  • Domestic agricultural reservoir dam facilities are difficult to manage water resources because of the in summer rainfall increase due to aging and climate change, it is expected that the dam risk will be large due to the overflow. In this study, author selected study basin in order to evaluate hydrological safety of agricultural reservoir dam facilities. And calculated the probable rainfall, Present PMP, Future PMP considering climate change. Also, author carried quantitative analysis out for increasing rainfall due to climate change, analyze freeboard assessment of agricultural reservoir by calculate flood discharge, reservoir flood routing according to rainfall scenarios. As a result of evaluate hydrological safety of agricultural reservoir dam facilities using Future PMP considering climate change, Gosam, Kumkwang, Miho, Cheongcheon reservoir had the Highest Water Level over the design flood level, it is analyzed that it would be vulnerable to overflow risk.

  • This paper was performed to estimate interrelations between humus level of sediments and nutrient release from sediments in Dae-cheong reservoir. For investigations, sediments were sampled in June and October, in 1997 at fish farms, embayment, and the main stream of Dae-cheong reservoir. Items for investigation are as follows; water content, weight loss on ignition(IG), porosities of sediments, contents of element such as hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, and nutrient release rates. Water contents and porosities were measured to conjecture the physical trait and grain size trait. Weight loss on ignition was measured to determine the contents of organic substance. For determination of the humus level of sediments, carbon and nitrogen contents were measured by elemental analyzer. As a result of elemental analysis, C/N ratio was determined in the range of $3.0\~13.1$. From the elemental analysis, humus level of Dae-cheong reservoir sediment was estimated from mesohumic state to oligotrophic state. For the determination of nutrient release rate, $PO_4-P$ and $NH_4-N$ concentrations of interstitial water and overlying water were measured. By using the concentration difference between interstitial water and overlying water and using the Fick's diffusion law, the release rates of phosphorus and nitrogen from the sediment samples were calculated. Release rates of nutrients which directly influence to the water quality were $0.05\~8.63mgP/m^2day$ and $4.99\~36.56mgP/m^2day$. It was found that release rate was measured higher in the 1st sampling period than in the 2nd sampling period. For the determination of phosphorus content in sediment, TPs were measured in 807\~1542{\mu}g/g$ in the 1st samling period and $677\~5238{\mu}g/g$ in the End samling period. Phosphorus release rate and phosphorus content were not interrelated each other.

  • Along with climate change, it is reported that the extreme climate events such as severe drought could cause difficulties of agricultural water supply. To minimize such damages, it is necessary to secure the agricultural water resources by using or saving the amount of irrigation water efficiently. The objectives of this study were to develop paddy water management scenarios and to evaluate their effectiveness on water saving. Three water management scenarios (a) deep irrigation with ponding depth of 20~80 mm (control, CT), (b) no/intermittent irrigation until paddy cracks (water management A, WM-A), and (c) intermittent irrigation with ponding depth under 20 mm (water management B, WM-B) were developed. Water saving effects were analyzed using monitored data from experimental paddy fields, and agricultural water supply was analyzed on a reservoir-scale using MASA model. The observed irrigation amounts were reduced by 21 % and 17 % for WM-A and WM-B compared to CT, respectively, and mainly occurred by the increase of effective rainfall. The simulation results showed that water management scenarios could reduce irrigation by 21~51 % and total inflow by 10~24 % compared to CT. The long-term simulated water level change of agricultural reservoir resulted in the decrease of dead level occurrence for WM-A and WM-B. The study results showed that WT-A and WT-B have more benefit than CT in the aspect of agricultural reservoir water supply.

  • Heavy metal contamination levels in Andong reservoir and Imha reservoir were measured with heavy metal contents in both water and sediment, and analyzed with heavy metal accumulation level in inhabitant fish, Carassius auratus, using an inductively coupled plasma spectrometer and an atomic absorption spectrometer. High levels of heavy metal contents in water, sediment and the tissues of C. auratus were detected. Likewise, relatively high levels of As were detected in water and sediment from Andong reservoir. In addition, higher levels of Cr, Cu, Cd and As content were detected in muscle and bone tissues of fish from Andong reservoir than those from Imha reservoir. As a result, the heavy metal content of water, sediment and inhabitant fish, C. auratus, in Andong reservoir was higher than Imha reservoir. We proposed that heavy metal contamination in water and inhabitant fish is attributed to various metals derived from abandoned mines and farmlands that are upstream of Andong reservoir.

