  • The object of this study was to find out the immunomodulatory effects of Ginger Aqueous extracts, as compared with that of ${\beta}$-glucan well-known an immune modulator, on the cyclophosphamide (CPA) induced immunosuppress mice. To induce immunosuppress, 150 and 110 mg/kg of CPA were dissolved in saline and injected intraperitoneally at 3 or 1 day before start of test article administration, respectively. ${\beta}$-glucan or gingers (125, 250, 500 mg/kg) were dosed, 4 times at 12-hr intervals starting 24hrs after last CPA-treatment. Distilled water was used as a vehicle and each groups were used 10 mice. As results of twice intraperitoneal CPA treatment, decreases in the body weight and gain, weight of thymus, spleen. However these CPA-induced immunosuppress changes were inhibited by treatment of three different dosages of ginger or ${\beta}$-glucan as compared with CPA control. Similar favorable inhibitory activities on weight and histopathological change of spleen and thymus induced CPA treatment were detected between ${\beta}$-glucan and ginger 250 mg/kg treated groups.

  • Underwater acoustics, which is the study of phenomena related to sound waves in water, has been applied mainly in research on the use of sound navigation and range (SONAR) systems for communication, target detection, investigation of marine resources and environments, and noise measurement and analysis. The main objective of underwater acoustic remote sensing is to obtain information on a target object indirectly by using acoustic data. Presently, various types of machine learning techniques are being widely used to extract information from acoustic data. The machine learning techniques typically used in underwater acoustics and their applications in passive SONAR systems were reviewed in the first two parts of this work (Yang et al., 2020a; Yang et al., 2020b). As a follow-up, this paper reviews machine learning applications in SONAR signal processing with a focus on active target detection and classification.

  • Surface and edge finishing processes are important technological operations of in parts machining. Quality of the finished parts directly affect the performance of the whole product. Especially, edge quality, which depends on burr control, is extremely important. Burrs are undesirable projections of the material beyond the edge of the workpiece. A number of deburring processes have been developed such as barreling, brushing, chemical methods etc. But, there are only few publications in the area of applying ultrasonics to deburring. When ultrasonic vibration propagates in the liquid medium, a large number of bubbles are formed. These bubbles generate an extremely strong force, which can be used to remove burrs. Cavitation is used as a term to describe the erosion of parts caused by the action of cavities in liquid. The object of this study is to analyze the effects of ultrasonic cavitation in the deburring process. For this purpose, we introduce a new ultrasonic cavitation method, which efficiently removes the burrs. Experimental parameters to verify the deburring effects of ultrasonic cavitations are ultrasonic power, amplitude, distant of the transducer from the workpiece, deburring time and abrasive. It has been shown that deburring with ultrasonic cavitation in water is effective to burrs.

  • The main goal of this paper is to assess application of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) remote sensing and GIS based images in detection and measuring of rice field drought area in South Korea. Drought is recurring feature of the climatic events, which often hit South Korea, bringing significant water shortages, local economic losses and adverse social consequences. This paper describes the assesment of the near-realtime drought damage monitoring and reporting system for the agricultural drought region. The system is being developed using drought-related vegetation characteristics, which are derived from UAV remote sensing data. The study area is $3.07km^2$ of Wonbuk-myeon, Taean-gun, Chungnam in South Korea. UAV images were acquired three times from July 4 to October 29, 2015. Three images of the same test site have been analysed by object-based image classification technique. Drought damaged paddy rices reached $754,362m^2$, which is 47.1 %. The NongHyeop Agricultural Damage Insurance accepted agricultural land of 4.6 % ($34,932m^2$). For paddy rices by UAV investigation, the drought monitoring and crop productivity was effective in improving drought assessment method.

