This study is aimed at establishing the categories and items for ecological assessment and evaluation of the environmental friendliness of golf courses in the capital region of Korea. The categories and items for the assessment have been derived based on the existing literature and interviews with golf experts. This study covers 32 golf courses in the capital region of Korea that are available in terms of data and on-site surveys. In order to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the environmental friendliness of the golf courses, the assessment area was divided into 4 categories that include a total of 14 sub-categories. The 4 categories encompass 1) location, 2) topography, 3) vegetation, and 4) construction. As its sub-categories, the location category includes current land use and zoning in the National Land Use Management Law. Topography has 2 sub-categories in the damage ratio of existing topography, gradient, cut area, and slope height. The assessment of vegetation is largely based on site surveys in the categories of preservation of the existing vegetation, the use of natural resources and existing trees, the component ratio of native tree species, the multi-layered structure of vegetation, and the utilization of water purification plants. In the aspect of construction, afforestation on tile slopes and the utilization of existing surface soil were evaluated. The examination of comparative analysis among the 10 items as a ratio measure showed that the scores were low in the sub-categories of current land we, the use of existing trees, and the multi-layered structure of vegetation. However, the rating results were satisfactory in the 2 sub-categories including cut area, and the utilization of native tree species. Those proved to be contributing factors in the ecological health of the golf courses. According to correlation analysis of the 10 items to the overall ecological rating of each golf course, the sizes of the 32 golf courses were mainly affected by the damage ratio of existing topography, gradient, preservation of vegetation and slope height. This study has the initiative to conduct an ecological assessment of golf courses in the country based on site surveys. The study results revealed that location factors such as current land use, damage ratio of topography and gradient and topographical factors were the main factors affecting the environmental friendliness of golf courses. This indicates indicating the significance of these factors in the future construction practices of golf courses. Furthermore, this study raises the need for follow-up studies to establish more detailed assessment criteria and to develop assessment techniques for areas such as slope afforestation and water purification plants that need a qualitative approach.
To evaluate the influences of stocking and removal of silver carp on plankton communities and physicochemical parameters, fish biomanipulation was conducted in six enclosures constructed on the coast of a hypertrophic lake during the summer of 1997. Of these, three enclosures were established for the fish-stocking experiment; one fishless enclosure used as a control and two enclosures with high and low densities of fish. The other three enclosures for the fish-removal experiment were prepared in an entirely converse process compared to that for fish stocking. The results of randomized intervention analysis (${\alpha}=0.05$) showed significant changes in several physicochemical parameters and plankton communities after fish stocking and removal. Fish stocking decreased water transparency, DO, pH and chi-a (> $40\;{\mu}m$), while increasing the concentration of nitrogen and chi-a (<$2\;{\mu}m$). However, water transparency did not increase by fish removal. Small plankton communities, such as picocyanobacteria, eukaryotic picoplankton and ciliates (<$2\;{\mu}m$) showed significant reciprocal changes after both fish treatments: increase by the presence of fish and decrease by the absence of fish. No count of large sized phytoplankton and zooplankton showed significant change in the presence of fish, while large zooplankton, Diaphanosoma, Cyclopida and nauplii were significantly increased by fish removal. Although the frequent heavy-winds and endless supply of phosphorus from the lake sediment strongly disturbed the fish behavior and enclosure management, the stocking and removal of silver carp showed an obvious reciprocal influences on plankton communities and its physico-chemical parameters in a shallow-hypertrophic lake.

Numerical model with LPT (Lagrangian Particle Tracking) module was used to understand the variation of residence time in the outer sea of the Sihwa lake result operating from the Sihwa tidal power plant. Numerical model was composed in order to investigate the spatial distribution characteristics, the average residence time in each area was calculated by dividing the outer sea area of Sihwa lake into 4 areas. The average residence time of the areas appeared to be increase as it entered the areas located in the inner bay (13 days) from the area located in most outer sea (3 days) both before and during operation. Variation of average residence time by areas were increased in the area that was located in the most outer sea of during operation compared to before operation, and decreased in the other area. Artificial discharges from tidal power plant induces particle traps in the formation of vortex in the area located in the most outer seas, entrainment in the remaining areas, which affects variation in residence time. In other words, the jet flow generated during drainage and the change in the residence time due to the vortex and entrainment action indicate the increase horizontal mixing of water in the outer sea and in the inner bay.

