Catalytic combustion is one of the suitable methods for micro power source due to high energy density and no flame quenching. Catalyst loading in the micro structured combustion chamber is one of the most important issues in the development of micro catalytic combustors. In this research, to coat catalyst on the chamber wall, two methods were investigated. First, $Al_2O_3$ was selected as a support of Pt and $Pt/Al_2O_3$ was synthesized through the alumina sol-gel procedure. To improve the coating thickness and adhesion between catalyst and substrate, heat resistant and water solvable organic-inorganic hybrid binder was used. Porous silicon was also investigated as a catalyst support for platinum. Through the parametric studies of current density and etching time, fabrication process of $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$ of diameter and about $25{\mu}m$ depth pores was confirmed. Coated substrates were test in the micro channel combustor which was fabricated by the wet etching and machining of SUS 304. Using $Pt/Al_2O_3$ coated substrate and Pt coated porous silicon substrate, conversion rate of fuel was over 95% for $H_2$/Air premixed gas.

In the present study, the effect of initial microstructure, cold reduction ratio, and annealing temperature on the spherodization rate of SK85 high carbon steel sheet was investigated. High carbon steel sheet fabricated by POSCO was soaked at $800^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr in a box furnace and then treated at $570^{\circ}C$ for 5 min in a salt bath furnace followed by water quenching to obtain a fine pearlite structure. Cold rolling was conducted on the sheets of fine pearlite by reduction ratios of 20, 30, and 40% and heat treatment for spheroidization was carried out at 600 and $720^{\circ}C$ for the various time intervals from 0.1 to 32 hrs. Area fraction of spheroidized cementite was measured with an image analyzer as a function of cold reduction ratios and duration times.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influences on mechanical properties of two-stroke cycle motor pistons manufactured by casting, conventional forging and powder forging, through the comparison of characteristics, merits and disadvantages of each forming technology. For each forming technology, the optimal process parameters were determined through the experiments for several conditions, and microstructure, hardness, tensile strength and elongation of pistons are compared and analyzed. In conventional forging process, material temperature was $460^{\circ}C$ and the die temperature was $210^{\circ}C$ for the Al 4032. The optimal condition was found as solution treatment under $520^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours, quenching with $23^{\circ}C$ water, and aging under $190^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours. In powder forging process, the proper composition of material was determined and optimal sintering conditions were examined. From the experiment, 1.5% of Si contents on the total weight, $580^{\circ}C$ of sintering temperature, and 25 minutes of sintering time were determined as the optimal process condition. For the optimal condition, the pistons had 76.4~78.3 [HRB] of hardness, and 500 [MPa] of tensile strength after T6 heat treatment.

There is an increasing need for large flat panel display devices. PDP (Plasma Display Panel) is one of the most promising candidates for this need. Thermal shock failure of PDP glass during manufacturing process is a critical issue in PDP industry since it is closely related to the product yield and the production speed. In this study, thermal shock resistance of PDP glass is measured by water quenching test and an analysis scheme is described for estimating transient temperature and stress distributions during thermal shock. Based on the experimental data and the analysis results, a simple procedure for predicting the thermal shock failure of PDP glass is proposed. The fast cooling process for heated glass plates can accelerate the speed of PDP production, but often leads to thermal shock failure of the glass plates. Therefore, a design guideline for preventing the failure is presented from a viewpoint of high speed PDP manufacturing process. This design guideline can be used for PDP process design and thermal -shock failure prevention.
The effect of heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of cast Ti-6%Al-4%V alloy was investigated. Heat treatment of cast Ti-6Al-4V alloy was conducted by solution treatment at $950^{\circ}C$ for 30 min; this was followed by water quenching and then aging at $550^{\circ}C$ for 1 to 1440 min. The highest hardness of the heat-treated specimens was obtained by solution treatment and subsequent aging for 5 min due to precipitates of fine ${\alpha}$ that formed from retained ${\beta}$ phase. The tensile strength of this alloy increased without dramatic decrease of the ductility due to microstructural refinement resulting from the decomposition of ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ martensite into fine ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ phases, and also due to the fine ${\alpha}$ phase formed from the retained ${\beta}$ phase by aging treatment for 5 min. In addition, this strengthening might be caused by the transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) effect, which is a strain-induced martensite transformation from the retained ${\beta}$ phase during deformation, and which occurs even after aging treatment at $550^{\circ}C$ for 5 min.

Small angle light scattering and field emission scanning electron microscope have been used to quantify the kinetics of liquid-liquid separation behavior during water vapor(RH52%[$\pm$3%] at 27$^{\circ}C$) quenching (non-solvent induced phase separation, NIPS) of polysulfone/NMP/Alcohol and CPVC/THF/Alcohol, respectively. Time dependence of the position of the light scattering maximum was observed at polysufone dope solutions, confirming spinodal secomposition (SD). while CPVC dope solutions showed a decreased scattered light intensity with a increased q-valuel, indicating nucleation & growth (NG). For the each system, domain growth rate in the intermediate and late stage of phase separation decreased with increasing the number of carbon of alcohol used as additive (non-solvent). Also, in the early stage for SD, the scattering intensity with time was in accordance with Cahns linear theory of spinodal decomposition,[1-3] regardless of types of non-solvent additive.
Crystallizable glasses with precipitation of celsian, anorthite, wollastonite and gahnite were prepared for the purpose of insulating dielectric layers in devices such as integrated circuit substrates. The starting glasses were prepared by melting the batches for 1 hour at 1450.deg. C and then Quenching to a distilled water. And crystallization behavior of these glasses were studied by DTA, TMA, XRD analysis and by the measurement of dielectric properties. The overall composition of the glass-ceramic consists in weight percent of 30-35% A1$_{2}$O$_{3}$, 13-26% BaO, 5-21% CaO, 10-24% ZnO, 4.5-9.0% TiO$_{2}$ and 4-8% B$_{2}$O$_{3}$. As a result, in barium-rich glasses only celsian phase was developed in the range of 850-900.deg. C. Also, the thermal expansion coefficient, dielectric constant and quality factor of these glass-ceramics were 68*10$^{-7}$ /.deg. C, about 9 and more than 1000, respectively.

Because of beautiful glossy and color, the value of gold leverage is very high in Europe. For improve the quality of white gold, we performed heat treatment on 14K white gold alloys at various age-hardening conditions. Age-hardening behavior and the related phase transformation changes were studied to elucidate the hardening mechanism of 14K white gold alloys. For solid solution treatment [ST], casted 14K white gold alloy specimens were treated at high temperature ($750^{\circ}C$) during 30 minute, and the specimens dropped to water for quenching immediately. For Age-hardening treatment [AT], the specimens were treated at various temperatures ($250^{\circ}C{\sim}300^{\circ}C$). After the heat treatment, we observed increased hardness from 144 Hv to 214 Hv by Vicker's hardness tester. Variation of the grain size measured by optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. By electron probe micro-analysis (EPMA) mapping analysis, we investigated that irregular particles were changed uniformly. After heat treatment, 14K white gold alloys showed improved hardness and became uniformity of grain size by age-hardening treatment.
