In this study, to investigate the effect of spray behavior characteristics, we induce the mixing ratio of emulsified fuel using impinging spray. We formulate the emulsified fuel by mixing diesel and hydrogen peroxide($H_2O_2$). We set the temperature of the heating plate to $150^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$, and $250^{\circ}C$, and set the injection pressures to 400, 600, 800, and 1000bar. The surfactants for the emulsified fuel mixture, which were mixed span80 and tween80 was mixed as 9:1, were fixed to 3% of the total volume of the emulsified fuel. We set the mixing ratio of $H_2O_2$ in the emulsified fuel as emulsified fuel(EF)0, EF2, EF12, and EF22. Further, we visualize the evaporation impinging spray using the Schlieren method. Based on the results of this study, we found that a higher temperature and injection pressure of the heating plate impingement led to the active diffusion of the fuel vapor, which promoted emulsified fuel evaporation. When the emulsified fuel is utilized in an actual engine, because of the temperature-drop effect of the combustion chamber, which is due to the evaporation of $H_2O_2$ in fuel and faster mixture formation is expected to decrease the engine emissions.

The performance characteristics of water-chilling heat pump using CO2 for the control of inverter frequency was investigated experimentally. An experimental apparatus is consisted of a compressor, a gas cooler, an expansion valve, an evaporator and a liquid receiver. All heat exchangers used in the test rig are counter flow type heat exchangers with concentric dual tubes, which are made of copper. The gas cooler and the evaporator consist of 6 and 4 straight sections respectively arranged in parallel, each has 2.4m length. The experimental results summarize as the following: for constant inlet temperature of evaporator and gas cooler, as mass flow rate, compression ratio and discharge pressure increases with the inverter frequency. And heating capacity and compressor work increases, but coefficient of performance(COP) decreases with the inverter frequency of compressor. As inlet temperature of secondary fluid in the evaporator increases from $15^{\circ}C$ to $25^{\circ}C$, compression ratio and compressor work decreases, but mass flow rate, heating capacity and COP increases with the inverter frequency of compressor. The above tendency is similar with performance variation with respect to the variation of inverter frequency in the conventional vapor compression refrigeration cycle.

The proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell system is critically dependent on the humidity, which should be properly maintained over the entire operating range. A membrane humidifier is used for the water management in the PEMFC because of the membrane humidifier's reliable performance and zero parasitic power loss. In the PEMFC system, the membrane humidifier is required to provide appropriate humidity for the design point of the fuel cell. Although the performance of the fuel cell depends on the performance of the humidifier, few studies have provided a systematic analysis of the humidifier. We carry out an experimental analysis of the membrane humidifier using a vapor condensation bottle. The dry air pressure, water flow temperature, and air flow rate were chosen as the operating parameters. The results show that the time constant for the dynamic response of the membrane humidifier is relatively short, but additional analysis should be carried out.

