Low impact development (LID) practices has become important to mitigate the damage from natural disasters in urban areas. Thereby many hydrological simulation models can simulate the hydrological impact of LID practices. However, commonly used models are not able to provide specific information to most users such as where LIDs should be placed and what kind of LID should be designed. In this study, a decision support system which can be used with the EPA's SWMM was developed for the determination of LID types and locations of LID practices, named Water Management Prioritization Module (WMPM), was applied to a urbanized university campus. Eight sub-catchments were selected as feasible candidate areas for the planning of LID practices. Pre-designated infiltration trenches and permeable pavements were applied to each selected sub-catchments, followed by peak and total runoffs comparison between before/after planning of LIDs. Moreover, TOPSIS, one of a multi-criteria decision analysis method was used in the procedure of selecting target sub-catchment areas and final prioritization of LID types and locations. As a result, sub-catchments S4 with permeable pavements and S16 with infiltration trenches has shown the most decrease in total and peak runoffs, respectively. Therefore, WMPM was found to be effective in determining the best alternative among various scenarios generated and simulated.
Groundwater accounts for more than 10% of the total water supply in Korea. However, the contribution of groundwater to public water supply systems has been poorly played role throughout the country except for Jeju Island. Compared with the groundwater uses in foreign countries, the pattern of groundwater use in Korea seems to be very deformed and unreasonable. Currently, the development and use of groundwater in Korea are mostly carried out by the individuals, and public sectors such as central and local governments are not actively involved in such activities. Private groundwater use and management will continue to cause groundwater depletion and pollution problems. It is necessary to actively enhance the role of public authorities in groundwater managements by engaging precise hydrogeological surveys and proper economic evaluation in the development and operation of groundwater sources. Also, in order to solve the problems that public water supply systems overly rely on the surface water sources, it is necessary to take policies that require the water supply companies to secure a variety of water sources.
A sprinkler is a fire suppression system that extinguishes combustible materials in the early stages of a fire, creating a spray. However, spray formation method of the sprinkler can result in an uneven distribution of water spray on the surface of combustible materials. It is necessary to ensure a consistent water flux density regardless of the spray direction and angle. In this study, the water flux distribution was analyzed for the various types of sprinkler head: circular, flush, pendent, and upright types. All sprinkler heads have a K-factor of 80 LPM/(0.1MPa)0.5. In this study, water collection cubes were used to examine the water flux distribution. The upright type sprinkler head showed a low standard deviation in total sprayed area, indicating a high level of uniformity. The upright type head showed the lowest standard deviation in the radial direction, and also showed the lowest standard deviation in the azimuthal direction. Upright sprinkler head has no obstructing structure along the path of droplets after they are generated. For this reason, upright sprinkler head showed the most uniform water flux distribution on the floor.

The purpose of this paper is to create ecological values for urban rivers. For this, the paper looks into river bed structures and how nearby lands are used. This study was performed to set the specific sections for analysis through a field investigation of the infrastructure conditions, surrounding land use, and the inter habitat structure of Seongnaecheon(Stream). A total of 780 individuals from 31 species of wild birds appeared in Seongnaecheon(Stream). According to foraging guild's habitat, there were 9 species of water, 8 types of water edges, 5 types of crowns, 5 types of shrubs, 2 types of tree trunks, 2 types of birds of raptors, and 355 individuals of water, 243 shrubs, 90 crowns, 84 water edges and 5 raptors. Many water birds were observed at the site where the Seongnaecheon(Stream) sandy plains and wetland herbaceous area were developed and the open water was secured. Most of the forest birds appeared on levee slope connected with forest around and riverside with fewer facilities for use. The species diversity index of Shannon, the entire section of Seongnaecheon(Stream), was 2.2697 and the downstream ecological landscape conservation area of Seongnaecheon(Stream) was found to be useful as a habitat for wild birds in the city compared to other sections. Some sections of Seongnaecheon (Stream) had low species diversity index due to lack of green space and surrounding urbanization areas. In choosing target species, I researched the special features of the habitats and the habitation structure of wild birds in each zone. Regarding detailed plans, by classifying the breeding place & roosting site and the roosting site & shelter that took account of the inhabitation characteristics of the target species in different sections, this paper suggested the major plant species and multilayer planting structures. Moreover, this study proposed the development of habitats for water birds and forest birds along with the connection of the green network for improving the Eco-corridor linkage and inhabitation features in Seongnaecheon(Stream).