  • Reservoir operation during flood period can be divided into two parts: One is for an operating policy during flood period to consider water conservation and flood control, and the other is for flood time on a random water level at flood forecasting, This study is concerned with reservoir operation and discusses general reservoir operation at flood time. Flood control has problems such as the uncertainty of hydrologic models. technical limitations and some constraints. Therefore, we may prepare the quantitative flood control methods based on the assured flood control storage for reservoir operation. Transformed Reservoir Flood(TRF) Reservoir Operation Method(ROM) is a procedure which determines the adequate releases with considering dam safety for flood inflows over non-damaging discharge. Based on the TRF ROM which was explained in our published paper. the study discusses the TRF ROM with additional investigations and the general reservoir operation rules at flood time.

  • In this study, it is grasped the status of nutrients through an investigation of release characteristics and physicochemical properties of sediments on reservoir. And then the effect of sediments is evaluated on the water quality in reservoir. In the results of physicochemical analysis, the pollution level of midstream is the highest, which shows the traits that the water is more deeper and takes place a deposition consistently. Then, the pollution level of upstream is higher than downstream's because inflow has influence on the upstream directly. The downstream is located near tidal gate so that the soil particles can be moved easily and are difficult to be deposited due to the distribution of seawater by control of tidal gate. Therefore, the downstream is showed the lowest pollution level than the others. Also, the concentration of SOD(Sediment Oxygen Demand) in the upstream which is influenced on the effect of inflow is highest than the others. When it analyzes under anaerobic and aerobic condition to understand the release characteristic of sediment, it shows that the release rate is low or negative under the aerobic condition. Whereas the release rate is usually positive under the unaerobic condition relatively. According to these results, it is necessary to maintain the proper environmental factors of water body for decreasing the release rate of sediment. Because the release rate is changeable under the different condition of water body. Therefore, proper strategies are required for increasing the self-purification of water as well as keeping the aerobic condition of sediment and managing a sediment layer directly to control the inner-pollution by the sediment of reservoir.

  • In order to analyze water supply capacity in estuary barrage dam, a system was developed in which base model was consisted of daily water balance model and daily inflow model. Agricultural water demand to paddy fields and domestic and industrial water demand were considered in this daily water balance model. Also outflow volume through sluice gate and inside water level at time to start outflow was conditioned initially to simulate reservoir storage. The DAWAST model was selected to simulate daily reservoir inflow in which return flows from agricultural, domestic and industrial water were included to simulate runoff. Using this developed system, water supply capacity in the Keum river estuary reservoir was analyzed.

  • The behaviour of an earth and rock-fill dam is complicated due to reservoir water and various materials in zoned dams. Different materials with a wide range of permeability and seasonal variation of reservoir water result in the time dependent post-constructional behaviour. In aged dams it is often required to control water level to keep the dams safe. In this case information on the post-constructional dam behaviour is important. However, present geotechnical knowledge does not fully support the occasion. In this study the post-constructional behaviour of a dam is investigated using coupled finite element models for series of idealized water reservoir cases: impoundment, draw down, seasonal fluctuation with different rising and falling speeds. Numerical results were analysed in respect of geotechnical parameters such as load transfer, hydraulic fracturing potential and stress paths. It is shown that the control of water level is an important factor while operating dams.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the performance of water level classification from CCTV images in agricultural facilities such as reservoirs. Recently, the CCTV system, widely used for facility monitor or disaster detection, can automatically detect and identify people and objects from the images by developing new technologies such as a deep learning system. Accordingly, we applied the ResNet-50 deep learning system based on Convolutional Neural Network and analyzed the water level of the agricultural reservoir from CCTV images obtained from TOMS (Total Operation Management System) of the Korea Rural Community Corporation. As a result, the accuracy of water level detection was improved by excluding night and rainfall CCTV images and applying measures. For example, the error rate significantly decreased from 24.39 % to 1.43 % in the Bakseok reservoir. We believe that the utilization of CCTVs should be further improved when calculating the amount of water supply and establishing a supply plan according to the integrated water management policy.