Benzoyl peroxide is a High Production Volume Chemical, which is produced about 1,371 tons/year in Korea as of 2001 survey. The substance is mainly used as initiators in polymerization, catalysts in the plastics industry, bleaching agents for flour and medication for acne vulgaris. In this study, Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships (QSAR) are used for getting adequate information on the physical -chemical properties of this chemical. And hydrolysis in water, acute toxicity to aquatic and terrestrial organisms for benzoyl peroxide were studied. The physical -chemical properties of benzoyl peroxide were estimated as followed; vapor pressure=0.00929 Pa, Log $K_{ow}$ = 3.43, Henry's Law constant=3.54${\times}$10$^{-6}$ atm-㎥/mole at $25^{\circ}C$, the half-life of photodegradation=3 days and bioconcentration factor (BCF)=92. Hydrolysis half-life of benzoyl peroxide in water was 5.2 hr at pH 7 at $25^{\circ}C$ and according to the structure of this substance hydrolysis product was expected to benzoic acid. Benzoyl peroxide has toxic effects on the aquatic organisms. 72 hr-Er $C_{50}$ (growth rate) for algae was 0.44 mg/1.,48 hr-E $C_{50}$ for daphnia was 0.07mg/L and the 96hr-L $C_{50}$ of acute toxicity to fish was 0.24mg/L. Acute toxicity to terrestrial organisms (earth worm) of benzoyl peroxide was low (14 day-L $C_{50}$ = > 1,000 mg/kg). Although benzoyl peroxide is high toxic to aquatic organisms, the substance if not bioaccumulated because of the rapid removal by hydrolysis (half-life=5.2 hr at pH 7 at $25^{\circ}C$) and biodegradation (83% by BOD after 21 days). The toxicity observed is assumed to be due to benzoyl peroxide rather than benzoic acid, which shows much lower toxicity to aquatic organisms. One can assume that effects occur before hydrolysis takes place. From the acute toxicity value of algae, daphnia and fish, an assessment factor of 100 was used to determine the predicted no effect concentration (PNEC). The PNEC was calculated to be 0.7$\mu\textrm{g}$/L based on the 48 hr-E $C_{50}$ daphnia (0.07 mg/L). The substance shows high acute toxicity to aquatic organisms and some information indicates wide-dispersive ore of this substance. So this substance is, a candidate for further work, even if it hydrolysis rapidly and has a low bioaccumulation potential. This could lead to local concern for the aquatic environment and therefore environmental exposure assessment is recommended.
Fluid inclusions in amethyst from the Samcheonpo amethyst deposit of the Waryongsan area, Kyongnam generally grouped into four different types: Type I (liquid-rich and $10{\sim}23wt%$ NaCl, $Th=289{\sim}359^{\circ}C$), Type II (vapor-rich and $2{\sim}10wt%$ NaCl, $Th=304{\sim}365^{\circ}C;$), Type III (halite-bearing, $31{\sim}54wt%$ NaCl, $Th=259{\sim}510^{\circ}C;$), and Type IV ($CO_{2}-bearing\;9{\sim}13wt%\;NaCl,\;126{\sim}277^{\circ}$). Type I, II, and III inclusions are confined in the lower part of the amethyst and Type IV in the upper, which indicates significant hydrothermal activity during the earliest stage of the amethyst growth or the solidus condition of granitic rocks. The earliest fluid exsolved from the crystallizing granitic magma formed Type IIIa which is spatially associated with silicate melt inclusions. The homogenization behavior of Type IIIa inclusions by dissolution of the halite crystal after the bubble disappearance indicates that Type IIIa inclusions were trapped at some relatively elevated pressure. Exsolution of Type IIIb, I, II forming fluids with gradual decrease in their salinity was followed. The last fluid was $CO_{2}-bearing$ fluid (Type IV), which is assumed to be derived by decarbonization reactions with the surrounding sedimentary rocks. It suggests that the fine-grained granitic rocks containing the Samcheonpo amethyst crystallized at the sub-solvus condition saturated with water and exsolved abundant water.
Due to the growth in industrialization, potential hazards in subsurface environments are becoming increasingly significant. The extraction of the contaminant from the soil and movement of the water are restricted due to the low permeability and adsorption characteristics of the reclaimed soils. There are a number of approaches to in-situ remediation that are used in contaminated sites for removing contaminants. These include soil flushing, dual phase extraction, and soil vapor extraction. Among these techniques, soil flushing was the focus of the investigation in this paper. Incorporated technique with PVDs has been used for dewatering from fine-grained soils for the purpose of ground improvement by means of prefabricated vertical drain systems. The laboratory model tests were performed by using the flushing tracer solutions for silty soils and recorded the tracer concentration changes with the elapsed time and flow rates. The modeling was intended to predict the effectiveness and time dependence of the remediation process. Modeling has been performed on the extraction, considering tracer concentration and laboratory model test characteristics. The computer model used herein are SEEP/W and CTRAN/W, this 2-D finite element program allows for modeling to determine hydraulic head and pore water pressure distribution, efficiency of remediation for the subsurface environment. It is concluded that the coefficient of permeability of contaminated soil is related with vertical velocity and extracted flow rate. The vertical velocity and extracted flow rate have an effect on dispersivity and finally are played an important role in-situ soil remediation.

