In this study, the capacity of supplying agricultural water to 13 districts was analyzed by calculating the necessary water supply for the arable land of Gunwi-gun and examining the capacity of supplying water to reservoirs, streams, pumping stations, collection sites, and groundwater wells in Gunwi-gun. As a result, among the 13 districts the second district was found to be short of water by 1.2×106 tons/year. In general, local governments establish drought measures by selecting drought disaster risk zones. While selecting drought-risk areas, some water-poor areas that do not have water sources should be selected, even if the entire area has a sufficient water supply. The water-supply evaluation at the regional level was insufficient for locating areas without water sources, but most areas with water sources, such as streams, reservoirs, and pumping stations, were found to have no shortage of water. To locate water shortage areas without water sources, GIS analysis conducted a field survey of areas with a distance of 4 or less than that of water sources analyzed by GIS analysis. Sixty-nine sites in 13 districts were selected for the on-site survey and six areas of water shortage were identified in areas other than the second district.
Optimum design of water distribution network(WDN) in many times means just reducing redundancy. Given only a few situations are taken into consideration for such design, WDN deprived of inherited redundancy may not work properly in some unconsidered cases. Quantifying redundancy and incorporating it into the optimal design process will be a way of overcoming just reduction of redundancy. Expected shortage is developed as a reliability surrogate in WDN. It is an indicator of the frequency, duration and severity of failure. Using this surrogate, Expected Shortage Optimization Model (ESOM) is developed. ESOM is tested with an example network and results are analyzed and compared with those from other reliability models. The analysis results indicate that expected shortage is a quantitative surrogate measure, especially, good in comparing different designs and obtaining tradeoff between cost and. reliability. In addition, compared other models, ESOM is also proved useful in optimizing WDN with reliability and powerful in controlling reliability directly in the optimization process, even if computational burden is high. Future studies are suggested which focus on how to increase applicability and flexibility of ESOM.
According to 2012 OECD environmental report, Korea was ranked as the first country of water stress. Water footprint is a method to calculate water usage during the life cycle of a product from material procurement through production to disposal to recycle and to quantify the load to water resources. In water footprint calculation, water consumption unit is used. Agricultural water use is over 48% so it is urgent to mange that area Korea needs to spread the discussion about water footprint as quickly as possible, for the study to prevent social and environmental problems due to water shortage. This paper, through water footprint calculation and comparison in Chungju and Geochang areas, looks to counter measures for water risk, targeting domestically-produced apple.
The purpose of this study is to develope a indicator for agricultural water use. Agricultural water is challenged by the increase of water use in the sectors of urbanization and industry and social pressure to use water in sustainable and environmentally sound way. The development of agricultural environment indicators is divided into 13 sectors, among which agricultural water use indicators include amount and intensity of agricultural water use, efficiency of agricultural water use, shortage or surplus of water use, water stress, etc.. Agricultural water use indicators provide basic data for sustainable and environmentally sound agricultural development, and also help policy decision makers to solve water shortage problems through water policy and water management measures by making the most of the total available water resources.
In this study, the water supply reliability of the andong and Imha dam was analyzed using inflow data for 360 months from 1993 to 2022 through allocation model. First, in the analysis results of additional water supply to Deagu city, the water supply reliability of Rule (B) was the highest at 86% for andong dam, 84% for imha dam, and 80% for the control point. However, when the planned supply was supplied, the analysis results showed 94%, 93%, and 90%. Next, in the quantitative reliability analysis results, when considering additional water supply to Deagu city, Rule (A), Rule (B), and Rule (C) were analyzed as 88%, 88%, and 88%, respectively, based on the control point. When supplying the planned water supply, the quantitative reliability analysis results were 95% equally based on Rule (A), Rule (B), and Rule (C). Because of evaluating the two reliability methods, the number of shortages increases significantly when additional water is supplied to Daegu City, but the shortage is generally 5-7%, resulting in a relatively small shortage compared with the increase in the number of shortages. In the case of resilience and vulnerability, additional water supply to Daegu City takes more than two months to restore than the existing planned water supply, and the average shortage was calculated to be smaller than that of supplying the planned water. According to the results of the analysis, Andong dam has an average water storage of 130x106 m2 and Imha dam has 50x106 m2. In this deficient water supply can be compensated by water from the Nakdong river.
Although stable and safe drinking water supply to the customers is a basic function of multi-regional water supply systems in Korea, most systems have their vulnerabilities in emergency time due to the branch-type. Application of connections from the other water supply system can provide a solutions for these tentative problems. This paper describes reduction planning of water supply accidents that can minimize a service interruption to customers in multi-regional water supply system by connecting pipe lines between local water supply systems in Mokpo city areas. The result of this study shows that Juam dam multi-regional water supply systems can cover all of the water shortage in southern parts of Jeonnam multi-regional water supply systems by transmitting water through connected pipes between local networks. This can be effective to supply water interactively in various contingencies, when a pipe line accident occurs in southern area of Jeonnam multi-regional water supply systems. On the contrary, southern area of Jeonnam multi-regional water supply systems can cover 99.5 %($62,500m^3/day$) of the water shortage of Juam dam multi-regional water supply systems when service interruptions caused by various pipe accidents occur in the system.
Currently, the interests of shortage of water supply is on the rise. Even developed countries are also suffering from a drought and insufficient water supply. Likewise other countries, we do have same problem, but unfortunately we do not have any proper solution either. One of the ways suggested to settle the problem is using rain water that gets people's eyes. Rain water is evaluated such as a good way to blow the problem of water shortage out and unlimited resource. So, this study focused on the prospect of rain harvest system and possible economic effects if this system adopt in Main Stadium of Busan Asiad.
