  • The breakup characteristics of liquid sheet formed by the liquid rocket injector has a close relation with the combustion efficiency. In this paper, basic characteristics of droplet size and velocity distribution were measured with PDPA for the Like Doublet Impinging Injector. Test variables were the angle of impact, the diameter of orifice and jet velocity. Water was used as test fluid. As a result, for impingement angle less than 90 degree, following correlations were obtained between drop size and design parameters : $D_{32}({\mu}m)=295.0{\times}V^{-0.09}\times(2\theta)^{-0.1}{\times}d^{0.072}$. For impingement angle greater than 100 degree, drop sizes were increased but eventually converged to a certain limiting value.

  • Prestressed concrete cylindrical pipe (PCCP) has been widely used for the distribution of water in communal, industrial, and agricultural systems for a long time. However, as it deteriorates, structural failures have been experienced. Replacing the entire existing PCCP with partial damages is not an economical method. Currently, as a cost effective repairing method, a new approach using fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) has been applied. A new design procedure of this method was proposed considering various kinds of loading condition. However, it is not easy to apply this method for design purpose due to its complex procedures. The objective of this study is to provide a new design criteria and process for PCCP rehabilitation with FRP. Through this method, the appropriate quantities of FRP layers will be decided after examining of limit states of deteriorated PCCP. For this purpose, two deterioration conditions are assumed; fully deteriorated and partially deteriorated. Different limit states for each case are applied to decide the quantities of attached FRP. The concept of "margin of safety" is used to judge whether the design results are within the optimal ranges to satisfy all limit states.

  • The satellite communication has been widely applied in the various fields included the remote monitoring and control system through the technical progress. In the star network that is a type of the satellite communication network, users can easily use an earth station because of the large scale and high power of the hub station. This type has many profits which are flexible of network configuration, and can conveniently and inexpensively supply various services which is used in the data acquisition and distribution by important communication means for construction of information society. Using these profits, the satellite communication system is applied to the unmaned remote operation field for the remote control and monitor of the water treatment plants But, ...

  • The cooling technology of power conversion semiconductors in the propulsion system for the HEMU(High Electrical Multi Unit) are applied in water cooling method and phase change method such as the immersed type and the heat pipe type. Both of cooling systems need a condenser and a fan through forced wind to emit that is radiated heat from electric power conversion semiconductor(IGBT) stack effectively, now in the case of Japanese Fastec 360S, is using ram-air that is flowed in establishing cooling passage to propulsion system for cooling of condenser. In this research, it is that achieved the computing numerical analysis using ADINA of commertial program to examine flow characteristics and pressure distribution of ram-air for a condenser in cooling passage.

  • This study was carried out to analyze the spray characteristics as a function of the operating parameters of urea injector used in Urea-SCR system of passenger diesel vehicle. Spray visualization and PDPA experiment were performed to analyze the macroscopic spray development and atomization performance of urea-water-solution. For the urea injector, the deformation of the spray head does not appear to be significant because it operates at a low pressure conditions, and the liquid core and primary droplet are observed throughout the operating conditions. No increase in atomization is seen when the operating pressure is increased, and the spray develops linearly due to poor atomization characteristics. The macroscopic spray behavior of the low-pressure urea injector is predictable through the modification of the Hiroyasu equation.

  • Based on the potential flow theory, a fully nonlinear numerical procedure is developed with boundary element method to analyze the interaction between a fixed semi-submersible platform and incident waves in open water. The incident wave is separated from the scattered wave under fully nonlinear boundary conditions. The mixed Euler-Lagrangian method is used to capture the position of the disturbed wave surface in local coordinate systems. The wave forces exerted on an inverted conical frustum are used to ensure the accuracy of the present method and good agreements with published results are obtained. The hydrodynamic characteristics of the semi-submersible platform interacting with regular waves are analyzed. Pressure distribution with time and space, tension and compression of the platform under wave action are investigated. 3D behaviors of wave run-ups are predicted. Strong nonlinear phenomena such as wave upwelling and wave interference are observed and analyzed.

  • In this study, the thickness of the liquid sheet formed by a low speed impinging jet onto a wall was measured by the direct contact method. The spatial distribution characteristics of the sheet thickness in the radial and circumferential directions, and the effects of jet velocity and liquid viscosity were analyzed. The measurement results were compared with the theoretical predictions for two impinging jets. The wavy surface was observed for low viscosity water, but not for high viscosity glycerol solutions. The sheet thickness decreased as the circumferential angle or the distance from the impinging point increased. The sheet thickness increased as the liquid viscosity increased. Comparison with the theoretical predictions showed some differences from the measurement results.

  • The riparian environments of urban streams in Korea have been disturbed through the channelization for flood control and artificial land use as well as water pollution and flow decrease due to industrialization and urbanization. The flora and vegetation structure were investigated and an implication of stream restoration was discussed for the conservation of biodiversity in the riparian area of the Seunggi stream in Incheon. Naturalized plants and ruderal plants were widely distributed in the riparian area which was disturbed from cultivating, trampling, dumping etc. Submerged and floating hydrophytes were not found in the stream due to channelization and water pollution. Some halophytes were remained in downstream and reservoir after reclamation and embankment. The communities of Humulus japonicus, Panicum dichotomiflorum, Digitaria sanguinalis, Artemisia montana, Amaranthus retroflexus, and Aster pilosus were distributed in the disturbed area of bank slope and floodplain in the stream. As a natural potential vegetation, Phragmites australis in the wet meadow, Typha latifolia, Typha angustifolia, Oenanthe javanica, Persicaria thunbergii, and Penthorum chinense in the marsh, and Salix babylonica and Salix matsudana for. tortuosa in the woodland appeared in the floodplain. The topography in the stream played an important role on the distribution of riparian vegetation in the Seunggi stream. Appropriate methods for conservation and restoration of the riparian ecosystems must be planned on the basis of the actual vegetation in the disturbed urban stream.

  • This study was carried out to settle the plugging problem which occurs frequently when agricultural wettable powder is used in pest control work using the crushing and the dispersing effects caused by irradiation of ultrasonic wave. Sonication was applied to the wettable powder suspension in a beaker for 30 seconds using a 28 kHz, 200 W PZT BLT, and the image of suspension before and after sonication was observed using a microscope and a SEM. The image of tow commercial wettable powder suspensions in water observed using an optics microscope showed that the agglomerated particles were irregularly distributed over the whole observed region when stirred mechanically, while showing more uniform distribution composed of comparatively single particles in the whole observed region after sonication. Concerning the above, the projected areas of particles in the four suspensions after sonication were decreased distinctively in the observed range of the microscope and the atomization of crystals was much developed. Over the measured range of 5.6∼4,157 ${\mu}$m particle size, the overall projected area of particles was decreased to 58.3∼89.6% on the average after sonication. When the SEM images of sonicated wettable powder suspensions dissolved in water and CH$_3$OH were compared to the suspensions before sonication, such phenomena as the atomization of particles, the expansion of voids between particles, the reduction and the decrease of agglomerated particle groups, and the progress of crack developments on the surface of flake-shaped particles were observed. It seemed possible that the plugging problem that occurs frequently in pest control machine when using wettable powder would be settled by the use of sonication.