The hydrogeochemical and isotopic studies on deep groundwater (below a 550 m depth from the ground surface) in the Munkyeong area, Kyeongbuk province were carried out. Two types of deep groundwater (${CO_2}$-rich groundwater and alkali groundwater) occur together in the Munkywong area. ${CO_2}$-rich groundwater (Ca-${HCO_3}$ type) is characterized by low pH (5.8~6.5) and high TDS (up to 2,682 mg/L.), while alkali groundwater (Na-${HCO_3}$ type) shows a high pH (9.1~10.4) and relatively low TDS (72~116 mg/L). ${CO_2}$-rich water may have evolved by ${CO_2}$ added at depth during groundwater circulation. This process leads to the dissolution of surrounding rocks and Ca, Na, Mg, K and ${HCO_3}$ concentrations are eniched. The low $Pco_2$ ($10^{-6.4}$atm) of alkali groundwaters seems to result from the dissolution of silicate minerals without a supply of ${CO_2}$. The ${\delta}^{18}O$ and ${\delta}^D$values and tritium data indicate that two types of deep groundwater were both derived from pre-thermonuclear meteoric water and have evolved through prolonged water-rock interaction. The carbon isotope data show that dissolved carbon in the ${CO_2}$-rich water was possibly derived from deep-seated ${CO_2}$ gas, although further studies are needed. The ${\delta}^{34}S$ values of dissolved sulfate show that sulfate reduction occurred at great depths. The application of various chemical geothermometers on ${CO_2}$-rich groundwater shows that the calculated deep reservoir temperature is about 130~$l75^{\circ}C$. Based on the geological setting, water chemistry and environmental isotope data, each of the two types of deep groundwater represent distinct hydrologic and hydrogeochemical evolution at depth and their movement is controlled by the local fracture system.

New types of protocols have been recently in development, all based on an absorbed dose-to-water with the aim of improving the accuracy of measurements of absorbed dose to water. IAEA TRS-277, the air-kerma standard-based present protocol, and IAEA TRS-398 and AAPM TG-51, the absorbed dose-to-water standard-based new one, were studied and compared theoretically and experimentally for photon beams of 6, 10, and 15 MV. NE 2571 and 3 Farmer types of ionization chambers in widely commercial use were used to determine an absorbed dose to water at the reference depth in water. Two different kinds of calibration factors were given respectively for every chamber calibrated in $\^$60/CO gamma ray beams from a Korean Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory (KFDA). This work shows that there is around 1 % of difference of absorbed doses measured between two different types of calibration systems owing to different physical parameters and reference conditions used. We hope this work to help form the basis on development of new type of protocol in Korea.
This study is objected to demonstrate the spatial variability of the ground-water recharge by classifying the types of ground-water hydrographs and assessing the recharge ratio(the ratio of the rise of ground-water level to cumulative precipitation) of each type using the National Ground-water Monitoring network data. A total of 5 types were identified by factor analysis on the ground-water hydrographs nationwide. The recharge ratio of each type were estimated to be 6.5% (TYPE I), 4.1 % (TYPE II), 9.2%(TYPE III), 5.8 %(TYPE IV), 15.3 %(TYPE V) in the confidence level of 95.44% and 6% variation was estimated site by site even in the same type. The recharges of Han, Nakdong, Keum, Youngsan·Seomjin river basins were estimated as 10.0 %, 6.1 %, 8.3 %. and 6.6 % respectively. These results were consistent with the results of the existing baseflow method.
