As an essential prerequisite for systematic and integrated management of river water, it is necessary to secure the basic data such as discharge supplied to the river and released from the river. Under the current permit system for river water use, 59.1% of licensed facilities were found to have no discharge meters in 2017, especially for agricultural water, which makes it difficult to secure reliable data as a large portion of the reports are voluntarily reported by users. In this study, the indirect discharge measurement method of calculating the discharge through the power usage of the pumping station was applied to secure reliable discharge data. In particular, focusing on the fact that the discharge calculated by the power usage method differed with the actual discharge according to the level of the river, the study was conducted on improving the power usage method reflecting the river water level and improving the accuracy of discharge data. Analysis of the discharge calculated using the power usage method considering river water level using the correlation analysis method such as regression analysis, percent difference, root mean square error etc. confirmed that the results are not high compared to the conventional power usage method, but are slightly more approximated to the actual discharge. Therefore, although reliable discharge data can be obtained from the existing power usage method, it is expected that more accurate data on intaking water of river water can be obtained if the improved power usage method is used at points where the variation in the water level of the river is large.
This study analyzed the hydraulic characteristics of a venturi flume with a circular cone using a 3-D numerical model which uses RANS(Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes Equation) as the governing equation. The venturi flume with the circular cone efficiently measures the discharge in the low-flow to high-flow range and offers the advantage of accurate discharge measurements in the case of a low flow. With no influence of the tail-water depth, the stage-discharge relationship and the flow behaviors were analyzed to verify the numerical simulation results. Additionally, this study reviewed the effect of the tail-water depth on the flow. The stage-discharge relationship resulting from a numerical simulation in the absence of an effect by the tail-water depth showed a maximum margin of error of 4 % in comparison to the result of a hydraulic experiment. The simulation results reproduced the overall flow behaviors observed in the hydraulic experiment well. The flow starts to become influenced by the tail-water depth when the ratio of the tail-water depth to the total head exceeds approximately 0.7. As the ratio increases, the effect on the flow tends to grow dramatically. As shown in this study, a numerical simulation is effective for identifying the stage-discharge relationship of a venturi flume with various types of venturi bodies, including a venturi flume with a circular cone.
The change of water discharge capability of sluice caisson for tidal power plant according to installation of the rubble mound was investigated by performing laboratory experiment. The experiment was carried out in an open channel flume with a great care to measure flow rate and water level in the flume accurately. Eight different sluice caisson models were used in the experiment. The water discharge capabilities of seven sluice models decreased with respect to the placement of the rubble mound, while increased for only one sluice model. On average, the values of discharge coefficient decreased by approximately 10% when the sluice models were placed on the rubble mound. It is concluded that the shape of the rubble mound can affect the water discharge capability of the sluice caisson, so that its shape should be significantly considered in the design of the sluice caisson, especially when it is deployed in a site of relatively deeper depth.

This study aimed to develop a plan for effective performance of a watershed through correct identification of a river watershed by using the flowrate of the river and water quality data, which is the basis for the establishment of the water environment policy. The target river for water quality improvement was selected based on the monitoring result for 4 water systems in Chungcheongnamdo province in the recent 3 years. The result of analysis for the distribution of discharge capacity by a pollution source group for the water quality improvement target river showed that most of the target river has a high discharge capacity in the water system for living and livestock. Analysis for the density of the total discharge capacity of the whole watershed of Chungcheongnamdo indicated that the river that needs water quality improvement has high BOD concentration and high discharge load density at the point that this river is located. Thus, for efficient watershed management through selection and concentration, Chungcheongnamdo needs to improve the target river in priority. Stepwise planning is also required to establish and execute the water quality improvement in order to satisfy said target water quality, and establish the index for the water improvement rate for its evaluation.
This study used POM (Princeton ocean model) improved for applying to coastal area in order to predict the distribution of thermal waste water. This model was applied to the coastal circulation and the effect of thermal waste water of Cheonsu-Bay. So this study compared the discharge of thermal waste water with each layer and section. The tidal current was about 1.5 m/sec at surface level and 0.9 m/sec on bottom level at flood tide; tidal current was about 1.3 m/sec on surface level and 0.8 m/sec on bottom level at ebb tide. The method discharging the thermal waste water in the nearshore region (case 1) accelerates the diffusion of the thermal waste water in the north-south direction(longshore direction). However, the method discharge the thermal waster water in the offshore region (case 2) reduced the diffusion of the thermal waste water over the coastal region. According th the diffusion region of the thermal waste water with case 1 and case 2 at three different layers (surface, middle, bottom), the diffusion region by case 1 discharge method generally influenced wider region (twice) than the one by case 2 discharge method with lower temperature between $1^{\circ}C\;and\;2^{\circ}C$, whereas the case 2 discharge method influenced the deeper region (middle and botton layers) with higher change of the water temperature ($1{\sim}3^{\circ}C$).

