In this paper, we propose effective boundary line extraction algorithm for moving objects by matching error image and moving vectors, and fast tracking algorithm for moving object by partial boundary lines. We extracted boundary line for moving object by generating seeds with probability distribution function based on Watershed algorithm, and by extracting boundary line for moving objects through extending seeds, and then by using moving vectors. We processed tracking algorithm for moving object by using a part of boundary lines as features. We set up a part of every-direction boundary line for moving object as the initial feature vectors for moving objects. Then, we tracked moving object within current frames by using feature vector for the previous frames. As the result of the simulation for tracking moving object on the real images, we found that tracking processing of the proposed algorithm was simple due to tracking boundary line only for moving object as a feature, in contrast to the traditional tracking algorithm for active contour line that have varying processing cost with the length of boundary line. The operations was reduced about 39% as contrasted with the full search BMA. Tracking error was less than 4 pixel when the feature vector was $(15\times{5)}$ through the information of every-direction boundary line. The proposed algorithm just needed 200 times of search operation.

In this study, parameters of long and short term runoff model were optimized using genetic algorithm as a basic research for integrated water management in a watershed. In case of Korea where drought and flood occurr frequently, the integrated water management is necessary to minimize possible damage of drought and flood. Modified TANK model was optimized as a long term runoff model and storage-function model was optimized as a short term runoff model. Besides distinguished parameters were applied to modified TANK model for supplementing defect that the model estimates less runoff in the storm period. As a result of application, simulated long and short term runoff results showed 7% and 5% improvement compared with before optimized on the average. In case of modified TANK model using distinguished parameters, the simulated runoff after optimized showed more interrelationship than before optimized. Therefore, modified TANK model can be applied for the long term water balance as an integrated water management in a watershed. In case of storage-function model, simulated runoff in the storm period showed high interrelationship with observed one. These optimized models can be applied for the runoff analysis of watershed.
In this study, an image processing method for the measurement of two-phase bubbly flow is developed. Shadowgraphy images obtained by high-speed camera are used for analysis. Some bubbles are generated as single unit and others are overlapped or clustered. Single bubbles can be easily analyzed using parameters such as bubble shape, centroid, and area. But overlapped bubbles are difficult to transform clustered bubbles into segmented bubbles. Several approaches were proposed for the bubble segmentation such as Hough transform, connection point method and watershed. These methods are not enough for bubble segmentation. In order to obtain the size distribution of bubbles, we present a method of splitting overlapping bubbles using watershed and approximating them to ellipse. There is only 5% error difference between manual and automatic analysis. Furthermore, the error can be reduced down to 1.2% when a correction factor is used. The ellipse fitting algorithm developed in this study can be used to measure bubble parameters accurately by reflecting the shape of the bubbles.
A feasibility modeling for potential hydroelectric dam site selection was suggested using 1 sec ASTGTM (ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model) and Terra/Aqua MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) derived land use (MCD12Q1) data. The modeling includes DEM pre-processing of peak, sink, and flat, river network generation, watershed delineation and segmentation, terrain analysis of stream cross section and reservoir storage, and estimation of submerged area for compensation. The modeling algorithms were developed using Python and as an open source GIS. When a user-defined stream point is selected, the model evaluates potential hydroelectric head, reservoir surface area and storage capacity curve, watershed time of concentration from DEM, and compensation area from land use data. The model was tested for 4 locations of already constructed Buhang, BohyunMountain, Sungdeok, and Yeongju dams. The modeling results obtained maximum possible heads of 37.0, 67.0, 73.0, 42.0 m, surface areas of 1.81, 2.4, 2.8, 8.8 ㎢, storages of 35.9, 68.0, 91.3, 168.3×106 ㎥ respectively. BohyunMountain and Sungdeok show validity but in case of Buhang and Yeongju dams have maximum head errors. These errors came from the stream generation error due to ASTGTM. So, wrong dam watershed boundary limit the head. This study showed a possibility to estimate potential hydroelectric dam sites before field investigation especially for overseas project.
Semantic video object extraction is important for tracking meaningful objects in video and object-based video coding. We propose a fast semiautomatic video object extraction algorithm which combines a watershed segmentation schemes and chamfer distance transform. Initial object boundaries in the first frame are defined by a human before the tracking, and fast video object tracking can be achieved by tracking only motion-detected regions in a video frame. Experimental results shows that the boundaries of tracking video object arc close to real video object boundaries and the proposed algorithm is promising in terms of speed.
The genetic algorithm is investigated fer parameters estimation of SED (storage - effective drainage) model from the Wi-stream watershed in Nakdong river basin. In the practical application of model, as a number of watershed parameters do not measure directly, it is desirable to make a good estimation from the known rainfall and runoff data. For the estimation of parameters of the SED model using the genetic algorithm, parameters of Green-Ampt equation(SM, K$\_$s/) for the estimation of an effective rainfall and initial storage(y$\_$in/) used in SED model are obtained a regression equation with 5, 10, 20 days antecedent precipitation. And as a consequence of computation, the parameters were obtained to satisfy the proposed objective function. From the comparison of observed and computed hydrographs, it shows a good agreement in the shape and the rising limb, peak, falling limb of hydrograph, so the SED model using the genetic algorithm shows a suitable model for runoff analysis in river basin.

The present image segmentation is what user want to segment image and has been studied for technology in composition of segment object with other images. In this paper, we propose a method of novel semi-automatic image segmentation using gradual region merging and genetic algorithm. Proposed algorithm is edge detection of object using genetic algorithm after selecting object which user want. We segment region of object which user want to based on detection edge using watershed algorithm. We separated background and object in indefinite region using gradual region merge from Segment object. And, we have applicable value which user want by making interface based on GUI for efficient perform of algorithm development. In the experiments, we analyzed various images for proving superiority of the proposed method.

Anisotropic diffusion is one of the widely used techniques in the field of image segmentation. In the conventional anisotropic diffusion [1]-[6], usually 4-neighborhood directions are used: north, south, west and east, except the image diagonal directions, which results in the loss of image details and causes false contours. Existing methods for image segmentation using conventional anisotroplc diffusion can't preserve contour information, or noises with high gradients become more salient as the umber of times of the diffusion increases, resulting in over-segmentation when applied to watershed. In this paper, to overcome the shortcoming of the conventional anisotropic diffusion method, a new arusotropic diffusion method based on diagonal edges is proposed. And a method of watershed segmentation is applied to the proposed method. Experimental results show that the process time of the proposed method including diagonal edges over conventional methods can be up to 2 times faster and the Circle image quality improvement can be better up to $0.45{\sim}2.33(dB)$. Experiments also show that images are segmented very effectively without over segmentation.