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to compare the color stability, water sorption and cytotoxicity of thermoplastic acrylic resin for the non-metal clasp dentures to those of thermoplastic polyamide and conventional heat-polymerized denture base resins. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three types of denture base resin, which are conventional heat-polymerized acrylic resin (Paladent 20), thermoplastic polyamide resin (Bio Tone), thermoplastic acrylic resin (Acrytone) were used as materials for this study. One hundred five specimens were fabricated. For the color stability test, specimens were immersed in the coffee and green tee for 1 and 8 weeks. Color change was measured by spectrometer. Water sorption was tested after 1 and 8 weeks immersion in the water. For the test of cytotoxicity, cell viability assay was measured and cell attachment was analyzed by FE-SEM. RESULTS. All types of denture base resin showed color changes after 1 and 8 weeks immersion. However, there was no significant difference between denture base resins. All specimens showed significant color changes in the coffee than green tee. In water sorption test, thermoplastic acrylic resin showed lower values than conventional heat-polymerized acrylic resin and thermoplastic polyamide resin. Three types of denture base showed low cytotoxicity in cell viability assay. Thermoplastic acrylic resin showed the similar cell attachment but more stable attachment than conventional heat-polymerized acrylic resin. CONCLUSION. Thermoplastic acrylic resin for the non-metal clasp denture showed acceptable color stability, water sorption and cytotoxicity. To verify the long stability in the mouth, additional in vitro studies are needed.
We examined the effects of land cover types on water quality based on data surveyed during April 2007-February 2008 from 178 sites of 111 streams in Paldang watershed. BOD, COD, DO, SS, T-N, and T-P concentrations of spring and summer were strongly and significantly associated with the first principal component of the proportions of eight land cover types, and differences between all parameter's concentration except SS and T-N of spring and summer were insignificantly related with them. SS and T-N concentration of summer were significantly correlated with increase and decrease of stream flow. T-P concentration of spring was the most significantly related with the second principal component which was positively correlated with the proportions of residential and forest land covers and was negatively correlated with the proportions of paddy and grass land covers. It is necessary to manage land use of the upper watershed and stream flow for improvement in water quality because seasonal variations of each water quality parameter are dependent upon land cover and flow variations.

Ecotoxicity assessments of 90 selected effluents of 22 industry types from 2002 to 2004 in Korea were evaluated by a toxic battery of bioassay test using fish Oryzias latipes, invertebrate Daphnia magna, algae Selenastrum capricornutum and bacteria Vibrio fischeri with the physicochemical measurement items and permit concentrations on the present Water Quality Conservation Act in Korea. Total toxic unit (${\Sigma}TU$) of 8 industry types of 22 industry types by the toxic battery appeared in order of the value site as follows; Pigment Dye Manufacturing (${\Sigma}TU$ 217.1) > Textile and Dye (${\Sigma}TU$ 39.3) > Semiconductor Electronic Manufacturing (Small) (${\Sigma}TU$ 25.6) > Wastewater and Sewage Treatment Plants (${\Sigma}TU$ 25.4) > Coating (${\Sigma}TU$ 23.8) > Leather Skin Manufacturing (${\Sigma}TU$ 18.0) > Synthetic Resin Manufacturing (${\Sigma}TU$ 15.6) > Assemble Metal Manufacturing (${\Sigma}TU$ 10.7). Our results demonstrate that ecotoxicity assessment, by bioassay test, is effective and practical for industrial wastewater management for 90 selected effluents with the limitation of the physicochemical permit. Among 90 effluents, 9 samples failed physicochemical permit limitation and 81 passed it. In result of ecotoxicity assessment of 90 effluents by the toxic battery, 76 effluents exhibited ecotoxicity and the others did not. The physicochemical measurement items and permit concentrations on the present Water Quality Conservation Act in Korea were low related to the ecotoxicity value by the toxic battery and appeared limited for water quality management to water-ecosystem and environment-friendly management of water.
