Special purpose vessels such as drillship and ocean research vessels install the DPS(Dynamic Positioning System) to maintain the position and heading for long-time operation. This paper deals with the design parameters for the control theory and filter algorithms of DP system. for the environmental loadings wind forces, current forces and wave forces were considered. In order to estimate the low frequency motions without first-order wave motion, the Kalman filter was used and it was assumed that the first-order wave forces correspond to system noises and first-order wave motions are measurement noises. In this simulation, the length of research vessel is 65 meters and it has four thrusters to maintain the position. The ability of keeping position and heading was confirmed. For the calculation of thruster input the LQR and LOI control theory were adopted and the effects of gain were investigated.

A new conceptual wave rolling ball reducer was proposed and investigated. The main components of the reducer were a eccentric input shaft and bearings, followers with balls, a flange, and a outer ring with waved groove. Followers moved along the holes of the flange according to the rotation of the shaft. And the balls installed in tips of followers were rolled with the waved groove of outer ring. When the shaft was rotated as one revolution and the outer ring was fixed, the flange was rotated as one wave. The kinematic analysis of the reducer carried out. The forces of each components were estimated, and the main design parameters were investigated. The design program using Visual C++ and Auto Lisp to determine the design parameters and to generate the drawing sheet.

Fundamentals of electrodynamics of moving sources with constant velocity in an anisotripic plasma when the do magnetic field and the relative motion are oriented in arbitrary directions are presented. The well-known Minkowski's relations are generalized to accomodate anisotropic and dispersive media, and relativistic transformation formulae of constitutive parameters are derived and expanded into polynomials of the speed ratio \ulcornerto increase the utility of the formulae. The helmholtz wave equation of electromagnetic fields is generalized to the media charactrized by tensor parameters, and is solved in operator form. Also the solution of wave equation is expressed as a porcuct of the inverse of the wave operator matrix and the source function vector, and the inverse of the wave operator matrix is presented in an explicit form. The equations and formulae derived in this paper are all general, and can be reduced to known and proven results upon imposing the restriction called for by specific situations.
An Oscillating Water Column (OWC) is a relatively practical and convenient device that converts wave energy to a usable form, which is electricity. The OWC is kept inside a fixed truncated vertical cylinder, which is a hollow structure with one open end submerged in the water and with an air turbine at the top. This research adopts potential theory and Galerkin methods to solve the fluid motion inside the OWC. Using an air-water interaction model, OWC design for energy extraction from regular wave is also explored. The hydrodynamic coefficients of the scattering and radiation potentials are solved for using the Galerkin approximation. The numerical results for the free surface elevation have been verified by a series of experiments conducted in the University of New Orleans towing tank. The effect of varying geometric parameters on the response amplitude operator (RAO) of the OWC is studied and modification of the equation for evaluating the natural frequency of the OWC is made. Using the model of air-water interaction under certain wave parameters and OWC geometric parameters, a computer program is developed to calculate the energy output from the system.
The underlying goal of the present paper is to investigate soil and structural uncertainties on impedance functions and structural response of soil-shallow foundation-structure (SSFS) system using Monte Carlo simulations. The impedance functions of a rigid massless circular foundation resting on the surface of a random soil layer underlain by a homogeneous half-space are obtained using 1-D wave propagation in cones with reflection and refraction occurring at the layer-basement interface and free surface. Firstly, two distribution functions (lognormal and gamma) were used to generate random numbers of soil parameters (layer's thickness and shear wave velocity) for both horizontal and rocking modes of vibration with coefficients of variation ranging between 5 and 20%, for each distribution and each parameter. Secondly, the influence of uncertainties of soil parameters (layer's thickness, and shear wave velocity), as well as structural parameters (height of the superstructure, and radius of the foundation) on the response of the coupled system using lognormal distribution was investigated. This study illustrated that uncertainties on soil and structure properties, especially shear wave velocity and thickness of the layer, height of the structure and the foundation radius significantly affect the impedance functions, and in same time the response of the coupled system.
This paper proposes a method of separately determining three intrinsic mechanical parameters of an unknown object in the framework of ultrasound inverse scattering tomography. Those parameters are the speed of sound, density, and absorption whose values are given as the solution of an inhomogeneous Helmholtz wave equation. The separate reconstruction method is mathematically formulated, the integral equations are discretized using the sinc basis functions, and the Newton-Raphson method is adopted as a numerical solver in a measurement configuration where the object is insonified by an incident plane wave over 360˚ and the scattered field is measured by detectors arranged in a rectangular fashion around it. Two distinct frequencies are used to separate each parameter of three Gaussian objects that are either located at the same position or separately from each other. Computer simulation results show that the separate reconstruction method is able to separately reconstruct the three mechanical parameters. The absorption parameter turns out to be a little difficult to reconstruct as compared with the other two parameters.

