This study compares the educational effect using real equipment, virtual reality, and video to improve the educational and training effect of the army and verifies which method of education is excellent. The Army has made a lot of efforts to realize the actual training environment, however, it is increasingly difficult to provide the actual training environment because of 1) restrictions on securing training sites and urbanization, 2) deepening conflicts with the people, and 3) difficulties in acquiring defense budget. To resolve these issues, the use of virtual reality(VR) has the advantage to experience actual battlefield indirectly and could save budget by training in a virtual battlefield environment. In particular, in the case of dangerous or expensive weapons systems, is further required. Hence this paper studies how effective virtual reality is compared to the actual weapons system. virtual reality(VR) education is less effective than actual equipment education, but it is higher than video education. Based on this research result, it will be used as a basic data for the analysis of educational effects based in virtual reality(VR).

Through the 2014 Donbas conflict and the 2022 Ukraine-Russia war, we are experiencing that the command of the air is no longer only secured by the Air Force. Long-range surveillance reconnaissance and strikes carried out by the Air Force could be replaced by drones and missiles, and the enemy's aerial attacks could be controlled by air defense systems such as Panchir and portable anti-aircraft missiles, allowing ground forces to carry out maneuvers freely. In other words, it is much more advantageous for the air force and the navy to take control of the air through long-distance operations, and the ground forces should support them. Therefore, this study aims to consider the cost-effectiveness aspect of the delivery command of the air; it provides implications for quickly responding to enemy air attacks by developing the air defense weapon system, drones, missiles, precision-guided munitions, etc rather than focusing on expensive fighter jets.

Naval CMS(Combat Management System) is linked to various sensors and weapon equipment and use DDS(Data Distribution Service) for efficient data communication between ICU(Interface Control Unit) Node and IPN(Information Processing Node). In order to use DDS, software in the system communicates in an PUB/SUB(Publication/Subscribe) based on DDS topic. If the DDS messages structure in this PUB/SUB method does not match, problems such as incorrect command processing and wrong information delivery occur in sending and receiving application software. To improve this, this paper proposes a DDS message structure integrity verification method. To improve this, this paper proposes a DDS message structure integrity verification method using a hash tree. To verify the applicability of the proposed method to Naval CMS, the message integrity verification rate of the proposed method was measured, and the integrity verification method was applied to CMS and the initialization time of the existing combat management system was compared and the hash tree generation time of the message structures was measured to understand the effect on the operation and development process of CMS. Through this test, It was confirmed that the message structure verification method for system stability proposed in this paper can be applied to the Naval CMS.

While the future warfare is expected to be appeared as network-centric, effect-based, and coordinated cooperative, most current M&S systems reflect only the unit behaviors and interactions of each weapon system. There are limitations to analyze the behaviors of managing weapons cooperatively and sharing the situational awareness over the networks of distributed sensors, C2, and shooters using them. Therefore, we introduce the new design of the networkcentric warfare modeling system using the agent-based modeling and simulation approach. We have developed a system for engagement-level warfare models and tested with multi-platform battleship warfare. In this paper, we propose the method to design battle agents, environments, and networks for network centric warfare modeling.

Modeling and Simulation(M&S) technology has been widely used to solve constraints such as time, space, safety, and cost when we implement the same development and test environments as real warfare environments to develop, test, and evaluate weapon systems for the last several decades. The integration and test environments employed for development and test & evaluation are required to provide Live Virtual Construction(LVC) simulation environments for carrying out requirement analysis, design, integration, test and verification. Additionally, they are needed to provide computing environments which are possible to reconfigure computing resources and software components easily according to test configuration changes, and to run legacy software components independently on specific hardware and software environments. In this paper, an Integration Test and Simulation for Engagement Control(ITSEC) bed using a bare-metal virtualization mechanism is proposed to meet the above test and simulation requirements, and it is applied and implemented for an air missile defense system. The engagement simulation experiment results conducted on air and missile defense environments demonstrate that the proposed bed is a sufficiently cost-effective and feasible solution to reconfigure and expand application software and computing resources in accordance with various integration and test environments.
As the increasing demand for high-quality software, there is huge requiring for quality certification of international standards, industrial functional safety (IEC 61508), automotive (ISO 26262), embedded software guidelines for weapon systems, etc., in the industry. Software companies are very difficult to systematically acquire the quality certification in terms of cost and manpower of Startup, venture small-sized companies. For their companies one test case automatic generation is considered as a core technique to evaluate or improve software quality. This paper proposes a test case automatic generation method based on the design decision table for system and software design verification. We apply the proposed method with OMG's standard techniques of metamodel and model transformation for automatically generating test cases. To do this, we design the metamodels of design decision table (Model) and test case document (Text) and define model transformation to automatically generate test cases, which will expect to easily work MC/DC coverage.

