A study on water-based epoxy coated on mild steel using the electroplating method was conducted to optimize the process parameters for dry film thickness to achieve superior paint quality at optimal cost in an automotive plant. The regression model was used to adjust various parameters such as electrode voltage, bath temperature, processing time, non-volatile matter, and surface area to optimize the dry film thickness. The average dry film thickness computed using the model was in the range of 15 - 35 ㎛. The error in the computed dry film thickness with reference to the experimentally measured dry film thickness value was - 0.5809%, which was well within the acceptable limits of all paint shop standards. Our study showed that the dry film thickness on mild steel was more sensitive to electrode voltage and bath temperature than processing time. Further, the presence of non-volatile matter was found to have the maximum impact on dry film thickness.
During automotive painting, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) associated with the paint solvents are emitted to the atmosphere. Most VOC emissions come from spraying operations via the use of solvent-based paints, as the spraybooth air picks up gaseous solvent compounds and overspray paint materials. The VOCs consist of aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters, alcohols, and glycolethers. Most VOCs (some hydrophilic VOCs are captured and retained in the water.) are captured by an adsorption system and thermally oxidized. In this paper, the processes involved in automotive painting and in VOC control are reviewed. The topics include: painting operations (briefly), the nature of VOCs, VOC-control processes (adsorption, absorption, biological removal, and thermal oxidation) and energy recovery from VOCs using a fuel reformer and a fuel cell, and the beneficial use of paint sludge.

Environmental-friendly nontocxic flame retardant paint which can overcomes the restriction of harmful materials for human body and environments such as Pb, Hg, Cd, $C^{+6}$, PBB/PBDE by EU and domestic Ministry of Environment was developed. Developed paint is the water-soluble organic inorganic hybrid material that VOC(volatility organic compound) discharge is low, and that human riskiness and environmental pollution is minimized not using the kinds of halogen materials. $Mg(OH)_2$, $Sb_{2}O_{3}$, and Zinc borate were used as flame retardant materials, 2% Micell and water were used as binder and solvent, respectively. Results showed the optimum activity was obtained when the ratio of those frame retardant agents($Mg(OH)_2$, $Sb_{2}O_{3}$, Zinc borate made by 1: 2: 2), binder(2% Micell) and water was 1: 0.5: 0.5.

The ceramic metal resin paints for waterproof and anti corrosion is not long history in development of materials even many actual result. So far, no standard have been given to construction and maintenance method, Quality and property, it is real state that cannot afford to proper quality control in job site or production. This study has been test for the ceramic metal resin paints for water and anti corrosion, as the result, it have proper performance of job site and mechanical performance of compare to other existing. In particular, tensile strength indicates more high about $14.1N/mm^2$ than epoxy resin paints, and in elongation per unit length is more high It is shows having better adhesive strength than epoxy resin paint for crack on the concrete structure. Moreover, The ceramic metal paint for water and corrosion proofing have to have main performance is watertightness and resistance for external impact, chloride ion permeation, drinkable water elution.

The paint removal of fighter jets is just as important as the painting, because perfect paint removal ensures the quality of the exterior painting on the aircraft. However, the current conditions for paint removal work of the ROKAF's are poor. It is identified that the painting process currently implemented by the ROKAF is not only exposed to harmful compounds such as harmful dust and hexavalent chromium, but also consumes a lot of water. Thus, the introduction of advanced facility is considered. This study compares the fighter jets painting removal process currently applied by the Korean Air Force with the improved laser coating removal process of the US Air Force, and conducts an incremental analysis to perform economic analysis for the introduction of advanced facility. Four scenarios were envisioned on the premise of an increase in the number of fighters in the future, incremental analysis shows that laser coating removal method is advantageous in all scenarios. In addition, it is recommended that paint removal cycle keeps the current 12-year and the outsourcing amount to civilian depot is reduced.

This experiment was carried out to study on the effect of surface coating on thermal insulation of farm structures to improve thermal resistance and reflective effect of solar radiation. Nine different types of experimental specimen were compared in the temperature variations of inside and outside; A, B, C, D. E and F types are box container and G, H and I types are drum container. The size of these containers is $1,500{\times}2,000{\times}2,500$ mm and ${\varphi}$$280{\times}330$ mm, respectively. Specimen of 3-type box(A, B, C) is galvanized steel sheet of thickness 0.45 mm. D, E and F types are sandwich panel of the thickness 50 mm inserted with urethane, glass wool and polystyrene form, respectively. G, H and I types are paint pot using in general. The surface of A. D, E, F and I types didn't any treatment, B, C and G types were treated with thermal insulation coating on the outside surface(B, G) or the inside and outside surface(C). And H type was treated with water paint coating on the only outside surface. In general, the experimental results showed the following tendencies; In case of A, B and C types. it was found that the thermal insulation effect of types coated with thermal insulation coating was improved remarkably than that of no treatment. And the thermal insulation effect between steel sheet and sandwich panel type was nearly similar There was not a significant difference of thermal insulation effect between thermal insulation coating and water paint coating. In time of drum container filled with rough rice, The difference of heat transfer tendency and temperature variation among surface treatments was nearly similar that of box types of galvanized steel sheet. And there was time lag about 6 hours between the temperature of middle part of rice and that of inside or outside surface.

This study is to analyze durability of water-repellent paints mixed with water-repellents as outer surface finishing materials, and evaluate its feasibility. General functions and water-repelling effects were tested, and the feasibility was evaluated based on the test results. The experimental results of heat conduction durability, air permeability, absorption, and bond strength suggested that water-repellent paints mixed with water-repellents were suitable for finishing materials. Considering overall general durability performances, stable mixing ratios were 2, 5, and 8%.
The current trend in automotive finishing industry is to use more electrostatic rotating bell (ESRB) need space to their higher transfer efficiency. The flow physics related with the transfer efficiency is strongly influenced by operating parameters. In order to improve their high transfer efficiency without compromising the coating quality, a better understanding is necessary to the ESRB application of metallic basecoat painting for the automobile exterior. This paper presents the results from experimental investigation of the ESRB spray to apply water-borne painting. The visualization, the droplet size, and velocity measurements of the spray flow were conducted under the operating conditions such as liquid flow rate, shaping airflow rate, bell rotational speed, and electrostatic voltage setting. The optical techniques used in here were a microscopic and light sheet visualization by a copper vapor laser, and a phase Doppler particle analyzer (PDPA) system. Water was used as paint surrogate for simplicity. The results show that the bell rotating speed is the most important influencing parameter for atomization processes. Liquid flow rate and shaping airflow rate significantly influence the spray structure. Based on the microscopic visualization, the atomization process occurs in ligament breakup mode, which is one of three atomization modes in rotating atomizer. In the spray transport zone, droplets tend to distribute according to size with the larger drops on the outer periphery of spray. In addition, the results of present study provide detailed information on the paint spray structure and transfer processes.

In this study, a comparative test was conducted on a specially developed elastic waterproof paint and general water-based paint for the purpose of responding to cracks occurring on the outer wall of concrete structures and improving watertightness. Through the comparative experiment, it was confirmed that the watertightness could be improved by securing the crack shielding property, and it was also confirmed that about 10 times more crack responsiveness was secured compared to general water-based paint. In addition, it was confirmed that the adhesion performance of at least 1.3MPa and resistance to a water permeation pressure of 0.1MPa were possible, confirming that stability was secured from a waterproofing perspective.
