A developed code is applied to simulate relative motion of floating bodies in a side-by-side arrangement, including effects of a fender and a hawser. The developed code is based on the flux-difference splitting scheme for immiscible incompressible fluids and the hybrid Cartesian/immersed boundary method. To validate the developed code for free surface flows around deforming boundaries, the water wave generation is simulated, which is caused by bed movement. The computed wave profile and time histories of wave elevation are compared with other experimental and computational results. The effects of a fender and a hawser are modeled by asymmetric force acting on the floating bodies according to a relative displacement with the bounds, in which the fender and the hawser exert no force on the bodies. It has been observed that the floating body can be accelerated by a gap flow due to a phase difference caused by the free surface. Grid independency is established for the computed time history of the body velocity, based on three different size grids.
Recently, the Sub-Committee on SDC (Ship Design and Construction) of IMO have discussed actively the technical issues associated with the second-generation intact stability criteria of ships. Generally, second generation intact stability criteria refer to vulnerability five modes ship stability which occurs when the ship navigating in rough seas. As waves passes the ship, dynamic roll motion phenomenon will affect ship stability that may lead to capsizing. Multi-tiered approach for second generation of intact stability criteria of IMO instruments covers apply for all ships. Each ship is checked for vulnerability to pure loss of stability, parametric roll, and broaching/surf-riding phenomena using L1(level 1) vulnerability criteria. If a possible vulnerability is detected, then the L2(level 2) criteria is used, followed by direct stability assessment, if necessary. In this study, we propose a new method to verify the criteria of the surf-riding/broaching mode of small ships. In case, L1 vulnerability criteria is not satisfied based on the relatively simple calculation using the Froude number, we presented the calculation code for the L2 criteria considering the hydrodynamics in waves to perform the more complicated calculation. Then the vulnerability criteria were reviewed based on the data for a given ship. The value of C, which is the probability of the vulnerability criteria for surf-riding/broaching, was calculated. The criteria value C is considered in new approach method using the Froude-Krylov force and the diffraction force. The result shows lower values when considering both the Froude-rylov force and the diffraction force than with only the Froude-Krylov force was considered. This difference means that when dynamic roll motion of ship, more exact wave force needs considered for second generation intact stability criteria This result will contribute to basic ship design process according to the IMO Second-Generation Intact Stability Criteria.
In the present article, wave dispersion behavior of a temperature-dependent functionally graded (FG) nanobeam undergoing rotation subjected to thermal loading is investigated according to nonlocal strain gradient theory, in which the stress numerates for both nonlocal stress field and the strain gradient stress field. The small size effects are taken into account by using the nonlocal strain gradient theory which contains two scale parameters. Mori-Tanaka distribution model is considered to express the gradually variation of material properties across the thickness. The governing equations are derived as a function of axial force due to centrifugal stiffening and displacements by applying Hamilton's principle according to Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. By applying an analytical solution, the dispersion relations of rotating FG nanobeam are obtained by solving an eigenvalue problem. Obviously, numerical results indicate that various parameters such as angular velocity, gradient index, temperature change, wave number and nonlocality parameter have significant influences on the wave characteristics of rotating FG nanobeams. Hence, the results of this research can provide useful information for the next generation studies and accurate deigns of nanomachines including nanoscale molecular bearings and nanogears, etc.
This paper is concerned with the wave propagation behavior of rotating functionally graded temperature-dependent nanoscale beams subjected to thermal loading based on nonlocal strain gradient stress field. Uniform, linear and nonlinear temperature distributions across the thickness are investigated. Thermo-elastic properties of FG beam change gradually according to the Mori-Tanaka distribution model in the spatial coordinate. The nanobeam is modeled via a higher-order shear deformable refined beam theory which has a trigonometric shear stress function. The governing equations are derived by Hamilton's principle as a function of axial force due to centrifugal stiffening and displacement. By applying an analytical solution and solving an eigenvalue problem, the dispersion relations of rotating FG nanobeam are obtained. Numerical results illustrate that various parameters including temperature change, angular velocity, nonlocality parameter, wave number and gradient index have significant effect on the wave dispersion characteristics of the understudy nanobeam. The outcome of this study can provide beneficial information for the next generation researches and exact design of nano-machines including nanoscale molecular bearings and nanogears, etc.