In the era of Fourth Industrial Revolution, secure networking technology is playing an essential role in the defense weapon systems. Encryption technology is used for information security. The safety of cryptographic technology, according to Kerchoff's principles, is based on secure key management of cryptographic technology, not on cryptographic algorithms. However, traditional centralized key management is one of the problematic issues in battlefield environments since the frequent movement of the forces and the time-varying quality of tactical networks. Alternatively, the system resources of each node used in the IoBT(Internet of Battlefield Things) environment are limited in size, capacity, and performance, so a lightweight key management system with less computation and complexity is needed than a conventional key management algorithm. This paper proposes a novel key escrow scheme in a lightweight manner for the IoBT environment. The safety and performance of the proposed technique are verified through numerical analysis and simulations.

With the rapid advancement and sophistication of defense weapon systems, the government, military, and the defense industry have conducted various innovative attempts to improve the efficiency of post-logistics support(PLS). The Ministry of Defense has mandated RAM-C(Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability-Cost) analysis as a requirement according to revised Total Life Cycle System Management Code of Practice in May 2022. Especially, for the project budget forecast of new PBL(Performance Based Logistics) business contacts, RAM-C is recognized as an obligatory factor. However, relevant entities have not officially provided guidelines or manuals for RAM-C analysis, and each defense contractor conducts RAM-C analysis with different standards and methods to win PBL-related business contract. Hence, this study aims to contribute to the generalization of the analysis procedure by presenting a cost analysis case based on RAM-C for the supply of military depot maintenance PBL project. This study presents formulas and procedures to determine requirements of military depot maintenance PBL project for repair parts supply. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis was conducted to find the optimal cost/utilization ratio. During the process, a correlation was found between supply delay and total cost of ownership as well as between cost variability and utilization rate. The analysis results are expected to provide an important basis for the conceptualization of the cost analysis for the supply of military depot maintenance PBL project and are capable of proposing the optimal utilization rate in relation to cost.

The future battlefield is expected to be very different from what it is today because of the development of new technologies. In particular, it becomes difficult to predict the war's outcome as AI and robots, whose performance is improved, participate in the battlefield. Accordingly, major countries including the US and China regard AI as the key technology and game changer that changing national competitiveness and future wars. Therefore, they are concentrating their efforts at the national level to occupy advance related technologies and to develop AI weapon systems. For this reason, countries are preparing strategies and policies to defense AI, and are actively expanding infrastructure, such as establishing organizations. In Korea, Defense AI is also being promoted. But, it suffers from a lack of governance that manages and controls integrally. Nevertheless, a significant consensus is forming on the necessity of establishing a defense AI center. In this study, we analyzed the status of defense AI promotion in major foreign countries such as the US, UK, and Australia, and suggested some implications for the establishment of defense AI policies.

Safety of reactive systems is one of the most important research areas in the field of weapon development. A NoGo response or at least a low-order explosion should be ensured to prevent unexpected accidents when the reactive system is impacted by high-velocity projectile. We investigated the shock-induced detonation of cased reactive systems subject to a normal projectile impact to the cylindrical surface based on two-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations using the I&G chemical rate law. Two types of energetic materials, namely LX-17 and AP-based solid propellant, were considered to compare the dynamic responses of the reactive system when subjected to the threshold impact velocity. It was found that shock-to-detonation transition phenomena occurred in the cased LX-17, whereas no full reaction occurred in the propellant.