The importance of securing water resources and their efficient management has attracted more attention recently due to water deficit. In water budget analysis, however, evapotranspiration(${\lambda}E$) has been approximated as the residual in the water balance equation or estimated from empirical equations and assumptions. To minimize the uncertainties in these estimates, it is necessary to directly measure ${\lambda}E$. In this study, using the eddy covariance technique, we have measured ${\lambda}E$ in a mixed forest in the Seolmacheon catchment in Korea from September 2007 to December 2008. During the growing season(May-July), ${\lambda}E$ in this mixed forest averaged about $2.2\;mm\;d^{-1}$, whereas it was on average $0.5\;mm\;d^{-1}$ during the non-growing season in winter. The annual total ${\lambda}E$ in 2008 was $581\;mm\;y^{-1}$, which is about 1/3 of the annual precipitation of 1997 mm. Despite the differences in the amount and frequency of precipitation, the accumulated ${\lambda}E$ during the overlapping period(i.e., September to December) for 2007 and 2008 was both ${\sim}110$ mm, showing virtually no difference. The omega factor, which is a measure of decoupling between forest and the atmosphere, was on average 0.5, indicating that the contributions of equilibrium ${\lambda}E$ and imposed ${\lambda}E$ to the total ${\lambda}E$ were about the same. The results suggest that ${\lambda}E$ in this mixed forest was controlled by various factors such as net radiation, vapor pressure deficit, and canopy conductance. In this study, based on the direct measurements of ${\lambda}E$, we have quantified the relative contribution of ${\lambda}E$ in the water balance of a mixed forest in the Seolmacheon catchment. In combination with runoff data, the information on ${\lambda}E$ would greatly enhance the reliability of water budget analysis in this catchment.

To validate the accuracy of the boiling heat flux partitioning model, an experiment was performed to investigate how the wall heat flux is divided into the three heat transfer modes of evaporation, quenching, and single-phase convection during subcooled nucleate boiling on a vertical wall. For the experimental partitioning of the wall heat flux, the wall heat flux and liquid-vapor distributions were simultaneously obtained using synchronized infrared thermometry and the total reflection technique. Boiling experiments of water with subcooling of $10^{\circ}C$ were conducted under atmospheric pressure, and the results obtained at the wall superheat of $12^{\circ}C$ and average heat flux of $283kW/m^2$were analyzed. There was a large difference in the heat flux partitioning results between the experiment and correlation, and the bubble departure diameter and bubble influence factor, which account for a portion of the surrounding superheated liquid layer detached by the departure of a bubble, were found to be important fundamental boiling parameters.
Effects of depolymerization treatments of a carbohydrase mixture (CM), ultrasound, and irradiation on the physical properties of defatted mustard meal-based edible films (DMM films) were investigated. DMM hydrocolloids were added to CM (0.42% (w/w solution)), treated by ultrasound (500-700 W, 10-30 min) or ${\gamma}$-ray (40-100 kGy) to prepare film-forming solutions. Films were formed by drying. The CM treatment at 0.42% (w/w), pH 5.5, and 40-$50^{\circ}C$ with a 0.5 hr incubation time resulted in the highest colloidal stability in the film-forming solution. The depolymerization treatments did not dramatically change the water vapor permeability of the films. The solubility of the film decreased up to 53.1% by the CM treatment. The ultrasound treatment (700 W-30 min) decreased tensile strength and elongation. The ultrasound treatment (600 W-20 min) resulted in more compact and uniform structures of the films. Flavor profiles were differentiated by the power level and the time of the ultrasound treatment.
The reduction factor of pesticides is getting more crucial these days. However, most studies have focused on the relationship between pesticides and commodities. This study was conducted to examine the pesticide reduction factor based on their physicochemical properties. Five pesticides were selected among 288 insecticides by considering the presence of an ionizable group, the log P, and boiling points. The correlation coefficients between log P and removal by tap water, 5% acetic acid, 20% ethanol, and 0.15% detergent were -0.835 (p<0.001), 0.336 (p=0.221), 0.659 (p<0.01), and -0.939 (p<0.001), respectively. Removal by blanching was affected by log P as it showed a positive correlation with a log P of 0.620 (p<0.05). Removal by frying showed a strong negative correlation with a log P of -0.913 (p<0.001). The results suggest that removing pesticides was affected largely by log P and by vapor pressure during cooking, whereas during washing, the matrix of the food also contributed to the reduction.