A Monte-Carlo simulation method is proposed which can take uncertainties of scale and location parameters of Gumbel distribution into account straightforwardly in evaluating significant design wave heights with respect to return periods. The uncertainties of design wave heights may directly depend on the amounts of uncertainties of scale parameter and those distributions may be followed by Gumbel distribution. In case of that the expected values of maximum significant wave height during lifetime of structures are considered to be the design wave heights, more uncertainties are happened than in those evaluated according to return periods with encounter probability concepts. In addition, reliability analyses on the armor units are carried out to investigate into the effects of the uncertainties of design wave heights on the probability of failure. The failure probabilities of armor units to 5% damage level for 50 return periods are evaluated and compared according to the methods of taking uncertainties of design wave heights into account. It is found that the probabilities of failure may be distributed into wide ranges of bounds when the uncertainties of design wave heights are assumed to be same as those of annual maximum significant wave heights.

Oscillating wave amplitude in a bottom-mounted OWC chamber designed for wave energy converter is investigated by applying characteristic wave conditions in Korean coastal water. The effects of shape parameters of OWC chamber in a view of wave energy absorbing capability are analyzed. Both experimental and numerical approaches are adopted and their results are compared to optimize the shape parameters which can result in a maximum power production under given wave distribution. The experiment was carried out in a wave flume under 2-D assumption of OWC chamber. The numerical scheme employed a hybrid Green integral equation which adopts the Rankine Green function inside chamber to take account of fluctuating air pressure, while it uses the Kelvin Green function in outer domain. Air duct diameter, chamber width, and submerged depths of front skirt and back wall of chamber changes the magnitude and peak frequency of wave absorption significantly.

In this work, we discuss simulation of surface acoustic wave device using Comsol Multiphysics. The structure SAW device based on piezoelectric thin film aluminum-nitride (AlN) on silicon was simulated. Some parameters of SAW device such as surface velocity, displacement of piezoelectric thin film were evaluated by software. Many modes and shapes of wave are also discussed in this paper. For evaluation physical parameters of AlN piezoelectric layer, the SAW resonator was modeled and simulation results were also compared with experiment results. we simulated arid evaluated the surface Rayleigh wave of AlN thin film on silicon substrate. Results simulation and experiment showed the surface velocity of AlN thin film was about 5200 m/s and shape of surface wave was also displayed. This paper has also proposed as method to study SAW characteristic of piezoelectric thin film and found out measurement values accurately of film such as stiffness matrix, piezoelectric matrix. These values are very important in calculation and design SAW device or MEMS device based on AlN piezoelectric layer.

We have researched on controlling an electron temperature and a plasma collision frequency to study the effect of collisions on helicon plasmas. So, we have designed and constructed an electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) heating system in the helicon device as an auxiliary heating source. Since then, we have tried to optimize experimental designs such as a magnetic field configuration for ECR heating and 2.45GHz microwave launching system for its power transfer to the plasma effectively, and have characterized plasma parameters using a Langmuir probe. For improving an efficiency of the ECR heating with R-wave in the helicon plasma, we would understand an effect of R-wave propagation with ECR heating in the helicon plasma, because the efficiency of ECR heating with R-wave depends on some factors such as electron temperature, electron density, and magnetic field gradient. Firstly, we calculate the effect of R-wave propagation into the ECR zone in the plasma with those factors. We modify the magnetic field configuration and this system for the effective ECR heating in the plasma. Finally, after optimizing this system, the plasma parameters such as electron temperature and electron density are characterized by a RF compensated Langmuir probe.
