  • The Internet of Things plays a role as an important element technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution. This study is currently developing intelligent cars with IT technology, and is at a time when the development of intelligent cars is active and network data communication is possible. However, security solutions are needed as security is still at a weak stage, which can be threatened by intrusions into the network from outside. In this paper, in order to improve security of intelligent cars without causing security problems, we will apply blockchain technology, propose biometric authentication techniques using users' biometric information, and continue to study them in the future.

  • The fact that the end-user response time could become unacceptable in the 2-tier C/S system has been well known to C/S system developers. But inexperienced new developers who want to provide mobile solutions using PDA sometimes do not realize the ominous consequences of the 2-tier C/S systems. Except for the easy of development. the 2-tier C/S system has many weak points like in application deployment, security, scalability, application reuse, heterogeneous DBMS support, availability. and response time. This paper analyzes the response time in the 2-tier and 3-tier C/S systems through simulation. Although the problem space is confined to the 2 and 3 tiers, the result could be equally applied to any multi-tier systems.

  • Removal of Cu(II), Cr(III) and Pb(II) ions from aqueous solutions using the adsorption process on the loesses has been investigated. Variations of contact time, pH, adsorption isotherms and selectivity of coexisting ions were experimental parameters. pH of KJ and YIK samples diluted to 1% solution, was rearly the same with each value of pH 5.58 and 5.49, and both samples showed weak acidic properties. From chemical analysis, both samples contain remarkably different amounts of ${SiO}_{2}$, ${Al}_{2}O_{3}$ and ${Fe}_{2}O_{3}$. From XRD measurement, quartz was mainly observed in both samples. Kaolinite was also observed, also in both samples, but Feldspar was only observed in KJ sample. Adsorption of metal ions on the loesses were reached at equilibrium by shaking for about 30min. The adsorption of Cr(III) ion was higher than that of Cu(II) oand Pb(II) ions. The order of amount adsorbed among the investigated ions was Cr(III)>Pb(II)>Cu(II). In acidic solution, the adsorptivity of loesses was increased as pH increased. The adsorption of Cr(III) ion on the loesses were fitted to the Freundlich isotherms. Freundlich constants(1/n) of KJ and YIK loesses were 0.54 and 0.55, respectively.

  • The numerical simulation of dam break problem suffers from several challenges in terms of accuracy, stability, and versatility of the simulation algorithm since the water flow is generally discontinuous and presents abrupt variations. Thus, to obtain stable and accurate solutions, flow models for this purpose require numerical schemes provided with shock-capturing properties, and with the ability to work with flexible two-dimensional meshes. In this context, SU/PG method(Hughes and Brooks, 1979) is excellent candidate for the solution of the dam break problem. The weak formulation of the equations and the discontinuous polynomial basis lead to an accurate representation of bore waves(shocks). Furthermore, the discretization of the domain in finite elements is extremely effective in modeling complex geometries. In this study, a finite element model based on the SU/PG scheme is developed to solve shallow water equations and the model is applied to dam break problem. It is found that the present model accurately captures the bore wave that propagates downstream while spreading laterally and the depression wave that moves upstream. Furthermore, the propagation and formation of water surface profile compared favorably with those obtained by the previously published results.

  • The tailoring optimization technique recently developed by the author for improving structural response and energy absorption of composites is extended to sandwich shells using a previously developed zig-zag shell model with hierarchic representation of displacements. The in-plane variation of the stiffness properties of plies and the through-the thickness variation of the core properties are determined solving the Euler-Lagrange equations of an extremal problem in which the strain energy due to out-of-plane strains and stresses is minimised, while that due to their in-plane counterparts is maximised. In this way, the energy stored by unwanted out-of-plane modes involving weak properties is transferred to acceptable in-plane modes. As shown by the numerical applications, the critical interlaminar stress concentrations at the interfaces with the core are consistently reduced without any bending stiffness loss and the strength to debonding of faces from the core is improved. The structural model was recently developed by the author to accurately describe strain energy and interlaminar stresses from the constitutive equations. It a priori fulfills the displacement and stress contact conditions at the interfaces, considers a second order expansion of Lame's coefficients and a hierarchic representation that adapts to the variation of solutions. Its functional d.o.f. are the traditional mid-plane displacements and the shear rotations, so refinement implies no increase of the number of functional d.o.f. Sandwich shells are represented as multilayered shells made of layers with different thickness and material properties, the core being treated as a thick intermediate layer.

