depth and wear angle, depending on the minimum oil film thickness at every crank angle. The total wear volume is the summation during one cycle. Graphical views of the region in the two-dimensional coordinates show the crank angle and bearing angle along the journal center path, indicating the position of the minimum oil film thickness. The results of wear analysis show that the possible wear region is located at a few tens of angles behind the upper center of a big-end bearing at maximum power rpm.

  • The investigation of the disc cutter wear prediction has an important guiding role in TBM equipment selection, project planning, and cost forecasting, especially when tunneling in a long-distance rock formations with high strength and high abrasivity. In this study, a comprehensive database of disc cutter wear data, geological properties, and tunneling parameters is obtained from a 1326 m excavated metro tunnel project in leptynite in Shenzhen, China. The failure forms and wear consumption of disc cutters on site are analyzed with emphasis. The results showed that 81% of disc cutters fail due to uniform wear, and other cutters are replaced owing to abnormal wear, especially flat wear of the cutter rings. In addition, it is found that there is a reasonable direct proportional relationship between the uniform wear rate (WR) and the installation radius (R), and the coefficient depends on geological characteristics and tunneling parameters. Thus, a preliminary prediction formula of the uniform wear rate, based on the installation radius of the cutterhead, was established. The correlation between some important geological properties (KV and UCS) along with some tunneling parameters (Fn and p) and wear rate was discussed using regression analysis methods, and several prediction models for uniform wear rate were developed. Compared with a single variable, the multivariable model shows better prediction ability, and 89% of WR can be accurately estimated. The prediction model has reliability and provides a practical tool for wear prediction of disc cutter under similar hard rock projects with similar geological conditions.

노내 연료봉 지지조건 예측 방법론 개발 (Development of A Methodology for In-Reactor Fuel Rod Supporting Condition Prediction)

  • 프레팅마모 기인 연료봉 손상을 방지할 수 있는 노내 연료봉 지지조건은 잔여 지지격자스프링 변위량 또는 연료봉 /지지격자 갭에 의해 평가될 수 있다. 핵연료 설계 인자들이 프레팅마모 손상에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위해 연소도의 함수로서 노내 연료봉 지지조건을 모사할 수 있는 방법론을 사용하여 GRID-FORCE프로그램을 개발하였다. 이 프로그램에서는 노내 연료봉 지지조건에 영향을 주는 주요 인자로서 피복관 크립, 초기 스프링 변위, 초기 스프링힘 그리고 스프링힘 조사이완이 고려된다. 이 주요 인자들에 대한 민감도 분석 결과, 초기 스프링 변위, 스프링힘 조사이완, 피복관 크립 순으로 노내 연료봉 지지조건에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 이 프로그램을 실제 노내에서 발생한 프레팅마모 기인 연료봉 손상에 적용한 결과를 토대로 판단해 볼 때 이 프로그램을 새로 개발된 피복관 재질 및 /또는 새로 개발된 지지격자 설계가 프레팅마모 기인 연료봉 손상을 방지할 수 있는 설계여유도를 효과적으로 평가할 수 있음을 알 수 있다.

  • Mechanical surface treatment is an excellent approach widely used to modulate and improve the performance and service life of bearings, gears, and frictional joints. The main purpose of this study is to investigate and compare the effect of ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification (UNSM) and wonder process craft (WPC) on the surface and tribological properties of SUJ2 bearing steel. The surface roughness and hardness of the untreated and treated (UNSM- and WPC-treated) specimens were measured and compared. Their tribological properties were evaluated using a micro-tribometer under grease-lubricated and dry conditions against itself. Surface hardness measurement results revealed that both the UNSM- and WPC-treated specimens had a higher hardness than that of the untreated specimen. The surface roughness of the untreated specimen was reduced after UNSM and WPC treatments. Abrasive wear mode was observed on the surface of the specimens worn under grease-lubricated conditions, while adhesive wear mode was found on the surface of the specimens worn in dry conditions. According to the tribological test results, the friction coefficient and wear rate of the untreated specimens were reduced by the application of both the UNSM and WPC treatments under grease-lubricated and dry conditions.

  • This paper reports the wear characteristics of two types of coating materials, which are $Cr_2O_3$ and $ZrO_2$, by coated plasma thermal spray method. The wear test was carried out under air, grease, and bearing fluid conditions. The wear testing machine of a pin-on disk type were used to measure friction forces, friction coefficients and the weight losses of the coating specimens on the various sliding velocity and loading condition. The wear surface of specimens were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) photographs.

  • In order to evaluate the effect of Nb on wear properties of high speed steel by powder metallurgy(PM-HSS), niobium-alloyed PM-HSS have been prepared by adding 0%, 1%, 3% and 5%Nb to PM-HSS of 6%W-5%Mo-4%Cr-5%V-5%Co presented in the previous paper. Sliding wear test have been conducted in various sliding speed conditions under the constant pressure using a pin-on-disc type machine. The results of this study shows that the wear resistance of PM-HSS has been increased by the addition of Nb in the range of experimental sliding speed. However, the amount of Nb shows to be unimportant parameter for the improvement of the wear resistance. It may be due to the thermal stability of carbide and high temperature properties of matrix by adding Nb comparing to the case of no addition.

  • This paper deals with a prediction method of tool life in view of the reliability assessment. In this study, the flank wear was studied among multi-factors deciding the tool wear state. Firstly, tool lift was predicted by correlation between flank wear and cutting time, based on the extended Taylor tool life equation of turning data, including parameters of cutting speed, feed rate, and cutting depth. Secondly, each of cutting conditions of endmilling was equivalently converted to apply ball endmill data to the extended Taylor equation. The web-based reliability prediction program for tool lift is being developed as one of reliability assessment programs to for the machine tools.

  • In order to achieve the autimation and untended system of manufacturing process, it is necessary that the monitoring system check up the disorder of machine tool or the conditions of tool wear for the maximum use of cutting tool. In the metal cutting Process, AE signal is detected by AE sensor, then amplified and transmitted to an Locan-AT. The experiment was performed to SM25C and STS304 steels at uniform feedrate, cutting speed and depth of cut, The results of experimental data apparently showed emission intensity vary due to increasing of tool wear at the 165kHz, 200kHz in the SM25C and 140kHz, 165kHz, 200kHz, in the STS304 respectively Therefore, it is possible to predict the tool wear. This study is intended to suggest the way to the automation and untended system of machine tool through the system monitoring tool wear by using AE signal.

  • The quality and productivity in machining automobile parts are influenced by various factors such as cutting conditions, vibration, and used tool. To improve the quality and productivity of the automobile parts(torsion beam), lots of research on the evaluation of tool life and control of surface roughness has been required. Therefore, the width of flank wear, cutting force, and surface roughness are monitored to analyse the characteristics of tool wear and surface roughness at different tools. This experimental investigation is mainly focused on the characteristics of the tool wear, tool life and surface roughness in multi-insert milling of automobile parts(torsion beam) by using uncoated tungsten carbide tool(WC), TiN coated tool, and cermet tool.

  • A model predicting thermal and wear crown in order to control strip crown and shape has been investigated at the hot roll mill. A basic equation of predicting wear crown was obtained experimentally whereas thermal crown was approximately analyzed by the integral method. The calculated result based on the accumulative model of basic eauation coincides with that measured under the real rolling conditions. The effect of wear corwn is also analyzed by the longitudinal feeding method of the work roll. The high frequency feeding method is recommended in removing local wear effectively.
