  • We have investigated the $H_2$ adsorption structures and binding energies of the metal (M)-doped (M = Li, Na, K, Mg, and Al) silicon complexes, $M-Si_{19}H_{11}$ and $M-Si_{24}H_{12}$, using density functional calculations. Alkali metals are preferred as doping elements because the Mg-Si and Al-$H_2$ interactions are weak. The maximum numbers of $H_2$ molecules that can be adsorbed are four and five for M=Li and K, respectively. We propose that the K-decorated silicon material might be an effective hydrogen storage material with high hydrogen capacity and high reversibility.

  • Zeolite is a porous highly interactive matrix. Zeolitic cations help to generate triplets from molecules that possess poor intersystem crossing efficiency. Certain zeolites act as electron acceptors and thus can spontaneously generate radical cations. Zeolites also act as proton donors and thus yield carbocations without any additional reagents. These reactive species, radical cations and carbocations, have long lifetime within a zeolite and thus lend themselves to be handled as ‘regular’ chemicals. Internal structure of zeolites is studded with cations, the counter-ions of the anionic framework. The internal constrained structure and the cations serve as handles for chemists to control the behavior of guest molecules included within zeolites.

  • Molybdenum disulfide ($MoS_2$), which has 0.65 nm-thick atomic layer, can be easily separated layer by layer due to weak van der Waals interactions in out-of-plane direction. ($MoS_2$), has a good potential in nanoelectronics, because it has high electrical mobility and On/Off ratio. Its band gap energy changes from indirect to direct band gap energy as it goes from bulk to monolayer. Therefore, atomically thin ($MoS_2$), is widely studied in academic and engineering fields. Here, we introduce the research of atomically thin $MoS_2$ and discuss the research directions.

  • A phase-locked Channel-Substrate-Planar(CSP) laser arrays is described. Arrays of emitters with weak coupling are operated in a set of discrete modes determined by the number and spacing of the emitters. The interactions between emitters lead to a splitting of the wave-length and gain which are calculated from the coupling strength. Phase-locked arrays has exhibited to CW output-power as high as 80 m W and the highest order mode will have preferred oscillation. A strong hole burning is occurred at p=30m W. The most stable lasing mode is occurred at element spacing S=3.5\ulcornerm and there is no coupling at S>7 \ulcornerm.

  • Cosmological shock waves result from supersonic flow motions induced by hierarchical clustering during the large-scale structure formation in the Universe. Suprathermal particles are known to be produced via plasma interactions at collisionless shocks in tenuous plasmas and they can be further accelerated to become cosmic rays (CRs) via diffusive shock acceleration (DSA). The presence of CR electrons has been inferred from observations of diffuse radio halos and relics in some merging galaxy clusters. We have calculated the emissions from CR electrons accelerated at weak planar shocks, using time-dependent DSA simulations that include energy losses via synchrotron emission and Inverse Compton scattering. The simulated nonthermal emission are used to model the synchrotron emission from several observed radio relics.

  • Neutrinos play an important role in astronomy and therefore they need to be observed as well as other astronomical messengers. The first observation of astronomical neutrinos is from the SN1987a by the Kamiokande neutrino telescope in Japan. Unlike other astronomical messengers neutrinos can cover all energy range of astronomical phenomena due to their weak interactions and neutrality. Multi messenger astronomy including optical, neutrino, and cosmic ray observations, provides more information on astronomical phenomena and thus such collaborational works are ongoing worldwide. A future Korean neutrino telescope consisting of huge (260 kiloton) water Cherenkov detector under a mountain was proposed in 2016 and the sensitivity studies on various topics are in progress with international collaborators. In this talk I will introduce the future Korean neutrino telescope and its science as well as the potential candidate sites in Korea. We invite all of you to work together for the future Korean neutrino telescope that will operate more than 30 years.

  • When a vortex diffracts upon encountering a vortex, many strong and weak waves are produced in the course of interaction. They are the cause of shock wave attenuation and noise production. This phenomenon is fundamental to understanding the more complex supersonic turbulent Jet noise. In this paper we have reviewed the research on shock-vortex interaction we have carried on last seven years. We have computationally investigated the parameter effect. When a shock is strong, shock diffraction pattern becomes complex since the slip lines from the triple points on Mach stem curl into the vortex, causing an entropy layer. When the vortex is unstable, vortexlets are brought about each of which make shock diffraction of a reduced intensity. Strong vortex produces quadrupole noise as it impinges into a vortex. Elementary interaction models such as shock splitting, shock reflection, and shock penetration are presented based on shock tube experiment. These models are also verified by computational approach. They easily explain production and propagation of the aforementioned quadrupole noise, Diverging acoustics are explained in terms of shock-vortexlet interactions for which a computational model Is constructed.

  • Magnetic resonance imaging with its superior soft tissue contrast resolution and absence of beam hardening artifacts, combined with its ability to perform multiplanar imaging, is now effective tool in diagnostic imagings. Magnetic resonance is primarily a phenomenon that involves atomic nuclei. It provides totally new clinical informations with no known hazards through the use of very weak interactions with endogenous stable magnetic atomic nuclei. This article briefly summarizes the basic mechanism of generation and detection of the signals and general sorts of tissue properties which can influence the signals and thereby give rise to tissue contrast. It also describes how the machine-operating parameters can be used to manipulate the tissue contrast observed in the image.