This study used a water tank and wave maker to generate conditions similar to the real ocean environment. Given that the waves were properly generated in the water tank, a precise analysis indicated the quantitative value of the wave force acting on a body. A high-speed camera and wave-level gauge were used to measure the temporal wave motion and period. A series of artificial water waves were successfully generated using three different wave periods and amplitudes. Each of the waves captured by a high-speed camera was sinusoidal and did not maintain its shape properly without a wave absorber, but it was substantially improved and well shaped when the wave absorber was installed.

Due to the global warming and air pollution, interest in renewable energies has increased in recent years. In particular, the crisis of the depletion of fossil energy resources in the near future has accelerated the renewable energy technologies. Among the renewable energy resources, oceans covering almost three-fourths of earth's surface have an enormous amount of energy. For this reason, various approaches have been made to harness the tremendous energy potential. In order to achieve two purposes: to improve harbor water quality and to use wave energy, this study proposed a sea water exchange structure applying an Oscillating Water Column (OWC) wave generation system that utilizes the air flow velocity induced by the vertical motion of water column in the air chamber as a driving force of turbine. In particular, the airflow velocity in the air chamber was estimated from the time variations of water surface profile computed by using 3D-NIT model based on the 3-dimensional irregular numerical wave tank. The relationship of the frequency spectrums between the computed airflow velocities and the incident waves was analyzed. This study also discussed the characteristics of frequency spectrums in the air chamber according to the presence of the structure, wave deformations by the structure, and the power of the water and air flows were also investigated. It is found that the phase difference exists in the time series data of water level fluctuations and air flow in the air chamber and the air flow power is superior to the fluid flow power.

This paper presents a numerical study of the wave loads acting on offshore structures using a Cartesian-grid-based flow simulation method. Finite volume discretization with a volume-of-fluid (VOF) method is adopted to solve two-phase Navier-Stokes equations. Among the many variations of the VOF method, the CICSAM scheme is applied. The body boundary conditions are satisfied using a porosity function, and wave generation is carried out by using transient (wave or damping) zone approaches. In order to validate the present numerical method, three different basic offshore structures, including a sphere, Pinkster barge, and Wigley model, are numerically investigated. First, diffraction and radiation problems are solved using the present numerical method. The wave exciting and drift forces from the diffraction problems are compared with potential-based solutions. The added mass and wave damping forces from the radiation problems are also compared with the potential results. Next, the wave-induced motion responses of the structures are calculated and compared with the existing experimental data. The comparison results are fairly good, showing the validity of the present numerical method.
Recently, by the problems owing to utilization of fossil fuel, various green energies receive attention. Wind, the impetus for the wind power generation as one of the green energies, is observed higher quality value in the offshore than onshore. Also, the development of offshore wind turbines is in the spotlight as alternative to solve the problems of onshore wind farm such as securing sites, noise, and electromagnetic waves, and to get efficient wind energy. Therefore, the many researches on offshore wind energy have been carried out. As wind towers are advanced to ocean, offshore wind towers have been enlarged. Thus, stability is required to endure wind force and wave force. In this study, the external forces act on the foundation in multi-layered are calculated by p-y relation.
The linear compressor have been widely used for pressure wave generation in the Stirling cryocooler and Stirling type pulse tube cryocooler for tactical purpose. The linear compressor has small and compact structure, and long life due to having non-contact sealing mechanism. and the pressure drop through regenerator was ver important role in the motion of displacer in the expander of the Stirling cryocooler. In this study, the characteristic of the linear compressor and the pressure drop through regenerator in the expander was experimentally investigated. The results show the resonance of the compressor is very important to get maximum performance. and the gas spring force in the compression space of the compressor has effect on the characteristic of reonance. and the results show the pressure drop through regenerator is very small than operating pressure change.

To improve survivability of damaged ship, assessment of stability and structural safety, and behavior analysis in wave is required. Prediction of sinking time, damage stability and structural strength considering progressive flooding and dynamic force in wave is very important. To do it, a geometric model which can be express damaged ship is prepared. This paper described the geometric modeler for survivability assessment of damaged ship. The modeler is developed based on 3-D geometric modeling kernel, ACIS. The hull form and compartment definition is available fundamentally. And requirement for modeler contains data generation and interface for hydrostatic calculation, behavior analysis, and longitudinal strength analysis and so on. To easy access modeling system by conventional user such as crew, user interface is developing.
