  • In recent years, the automization of cutting machine tools has been developed very fast. Hance, the in-process detection of cutting condition is very important for automatic manufacturing system in factory. Acoustic Emission(AE) has been widely used in monitoring the cutting conditions, because of high sensitivity of AE signal and low cost of AE equipment. This experimental study deals with the relations between AE signal, cutting force charcteristics and tool wear in the machining of SUS304. Face milling operation is used for the analysis between tool wear and AE signal.

  • Work rolls used in cold rolling mills must have outstanding wear resistance and very little plastic defor- mation. Thus, these rolls require a higher surface hardness and harding to a greater depth. To meet these requirements, the rolls, in general, have basic chemical composition of 0.7 to 1.0% carbon and 1.0 to 5.0% Cr(chromium), plus a small amounts of special elements, and are subjected to intensive water quenching and tempering at low temperature to provide a surface hardness of over 90 shore. This test results are as follows. Deflection and fracture load of 5% Cr material are than those of 3% Cr material and show flat curve from surface to subsurface. It will be clear that 5% Cr work roll has a superior resisti- bility against wear and abrasion comparing with 3% Cr work roll. The improvement of wear and abrasion in 5% Cr work roll will be achieved by the large amount of wpheroidal carbide. In grindability and polish, 5% Cr work roll will be a little inferior comparing with 3% Cr work roll.

  • This paper presents experimental results to know the charcteristics of machined surface due to cutter runout. Cutter runout is a common but undesirable phenomenon in multi-tooth machining such as end-milling process because it introduces variable chip loading to insert which results in a accelerated tool wear, amplification of force variation and hence enargement vibration amplitude. To develop in-proess cutter runout compensation system, set-up the micro-positoning mechanism which is based on piezoelectric translator embeded in the work holder to manipulate the depth of cut in real-time. And feasibility test of system was done under the various experimental cutting conditions. This results provide lots of information to build-up the precision machining technology.

  • In this study solid-phase sintered silicon caribide samples composed of SiC powder having boron and car-bon black as additives were prepared by pressureless sintering at $1950^{\circ}C$. The bending strength the frac-ture toughness and the specific werar rate of the samples were examined and the micro structures of the broken and the worn surface were observed by SEM to understand the relationship between the tri-bological charcteristics and the micro structure. Additionally the relationship between the micro struc-tures and the tribological characteristics of the samples for the frictional opponents SiC and $Al_{2}O_{3}$ pins were investigated Conclusions are as follows ; 1. The specific were rate of the samples for the SiC pin was larger than that for the $Al_{2}O_{3}$ pin. HOwever the specific wear rate for the $Al_{2}O_{3}$ pin was increased about 6,45 times as that for the SiC pin under the load increasing. 2. The specific wear rate of the SiC pin was larger than that of the $Al_{2}O_{3}$ pin. owever the specific wear rate of the $Al_{2}O_{3}$ pin was increased about 4 times as that of the SiC pin under the load increasing 3. The micro stucture of the worn surface showed a flat face without cracks in the case that the frictional opponents has the low friction coefficient but in the case of without cracks in the case that the frictional opponents has the low friction coefficient but in the case of the high friction coefficient the micro structure of the worn surface showed an uneven face having spread-ed cracks. 4. The tribological characteristics of thesolid-phase sintered SiC samples was similar to that of li-quid-phase sintered ones when the pin having the high friction coefficient was used.
