Groundwater flow in a basin is greatly affected by many hydrogeological and hydrological characteristics of the basin. A groundwater flow model for the Kap-cheon basin ($area=648.3km^2$) in the Geum river basin was established using MODFLOW by fully considering major features obtained from observed data of 438 wells and 24 streams. Furthermore, spatial groundwater recharge distribution was estimated employing accurately calibrated watershed model developed using SWAT, a physically semi-distributed hydrological model. Model calibration using observed groundwater head data at 86 observation wells yielded the deterministic coefficient of 0.99 and the water budget discrepancy of 0.57%, indicating that the model well represented the regional groundwater flow in the Kap-cheon basin. Model simulation results showed that groundwater flow in the basin was strongly influenced by such factors as topological features, aquifer characteristics and streams. The streams in mountainous areas were found to alternate gaining and losing steams, while the streams in the vicinity of the mid-stream and down-stream, especially near the junction of Kap-cheon and Yudeong-cheon, areas were mostly appeared as gaining streams. Analysis of water budget showed that streams in mountainous areas except for the mid-stream and up-stream of Yudeong-cheon were mostly fed by groundwater recharge while the streams in the mid and down-stream areas were supplied from groundwater inflows from adjacent sub-basins. Hence, it was concluded that the interactions between surface water-groundwater in the Kap-cheon basin would be strongly inter-connected with not only streams but also groundwater flow system itself.
Sludge transporting pipes in wastewater treatment plant are easy to be clogged with struvite when the digested sludge and dehydrated filtrate are transported through the pipes, which lowers the efficiency of sludge treatment system in a WWTP. pH is one of the most important factors in struvite formation, and carbon dioxide separated from biogas can be used to control pH and struvite formation. By controlling pH, the amount of dehydrating agent can be reduced by about 10%, which saves the budget for facility maintenance. As $CO_2$ is reused and dehydrating chemicals are saved, the approach can contribute to global warming gas reduction.

This paper describes the process of acidic precipitation from the atmosphere to the ground water, The net deposition of wet precipitation to the ground surface is obtained by subtracting the interception loss due to plant leaves and evaporation from the amount of total precipitation. As the water immerses through the vegetation and the different soil layers the various chemical reactions take place. The relationship between the acidic precipitation by increasing industrial emissions and the soil acidification mechanism is discussed. The report focuses on the buffering action that involves the proton budget in soil and rocks. Based on the soil constituents, the six buffer ranges of the soil are classified and each buffering process is illustrated. In addition, the Possibility of the contamination of drinking-water reservoirs by continuous acid burden is emphasized.

Water- borne infectious diseases can be acquired by contact with contaminated water or by ingestion of contaminated water. There are many water- borne infectious agents such as bacteria, virus, and parasite. Among many of water- borne infectious diseases, health authorities of Korean government has particularly intensified to prevent and control typhoid fever(class I ), shigellosis(class I ), cholera(class I ), paratyphoid fever(class I), amebiasis(class II ) and leptospirosis(euivalent to class II ) under the communicable disease control law. Water- borne disease Prevention and control guideline itself has been also well provided by the health authorities. However, in practical public health point of view, there are still many problems remained to be solved out; no prospective investigation project to survey water borne infectious diseases under the national disease prevention and control programmes, incredible statistic data of annual notifiable disease report frequent appearance and varieties of drug resistance water- borne infectious agents, little cooperation and information- exchange system in between the related government authorities( the health authorities, the environment sanitation authorities and the food hygiene authorities) which should be closely collaborated, lack of health consciousness of the people, necessity of evaluation and Hndification on to the outcomes of performed health activities and programmes, neglect activities for water quality investigation, shortage of expertise and human resources in the related field, and poor investment of the government budget to develope and improve public health and sanitation field. In order to prevent and control water- borne infectious diseases effectively, it is emphasized that all the above indicated should be considered and performed to improve under the national health and sanitation development programmes.