Climate change has caused detrimental phenomena such as heavy rainfall which could aggravate soil erosion. Accordingly, it is needed to evaluate the groundwater recharge, baseflow, and soil erosion for the efficient management of water resources and quality. In this study, future climate change scenarios were applied to the H aean-myeon watershed which is a steep sloping watershed in South Korea to analyze groundwater recharge, baseflow, sediment. Also, the variation of groundwater recharge, baseflow, sediment was analyzed according to the change of slope (5 %). Simulated periods were divided into three terms (2013 ~ 2040 years, 2041 ~ 2070 years, 2071 ~ 2100 years). As a result of this study, average groundwater recharge and baseflow increased by 50 %, 42 %, and sediment decreased by 72 %, respectively. In these regards, the suggested method will positively contribute to hydro-ecosystem and reduction of muddy water at a steep sloping watershed.

The objective of this study was to select the right species among Agastache in the family Lamiaceae as the result of growth analysis and functional substance analysis. Among 22 species of Agastache, five species (Agastache cana, Agastache foeniculum, Agastache rugosa 'Spike Blue', Agastache rugosa 'Spike Snow', Agastache rupestris) were selected by referring to United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)'s plant hardiness zone area and Korea's one based on USDAs. These plants were cultured at 24 ± 1℃ and 18 ± 1℃ (day and night temperatures, respectively) and 65 ~ 75% relative humidity in a hydroponic culture system for 4 weeks. In terms of growth analysis experiment, stem length, root length, leaf width, leaf area, leaf number, SPAD value, and fresh and dry weights of shoots and roots were measured. The results showed that A. rugosa SS and A. rugosa SB have a higher overall balance value than other species. When compared functional substance value (rosmarinic acid, tilianin, and acacetin) of five species, A. rugosa SS and A. rugosa SB are significantly higher than other species in Agastache. It seems to be directly proportional to the growth analysis results. When considering the growth and functional substance part comprehensively, A. rugosa SS and A. rugosa SB are the most optimal high-value species among Agastache.
Interceptor sewer is installed underground near to the river side mostly ofstate-owned land and the management efficiency of public sewage disposal facilities is decreasing as too much infiltration/inflow(I/I) and river flow to interceptor sewer are caused by broken or deteriorated sewer. This also affects the sewer pipeline project and decreases its efficiency. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate interceptor sewer which has influence on the reduction of the project effect. The investigation were performed for three study areas. The study includes the investigation of current condition of interceptor sewer(sewer extension, pipe diameter, pipe type, installed year, installed locations, etc), investigation of inside of sewer by CCTV accompanied by pumping and dredging works where required, investigation of inside of manholes by eyes, calculation of pollutant load using the results of investigation of flow quantity and quality. Multipoint investigations were simultaneously performed for flow quantity at confluence area and other investigations were also performed for flow quantity and BOD for interceptor sewer and comparison of pollutant load, investigation of infiltration/inflow(I/I) caused by deterioration of interceptor sewer. As the result of the study, a main reason for reduced effect of sewer pipe improvement project was analyzed as the low-density sewage and I/I in public seweage treatment Facility due to deteriorated and unmanaged interceptor sewers.
Alien species are known to threaten regional biodiversity globally, which has increased global interest regarding introduction of alien species. The Ministry of Environment of Korea designated species that have not yet been introduced into the country with potential threat as alert alien species to prevent damage to the ecosystem. In this study, potential habitats of Esox lucius and Maccullochella peelii, which are predatory and designated as alert alien fish, were predicted on a national basis. Habitat suitability was evaluated using EHSM (Ecological Habitat Suitability Model), and water temperature data were input to calculate Physiological Habitat Suitability (PHS). The prediction results have shown that PHS of the two fishes were mainly controlled by heat or cold stress, which resulted in biased habitat distribution. E. lucius was predicted to prefer the basins at high latitudes (Han and Geum River), while M. peelii preferred metropolitan areas. Through these differences, it was expected that the invasion pattern of each alien fish can be different due to thermal preference. Further studies are required to enhance the model's predictive power, and future predictions under climate change scenarios are required to aid establishing sustainable management plans.

