  • We report on the design of the secondary and the tertiary mirrors used in lightweight assemblies made entirely of silicon carbide (SiC). The essential design points are weight reduction within the acceptable deformation of the mirror surface by gravity release, temperature change, and vibration during or after space launch. To find a design that achieves the target requirements, we established finite element models for various candidate designs and subjected each one to wave front error analyses along gravity directions and in operation temperatures. We also calculated the natural frequencies of the candidate assemblies. Our study suggested that a triangular cell with bipod flexure support can satisfy the target weight within the requirements.

  • A Fizeau interferometer without beam splitter was constructed. Single-mode optical fiber was used as a spherical wave source and the face of fiber end was polished and coated to be a reflecting surface. The reflecting surface was angled so that interference fringe could be detected by CCD camera. Beam splitter in front of a spherical wave source could distort the wave front and that was one of the component error sources. With the proposed configuration there was no need to place beam splitter in the system. Improvement of phase measuring accuracy was evaluated quantitatively by comparing the result of this setup with that of a conventional Fizeau interferometer. Wave front of the angled end-face optical fiber source was also measured to verify its sphericity by PS/PDI (Phase Shifting/Point Diffraction Interferometer). The principle of this technique was presented and the experimental results and its applications were discussed. ussed.

  • Methylene blue-sensitized photopolymerizable material based on acrylamide is investigated with two-wave energy coupling experiments. Differently from other studies, self-diffraction oscillations are observed and the grating phase is determined without applying external electric fields, moving nonlinear materials, and phase shifting one of two writing beams. The phase grating showed a phase shift of $\pm$50$^{\circ}$ with respect to the intensity grating. Modified Kogelnik's coupled wave equation considering the mixed gratings of phase and absorption gratings and nonzero spatial phase shifts of the gratings with respect to the intensity interference patterns formed during the two-wave energy coupling is discussed in detail to understand these phenomenon.

  • Terahertz (THz) wave generation by periodically poled $BaTiO_3$ (PPBT) with a quasi-phase-matching (QPM) scheme based on cascaded difference-frequency generation (DFG) is theoretically analyzed. The cascaded DFG processes comprise cascaded Stokes and anti-Stokes processes. The calculated results indicate that the cascaded Stokes processes are stronger than the cascaded anti-Stokes processes. Compared to a noncascaded Stokes process, THz intensities from $20^{th}$-order cascaded Stokes processes increase by a factor of 30. THz waves with a maximum intensity of $0.37MW/mm^2$ can be generated by $20^{th}$-order cascaded DFG processes when the optical intensity is $10MW/mm^2$, corresponding to a quantum conversion efficiency of 1033%. The high quantum conversion efficiency of 1033% exceeds the Manley-Rowe limit, which indicates that PPBT is an excellent crystal for THz wave generation via cascaded DFG.

  • Based on calculations using the macroscopic Maxwell's equations with mesoscopic boundary conditions, light absorption by a layered metal-insulator-metal (MIM) metamaterial system embedded in three different environments is investigated. Increasing the top metal thickness shifts the broad absorption band to lower dielectric-constant regions and longer wavelengths, for either TM or TE waves. Boosting the dielectric-layer thickness redshifts the broadband absorption to regions of larger dielectric constant. In air, for the dielectric-constant range of 0.86-3.40, the absorption of the system exceeds 98% across 680-1,033 nm. In seawater with optimized dielectric constant, ≥94% light absorption over 400-1,200 nm can be achieved; particularly in the wavelength range of 480-960 nm and dielectric-constant range of 0.82-3.50, the absorption is greater than 98%. In an environment with even higher refractive index (1.74), ≥98% light absorption over 400-1,200 nm can be achieved, giving better performance. The influence of angle of incidence on light absorption of the MIM system is also analyzed, and the angle tolerance for ≥90% broadband absorption of a TM wave is up to 40° in an environment with large refractive index. While the incident-angle dependence of the absorption of a TE wave is nearly the same for different circumstances, the situation is different for a TM wave.

  • We investigated a LiNbO$_3$ based integrated-optic polarization controller with the Ti-indiffused waveguide along the z-axis utilizing the electro-optic effect. The device consists of a first quarter-wave (λ / 4) followed by a half-wave (λ / 2) and a second quarter-wave (λ / 4) wave-plate. We analyzed the amount of phase change and the transformation of the polarized mode as a function of the combination of wave-plates and of their applied voltages. The operation has been systematically measured utilizing a polarimeter and Poincare sphere. We confirmed that the fabricated device controls the transformations from any arbitrary input state of polarization (SOP) into any general output SOP.

  • Stimulated polariton scattering (SPS) from the $A_1$ transverse optical (TO) modes of $BaTiO_3$ bulk crystal generating a terahertz (THz) wave with the noncollinear phase-matching (NPM) condition is theoretically investigated. To our best knowledge, this is the first report on THz wave generation from $BaTiO_3$ bulk crystal via SPS. Phase-matching (PM) characteristics in the NPM configuration are analyzed. Effective parametric gain lengths for the Stokes and THz waves in the NPM configuration are calculated. The effective parametric gain coefficient and absorption coefficient of the THz wave in $BaTiO_3$ are theoretically simulated. The THz phonon flux densities generated via SPS in $BaTiO_3$ are theoretically calculated by solving the coupled wave equations under the NPM condition. The PM characteristics and THz-wave parametric gain characteristics in $BaTiO_3$ are compared to those in $MgO:LiNbO_3$. The results of the analysis indicate that $BaTiO_3$ is an attractive optical crystal for efficient THz wave generation via SPS.

  • The aim of the study was performed the wave analysis of P-VEP on the development of visual function using Netspeg lens in monocular of refraction error subjects. The P-VEP of three channels were recorded by the Bausch Lomb system. Ten adults (five males, five females, mean=22 years, range=19 to 23) subjects were recorded. The subjects were researched the history including the systemic health, medication, genetics, allergy, ocular disease, and so on. Visual acuity and refraction test were performed for each subject with mono vision by using the Netspeg lens. Also subjects viewed the P-VEP stimulus with mono vision through the corrected visual acuity with Netspeg lens during VEP test. The results of study suggest that the mono vision using Netspeg lens is better than with non-Netspeg lens on the visual acuity and image symptom. On the other hand, the analysis of P-VEP suggest that the amplitude of wave is larger when the eye using Netspeg lens receives the P-VEP stimulus compared with the non Netspeg lens. Also, on the wave style of P-VEP, the eye of Netspeg lens was more stable compared with the naked eye. However, on latency period of P-VEP, the eye of non Netspeg lens was more longer than the eye of Netspeg lens. But, on the other hand, the right and left eye have similar results. In conclusion, this study indicated that the visual acuity and visual function of eye of Netspeg lens used have a better than the eye of non-Netspeg lens in Mono Vision.