  • The equilibrium constant of a chemical reaction is related to the standard Gibbs free energy change. Since equilibrium constant is defined as the ratio of the activities of the chemical species, it is necessary to consider the non-ideal behavior of the solutes as ionic strength of the solution increases. In this paper, the derivation of Debye-$H{\ddot{u}}ckel$ limiting law and its modification by which the activity coefficient of an ion can be calculated was explained. Moreover, the method to obtain the activity coefficient of an ion from the experimentally determined mean activity coefficients of an electrolyte was explained.

  • It is usual that underground structures are constructed within multi-layered medium. In this paper, an efficient numerical model ling of multi-layered structural systems is studied using coupled analysis of finite elements and boundary elements. The finite elements are applied to the area in which the material nonlinearity is dominated, and the boundary elements are applied to the far field area where the nonlinearity is relatively weak. In the boundary element model 1 ins of the multi-layered medium, fundamental solutions are restricted. Thus, methods which can utilize existing Kelvin and Melan solution are sought for the interior multi-layered domain problem and semi infinite domain problem. Interior domain problem which has piecewise homogeneous layers is analyzed using boundary elements with Kelvin solution; by discretizing each homogeneous subregion and applying compatibility and equilibrium conditions between interfaces. Semi-infinite domain problem is analyzed using boundary elements with Melan solution, by superposing unit stiffness matrices which are obtained for each layer by enemy method. Each methodology is verified by comparing its results which the results from the finite element analysis and it is concluded that coupled analysis using boundary elements and finite elements can be reasonable and efficient if the superposition technique is applied for the multi-layered semi-infinite domain problems.

  • The purpose of this study is to solve the problems of radio frequency bandwidth frequency depletion, confusion possibilities, and security that are in current wireless communications systems, and to confirm the possibility of applying those solutions for the next generation network. To solve the problems of the current wireless communications system, a visible light communications system for power line communication (PLC) via 8-bit microcontroller is created and the capacity is analyzed. The exclusive PLC chip APLC-485MA, an 8-bit ATmega16 microcontroller, high brightness 5pi light emitting diodes (LEDs), and the LLS08-A1 visible light-receiving sensor were used for the transmitter and receiver. The performance was analyzed using a designed program and an oscilloscope. The voltage change was measured as a function of distance from 10-50 cm. Blue LEDs showed the best performance among the measured LED types, with 0.47 V of voltage loss, but for a distance over 50 cm, precise data was not easy to obtain due to the weak light. To overcome these types of problems, specific values such as the changing conditions and efficiency value relevant to the light emitting parts and the visible light-receiving sensor should be calculated, and continuous study and improvements should also be realized for better communication conditions.

  • Turbulent jet in a crossflow, issuing from a row of holes on a convex surface of 90 .deg. bend duct, is predicted by a 3-dimensional numerical method. The Cartesian coordinate system in adopted in upstream and downstream tangents and the cylindrical polar coordinate system in curved region. The Reynolds stresses and heat fluxes are obtained from a standard k-e model in the core region and van Driest model in the vicinity of the wall. The governing equations are discretized by a finite volume method and solutions are obtained by a locally elliptic calculation procedure. Pressure and convective terms are treated by SIMPLE algorithm and hybrid scheme respectively. A vortex initially induced by the injected jet has been built up due to the interaction with the secondary flow caused by pressure gradient and centrifugal force. The vortex structure has a strong influence on the wall cooling effectiveness. Another vortex like horseshoe is formed in the vicinity of the injection hole and its strength is getting weak as it moves downward.

  • Nowadays, many tunnels have been commissioned for several decades, which require effective inspection methods to assess their health conditions. The ambient vibration test has been widely adopted for the damage identification of concrete structures. In this study, the vibration characters of tunnel lining shells built with forepoling method was analyzed based on the analytical solutions of the Donnell-Mushtari shell theory. The broken rock, foreploing, rock-concrete contacts between rock mass and concrete lining, was represented by elastic boundaries with normal and shear stiffness. The stiffness of weak contacts has significant effects on the natural frequency of tunnel lining. Numerical simulations were also carried out to compare with the results of the analytical methods, showing that even though the low nature frequency is difficult to distinguish, the presented approach is convenient, effective and accurate to estimate the natural frequency of tunnel linings. Influences of the void, the lining thickness and the concrete type on natural frequencies were evaluated.