Recently, as the fishery resources are depleted, expectations for productivity improvement by 'rearing fishery' in land farms are greatly rising. In the case of land farms, unlike ocean environments, it is easy to control and manage environmental and breeding factors, and has the advantage of being able to adjust production according to the production plan. On the other hand, unlike in the natural environment, there is a disadvantage in that operation costs may significantly increase due to the artificial management for fish growth. Therefore, profit maximization can be pursued by efficiently operating the farm in accordance with the planned target shipment. In order to operate such an efficient farm and nurture fish, an accurate growth prediction model according to the target fish species is absolutely required. Most of the growth prediction models are mainly numerical results based on statistical analysis using farm data. In this paper, we present a growth prediction model from a stochastic point of view to overcome the difficulties in securing data and the difficulty in providing quantitative expected values for inaccuracies that existing growth prediction models from a statistical point of view may have. For a stochastic approach, modeling is performed by introducing a Gaussian process regression method based on water temperature, which is the most important factor in positive growth. From the corresponding results, it is expected that it will be able to provide reference values for more efficient farm operation by simultaneously providing the average value of the predicted growth value at a specific point in time and the confidence interval for that value.

This study interprets the evolving ideologies of Singapore's urban environmental policies focusing on the meanings encapsulated within the notion of 'garden'. Through a comprehensive review of policy documents, legislative materials, development projects, government promotional materials, and organizational changes in each era, the study identifies three phases, each with distinct central themes. Commencing in the 1960s, the initial phase projected a meticulously controlled and managed cityscape using the notion of garden, which was epitomized by the slogan 'Garden City'. In this phase, garden was a representative concept that embodied the cleanliness and greenness of the city, and also served as a strategic rhetoric to effectively transfer the ideology of an exemplary picturesque city to the public. Subsequently, in the 1970s, the focus gradually shifted from individual green spaces and bodies of water towards a collective system which served as a foundational infrastructure of the city-nation. This evolution was reflected in the new slogan 'City in a Garden', where the garden is now not only summoned for its external appearance but also as an unified system which serves as the cornerstone of the city. Through these phases, the Singaporean government developed a scheme capable of integrated management of green spaces and water resources tailored to the scale and function of each. Building upon this foundation, the early 2000s saw the adoption of a new orientation focusing on sustainability and urban ecology, encapsulated in the revised slogan 'City in Nature'. For more than five decades, Singapore has demonstrated an adept utilization of the notion 'garden'. This scholarly examination underscores Singapore's journey in redefining urban landscapes through the strategic employment of the concept of garden in its urban environmental policies. By tracing the evolution of the garden concept across distinct phases, the study illuminates how the Singaporean government leveraged the garden's versatility: from an effective metaphor of aesthetic values to an integral component of its holistic urban system, and finally to a bridge between the urban and the natural.

Excessive abstraction of groundwater near streams for agricultural, domestic, or industrial use can significantly reduce the streamflow. Therefore, proper management of water resources must involve careful monitoring of groundwater use near streams. This study investigates the current status of groundwater intake plans in the Anseongcheon watershed, Korea, in order to understand the portion of groundwater wells according to distance from the stream and the distribution of wells near the stream. Among all the wells in the watershed, 20.5% were permitted and 31.3% were declared within 300m from the stream. In particular, among the wells located near streams, 11.4% were permitted and 88.6% were declared among the wells near streams. Therefore, the total amount of groundwater pumping rates from the declared wells is much higher than that from the permitted wells near the stream. Under current guidelines, investigations of the impact of groundwater use near a stream on streamflow depletion should only consider wells permitted by groundwater law. However, prudent management should also pay attention to declared wells, given their large number.