In this paper a methodology is developed to prioritize replacement of water distribution pipes according to the economical efficiency of replacement and assess the long-term effects of water main replacement policies on water distribution systems. The methodology is implemented with MATLAB to develop a computer algorithm which is used to apply the methodology to a case study water distribution system. A pipe break prediction model is used to estimate future costs of pipe repair and replacement, and the economically optimal replacement time of a pipe is estimated by obtaining the time at which the present worth of the total costs of repair and replacement is minimum. The equation for estimating the present worth of the total cost is modified to reflect the fact that a pipe can be replaced in between of failure events. The results of the analyses show that about 9.5% of the pipes in the case study system is required to be replaced within the planning horizon. Analyses of the yearly pipe replacement requirements for the case study system are provided along with the compositions of the replacement. The effects of water main replacement policies, for which yearly replacement length scenario and yearly replacement budget scenario are used, during a planning horizon are simulated in terms of the predicted number of pipe failures and the saved repair costs.
The simple biosphere model 2 (SiB2), which is one of the land surface models, simulates the exchange of momentum, energy and mass such as water vapor and carbon dioxide between atmosphere and biosphere, and includes the biochemical sub-model for representation of stomatal conductance and photosynthetical activities. Throughout the SiB2 simulation, the significant information not only to understand of water and carbon budget but also to make an analysis of interaction such as feed-back and-forward between environment and vegetation is given. Using revised SiB2-Paddy, one sample study which is the evaluation of the runoff in Chaophraya river basin according to land use/cover change is presented in this review. Hence, SiB2 is available in order to ecological studied, if revised SiB2 for realistic simulation about soil respiration, computing leaf area index, vegetation competition and soil moisture is improved.
Climate change is getting worse in the 21st century. So, water shortages are expanding worldwide. Carbon dioxide generated from the use of fossil fuels is 80% of the total green house gas. Because it occupies, it has become a factor of global warming. Therefore, the importance of water treatment membrane, gas separation membrane, and secondary battery separation membrane is increasing, but it occupies technology in developed countries such as the United States, Japan, and Germany. Therefore, the advancement of membrane technology is urgently required. So, although the country supports a lot of research budgets, We will analyze the results using NTIS data. As a result of the analysis used, it is supported mainly for short-term tasks, and the research budget is small compared to other technical fields, so the basic material field technology is weak. Therefore, when we invest a lot of long-term tasks, with a lot of budget, and universities, membrane technology has been improved and competitiveness has been strengthened.
The purpose of water distribution system is supplying water to users by maintaining appropriate pressure and water quality. For efficient monitoring of the water distribution system, determination of optimal locations for pressure monitoring is essential. In this study, entropy theory was applied to determine the optimal locations for pressure monitoring. The entropy which is defined as the amount of information was calculated from the pressure change due to the variation of demand reflected the abnormal conditions at nodes, and the emitter function (fire hydrant) was used to reproduce actual pressure change pattern in EPANET. The optimal combination of monitoring points for pressure detection was determined by selecting the nodes receiving maximum information from other nodes using genetic algorithm. The Ozger's and a real network were evaluated using the proposed model. From the results, it was found that the entropy theory can provide general guideline to select the locations of pressure sensors installation for optimal design and monitoring of the water distribution systems. During decision-making phase, optimal combination of monitoring points can be selected by comparing total amount of information at each point especially when there are some constraints of installation such as limitation of available budget.
Solar pumps, for water lift systems, is becoming popular in rural areas for supplying drinking water in dry seasons when its need is elevated. The development in technology has also made solar pumps readily available and cheap which has increased its demands. So, for scattered settlements having a limited budget for operation and maintenance costs, solar pump is preferred over grid connected electrical pumping systems. This primary objective of the study was to design a solar photovoltaic pumping drinking water supply system for a small health post which is about 45 km east from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. The study also compared and verified the final design with the system's existing design prepared by a development agency. The water source for this study was a confined aquifer 115m below the surface. The water demand was calculated to be 11m3 per day. A 1500 kPa submersible pump attached to a motor was selected and installed. Along with that twelve solar panels, reservoir, transmission main and distribution main was designed. The outcomes conclude solar photovoltaic pumping water supply systems to be cost-effective with an estimated cost of only USD 0.84 million per MLD. Solar pumps require low maintenance and operation costs and its repairs can quickly be done by the local people. The study also shows that solar technology produces no sound, needs no fuel making it environmentally friendly.
