  • Face recognition of face images is an active subject in the area of computer pattern recognition, which has a wide range of potential. Automatic extraction of face image of the feature points is an important step during automatic face recognition. Whether correctly extract the facial feature has a direct influence to the face recognition. In this paper, a new method of facial feature extraction based on Discrete Wavelet Transform is proposed. Firstly, get the face image by using PC Camera. Secondly, decompose the face image using discrete wavelet transform. Finally, we use the horizontal direction, vertical direction projection method to extract the features of human face. According to the results of the features of human face, we can achieve face recognition. The result show that this method could extract feature points of human face quickly and accurately. This system not only can detect the face feature points with great accuracy, but also more robust than the tradition method to locate facial feature image.

  • The issues of preventive and condition-based maintenance, online monitoring, system fault detection, diagnosis, and prognosis are of increasing importance. This study introduces a technique to detect and identify faults in induction motors. Stator currents were measured and stored by time domain. The time domain is not suitable for representing current signals, so wavelet transform is used to convert the signal; onto frequency domain. The raw signals can not show the significant feature, therefore difference values are applied. The difference values were transformed by wavelet transform and the features are extracted from the transformed signals. The dynamic time warping method was used to identify the four fault types. This study describes the results of detecting fault using wavelet analysis.

  • This paper proposes a condition classification system using wavelet transform, feature evaluation and artificial neural networks to detect faulty products on the production line of reciprocating compressors for refrigerators. The stationary features of vibration signals are extracted from statistical cumulants of the discrete wavelet coefficients and root mean square values of band-pass frequencies. The neural networks are trained by the sample data, including healthy or faulty compressors. Based on training, the proposed system can be used on the automatic mass production line to classify product quality instead of people inspection. The validity of this system is demonstrated by the on-site test at LG Electronics, Inc. for reciprocating compressors. According to different products, this system after some modification may be useful to increase productivity in different types of production lines.

  • In this paper, we proposed a ventricular fibrillation detection algorithm based on wavelet transform and artificial neural network. we selected RR intervals, the 6th and 7th wavelet coefficients(D6, D7) as features for classifying ventricular fibrillation. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we compared the result of the proposed algorithm with that of fuzzy inference and fuzzy-neural network. MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database, Creighton University Ventricular Tachyarrhythmia database and MIH-BIH Malignant Ventricular Arrhythmia database were used as test and learning data. Among the algorithms, the proposed algorithm showed that the classification rate of normal and abnormal beat was sensitivity(%) of 96.10 and predictive positive value(%) of 99.07, and that of ventricular fibrillation was sensitivity(%) of 99.45. Finally. the proposed algorithm showed good performance compared to two other methods.

  • Detection of exit burr is very important in manufacturing automation. In this paper, acoustic emission(AE) was used to detect the burr formation during milling. By using wavelet transformation, AE data was compressed without unnecessary details. Then the transformed data were used as selected features (inputs) of a back-propagation artificial neural net. In order to validate the proposed scheme, the wavelet based ANN results were compared with cutting condition(cutting speed, feed, depth of cut, etc.) based ANN results.

  • The wavelet analysis technique is applied in the spectral domain to efficiently represent the multi-scale features of the impedance matrices. In this scheme, the 2-D quadtree decomposition (applying the wavelet transform to only the part of the matrix) method often used in image processing area is applied for a sparse moment matrix. CG(Conjugate-Gradient) method is also applied for saving memory and computation time of wavelet transformed moment matrix. Numerical examples show that for rectangular cylinder case the non-zero elements of the transformed moment matrix grows only as O($N^{1.6}$).

  • Many hydroclimatic time series are marked by interannual and longer quasi-period features that are associated with narrow band oscillatory climate modes. A time series modeling approach that directly considers such structures is developed and presented. The essence of the approach is to first develop a wavelet decomposition of the time series that retains only the statistically significant wavelet components, and to then model each such component and the residual time series as univariate autoregressive processes. The efficacy of this approach is demonstrated through the simulation of observed and paleo reconstructions of climate indices related to ENSO and AMO, tree ring and rainfall time series. Long ensemble simulations that preserve the spectral attributes of the time series in each ensemble member can be generated. The usual low order statistics are preserved by the proposed model, and its long memory performance is superior to the direction application of an autoregressive model.

  • This paper proposes a robot visual servo approach based on image appearance and a wavelet function neural network. The inputs of the wavelet neural network are changes of image features or the elements of image appearance vector, and the outputs are changes of robot joint angles. Image appearance vector is calculated by using eigen subspace transform algorithm. The proposed approach does not need a priori knowledge of the robot kinematics, hand-eye geometry and camera models. The experiment results on a real robot system show that the proposed method is practical and simple.

  • For shape invariant recognitin of korean characters iwth noise, an optical wavelet SDF filter is proposed To preserve the features of a reference image and inimize effects of a random noise in the inpt image wavelet transformed images with different dialation parameters are used. And to adapt to divese variations in the combinatorial form, eCP-SDF filter synthesis algorithm is used. The proposed optical wavelet SDF filter is the type of the matched filter so that it can use the structure of 4f optical correlation system. The computer simulation results show that the proposed filter is useful in the noisy input.

  • This study compares various transformation techniques for multifocus image fusion. Multi-focus image fusion is a procedure of merging multiple images captured at unalike focus distances to produce a single composite image with improved sharpness and clarity. In this research, the purpose is to compare different popular frequency domain approaches for multi-focus image fusion, such as Discrete Wavelet Transforms (DWT), Stationary Wavelet Transforms (SWT), DCT-based Laplacian Pyramid (DCT-LP), Discrete Cosine Harmonic Wavelet Transform (DC-HWT), and Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DT-CWT). The objective is to increase the understanding of these transformation techniques and how they can be utilized in conjunction with one another. The analysis will evaluate the 10 most crucial parameters and highlight the unique features of each method. The results will help determine which transformation technique is the best for multi-focus image fusion applications. Based on the visual and statistical analysis, it is suggested that the DCT-LP is the most appropriate technique, but the results also provide valuable insights into choosing the right approach.
