A traditional propeller can easily become entangled with floating objects while operating. In this paper, we present a newly developed Electromagnetic-valve-control-based Water-jet Propulsion System (ECWPS) for an unmanned surface cleaning vessel that can be flexibly controlled via a Micro Control Unit (MCU). The double-structure was adapted to the unmanned surface cleaning vessel for floating-collection missions. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software for operating effect simulation was also used to reveal the working principle of the ECWPS under different conditions. Neglecting the assembly technique, the design level, controlling strategy, and maneuvering performance of the ECWPS reached unprecedented levels. The ECWPS mainly consists of an Electromagnetic-valve Array (EA), pipeline network, control system, and water-jet source. Both CFD analyses and experimental results show that the hydraulic characteristic of the ECWPS was predicted reasonably, which has enormous practical value and development prospects.

A variety of methods for detecting the location of an underground water pipeline are being used across the world; the current main methods used in South Korea, however, have the problems of low precision and efficiency and the limitations in actual application. On this, this study developed locator capable of detecting the location of a water pipe by the use of an IMU sensor, and technology for using the extended karman filter to correct error in location detection and to plot the location on the coordinate system. This study carried out a tract test and a road test as basic experiments to measure the performance of the developed technology and equipment. As a result of the straight line, circular and ellipse track tests, the 1750 IMU sensor showed the average error of 0.08-0.11%; and thus it was found that the developed locator can detect a location precisely. As a result of the 859.6-m road test, it was found that the error was 0.31 m in case the moving rate of the sensor was 0.3-0.6 m/s; and thus it was judged that the equipment developed by this study can be applied to long-distance water pipes of over 1 km sufficiently. It is planned to evaluate its field applicability in the future through an actual pipe network pilot test, and it is expected that locator capable of detecting the location of a water pipe more precisely will be developed through research for the enhancement of accuracy in the algorithm of location detection.
The water and sewage system is an infrastructure that provides safe and clean water to people. In particular, since the water and sewage pipelines are buried underground, it is very difficult to detect system defects. For this reason, the diagnosis of pipelines is limited to post-defect detection, such as system diagnosis based on the images taken after taking pictures and videos with cameras and drones inside the pipelines. Therefore, real-time detection technology of pipelines is required. Recently, pipeline diagnosis technology using advanced equipment and artificial intelligence techniques is being developed, but AI-based defect detection technology requires a variety of learning data because the types and numbers of defect data affect the detection performance. Therefore, in this study, various defect scenarios are implemented using 3D printing model to improve the detection performance when detecting defects in pipelines. Afterwards, the collected images are performed to pre-processing such as classification according to the degree of risk and labeling of objects, and real-time defect detection is performed. The proposed technique can provide real-time feedback in the pipeline defect detection process, and it would be minimizing the possibility of missing diagnoses and improve the existing water and sewerage pipe diagnosis processing capability.

Recently, the utilization of recycled aggregates for backfilling a power transmission pipeline trench has been increasing due to the issues of eco-friendly construction and shortage of natural aggregate resource. It is important to investigate the physical and thermal properties of the recycled aggregates that can be used as a backfill material. This study presents the thermal properties of two types of recycled aggregates with various particle size distributions. The thermal properties of the recycled aggregate were measured using the transient hot wire method and the probe method after performing the standard compaction test using an automatic compactor. Similar to silica sand, the thermal resistivity of the recycled aggregates decreased when the water content increased. This study shows that the recycled aggregate can be a promising backfill material substituting for natural aggregate when backfilling the power transmission pipeline trench.

Many techniques of leak detection in pipeline systems have developed based on the propagation wave speeds and wave attenuation. In this paper, the transient analysis methodology is used for calculating the wave speed in the plastic pipe and a frequency analysis methodology is developed for leakage detection in water pipe networks. Data acquisition system for pressurized pipeline system were designed md fabricated to obtain high frequency pressure data. The methodology properly handles the unavoidable uncertainties in measurement and modeling error. Based on information from head pressure test data, it provides leak prediction capability from the transient events with leakage.
In present, most of metallic structures(gas pipeline, oil pipeline, water pipeline, etc) are running parallel with subway and power line in seoul. Moreover subway system and power line make a stray current due to electrical corrosion on metallic structures. The owner of metallic structures has a burden of responsibility for the protection of corrosion and the prevention against big accident such as gas explosion or soil pollution and so on. So, they have to measure and analyze the data about P/S(Pipe to Soil) potential due to stray current of subway system. In this paper, results of development about Real-time Wireless Remote Monitoring System for Stray Current of Subway System are presented.

The study was focused on the development of computational scheme in three dimensional configurations by applying effective heat capacity model to the numerical procedure in order to predict the temperature profiles of a buried pipeline and the frozen penetration depth(FPD) of a freezing soil medium. To realize this, the investigator conducted the unsteady state heat transfer analysis, using the commercial code ABAQUS, for the freezing granite soil medium including a pipeline in a closed system. The proposed model took into consideration the phase change effect of in situ pore water in the frozen fringe. The comparison of results obtained by the proposed model and the actual performances was valuable in establishing a level of confidence in the application of introduced theory.
The owner of underground metallic structures (gas pipeline, oil pipeline, water pipeline, etc) has a burden of responsibility for the corrosion protection in order to prevent big accidents like gas explosion, soil pollution, leakage and so on. So far, Cathodic Protection(CP) technology have been implemented for protection of underground systems. The stray current from DC subway system in Korea has affected the cathodic protection (CP) system of the buried pipelines adjacent to the railroads. In this aspect, KERI has developed a various mitigation method, drainage system through steel bar under the rail, a stray current gathering mesh system, insulation method between yard and main line, distributed ICCP(Impressed Current Cathodic System), High speed response rectifier, restrictive drainage system, Boding ICCP system. In this paper, the mechanism of mitigation method of DC stray current for underground metallic structures is described.