  • Unsupervised classification is an important area of research in image processing because supervised classification has the disadvantages such as long task-training time and high cost and low objectivity in training information. This paper focuses on unsupervised classification, which can extract ground object information with the minimum 'Spectral Angle Distance' operation on be behalf of 'Spectral Euclidian Distance' in the clustering process. Unlike previous studies, our algorithm uses the unit vector, not the spectral distance, to compute the cluster mean, and the Single-Pass algorithm automatically determines the seed points. Atmospheric correction for more accurate results was adapted on the Hyperion data and the results were analyzed. We applied the algorithm to the Hyperion and ETM+ data and compared the results with K-Means and the former USAM algorithm. From the result, USAM classified the water and dark forest area well and gave more accurate results than K-Means, so we believe that the 'Spectral Angle' can be one of the most accurate classifiers of not only multispectral images but hyperspectral images. And also the unit vector can be an efficient technique for characterizing the Remote Sensing data.

  • Durability of rubber dust cover in the ball joint for automotive suspension parts is analyzed by FEM and compared with experimental data. Upper open area of ball joint is sealed by dust cover for preventing outflow of the lubricating oil and intrusion of send, dust, water, etc. This rubber cover undergoes repeated loadings such as tension and compression while the car is running. Analysis about rubber material needs to consider every kinds of nonlinearities arise in finite element analysis, which are geometric nonlinearity due to large displacement and small strain, materially nonlinearity and nonlinear boundary condition such as contact. The deformation behavior of dust cover is analysed by using the commercial finite element program MARC. In the study, this program could solve these kinds of nonlinear analysis accurately. Finite element model of dust cover is considered as 3-dimensional half model based on 2-dimensional axisymmetric model. Material property of rubber is modeled by Ogden model and input data for calculation takes form uniaxial tension test of rubber specimen. The final object of the study is obtaining the design specification of dust covers and the result of analysis should be a useful data to design of rubber cover.

  • In recent years, video detection systems have been implemented in various infrastructures such as airport, public transportation, power generation system, water dam and so on. Recognizing moving objects in video sequence is an important problem in computer vision, with applications in several fields, such as video surveillance and target tracking. Segmentation and tracking of multiple vehicles in crowded situations is made difficult by inter-object occlusion. In the system described in this paper, the mean shift algorithm is firstly used to filter and segment a color vehicle image in order to get candidate regions. These candidate regions are then analyzed and classified in order to decide whether a candidate region contains a license plate or not. And then some characters in the license plate is recognized by using the fuzzy ARTMAP neural network, which is a relatively new architecture of the neural network family and has the capability to learn incrementally unlike the conventional BP network. We finally design a license plate recognition system using the mean shift algorithm and fuzzy ARTMAP neural network and show its performance via some computer simulations.

  • There are two ways to reduce cement content for a given quality level(strength, workability etc.) in concrete. First, reducing the required paste volume by varying the shape or the grading of aggregates. Secondly, holding the paste volume constant while replacing cement volume with mineral admixtures or mineral fillers. And It will also be proved that the required minimum paste volume is independent of the paste composition, provided the paste composition is in a reasonable range. In this study, therefore, we have an object to determine the required minimum paste volume for a given workability level. For this purpose, we tried the following experiments: vary the paste volume for the three different grading of aggregates and determine the minimum paste volume to achieve a certain level of workability with high-range water reducing admixture.

  • The object of this study was to measure of the distortion of various dental waxes under condition simulating clinical usage. Eleven commercial product (table) including the inlay and baseplate waxes were tested, and compared in the study. Test specimens were prepared $5{\times}5{\times}65mm$. split brass mold. Placed this rod wax specimens and the brass wax distortion test mold into the water bath and tested the distortion values for waxes at $35^{\circ}C,\;40^{\cric}C,\;45^{\circ}C\;and\;50^{\circ}C$. Measured the distortion as the difference between the final (Df) and original (Do) distance between the ends of the specimen. Recorded Df, Do and Df-Do (Distortion) to the nearest 0.5mm. A minimum of five specimens were tested for each material. The following conclusions may be drawn from this study. 1) It can be seen that, a significant wax distortion was obtained with the temperature of forming the pattern, and the length of time and the temperature at which it was stored. 2) It was found that, when the storage time was increased, the wax distortion was correspondingly increased. At the sametime, the higher the storage time was employed, the distortion was obviously much greater. 3) It can be observed that the higher the temperature at which the wax was manipulated, the less was the resulting distortion upon storage.