There is a big difference of discharge rate between drought and flood period in Korea since the importance of water resources management has come to the fore. To know a river characteristics, it needs to estimate river discharge accurately. River discharge is calculated using the measured velocity of cross section and the estimated area of watercourse as input parameters into continuity equation. Generally, flow rate over a river is estimated from the relation equation between level and discharge, in this case, there are weakness for only the equal depths and the equal discharge estimated. In the present study, therefore, water surface slope was estimated using measured water level of Seongseo water level observation station and measured water level using ADVM at Gangchang Bridge. And then, we developed the discharge calculation equation using water surface slope. A method to easily calculated flow rate from the measured depth of the two points that are suggested by reflecting water surface slope because natural stream is unsteady flow, not uniform flow or not steady flow.

There are demands for water environmental analysis of discharge processes in paddy fields, however, it is not fully understood in nutrients discharge process for watershed modeling. As hydrological processes both surface and ground water and agricultural water managements are so complex in paddy fields, the development of lowland paddy fields watershed model is more difficult than upland watershed model. In this research, the improvement of SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model for a paddy watershed was conducted. First, modification of surface inundated process was developed in improved pot hole option. Those modification was evaluated by monitoring data. Second, the monitoring data in river and drainage channel in lowland paddy fields from 2012 to 2014 were analyzed to understand discharge characteristics. As a case study, Imbanuma basin, Japan, was chosen as typical land and water use in Asian countries. In this basin, lowland paddy fields are irrigated from river water using small pumps that were located in distribution within the watershed. Daily hydrological fluctuation was too complex to estimate. Then, to understand surface and ground water discharge characteristics in irrigation (Apr-Aug) and non-irrigation (Sep-Mar) period, the water and material balance analysis was conducted. The analysis was composed two parts, watershed and river channel blocks. As results of model simulation, output was satisfactory in NSE, but uncertainty was large. It would be coming from discharge process in return water. The river water and ground water in paddy fields were exchanged each other in 5.7% and 10.8% to river discharge in irrigation and non-irrigation periods, respectively. Through this exchange, nutrient loads were exchanged between river and paddy fields components. It suggested that discharge from paddy fields was not only responded to rainfall but dynamically related with river water table. In general, hydrological models is assumed that a discharge process is one way from watershed to river. However, in lowland paddy fields, discharge process is dynamically changed. This function of paddy fields showed that flood was mitigated and temporally held as storage in ground water. Then, it showed that water quality was changed in mitigated function in the water exchange process in lowland paddy fields. In future, it was expected that hydrological models for lowland paddy fields would be developed with this mitigation function.
This study estimates the pollution load in a basin by regional groups analyzing the relationship between the discharge and pollution load. The study area is placed in the Miho stream basin known as the main tributary of the Kum river. Four major Telemetary streamflow stations are chosen. In this research, discharge and water quality in a dry season and a flood season from the observed discharge in the stream are analyzed. The Rating-Curve and the Pollutograph are drawn analyzing discharge and water quality at the major stations. The characteristics of runoff for each stream are analyzed and the change of water quality are analyzed for rainfall period. The relationship between discharge and water quality has been investigated. The relationship between the discharge and pollution load is analyzed and a representative equation is derived. These relationships permit an estimates of the pollution load at the Miho stream basin. basin.
Water quality, benthic macroinvertebrate communities, and other factors were investigated to explore the effects of the effluent discharge from a sewage treatment plant into Jwagwang stream in Busan in 2019. During the study period, the flow rate of this stream was in the range of 10,400 m3/day to 52,200 m3/day except for the discharge of about 24,000 m3/day of the effluent. After discharge, the flow velocity increased by about 65% and the water depth increased by about 40%. At sites downstream of the discharge point, BOD, COD, TOC, T-N, T-P, and other water quality values were worse than those of the upstream sites. The periphytic algal chlorophyll-a concentrations in the natural substrata were higher than those of the upstream sites, especially in May and August. However, at sites downstream of the discharge point, the individual numbers of Annelida were decreased and individual numbers of the insecta of arthropoda were increased. Also, species numbers and the diversity and dominance indexes were improved in the sites downstream of the discharge point. The functional feeding groups (FFGs) of collector-filterers were increased and the habitat orientation groups (HOGs) of sprawlers, burrowers, and clingers were especially increased at the sites with additional reclaimed wastewater effluent flow. Regardless of the effluent discharge, BMI, an indicator of ecological stream health using benthic macroinvertebrate species, did not show large gaps between the study points. Although the water quality of the sites downstream of the discharge point was much worse than those upstream, their ecosystem soundness was better than those of the upstream sites from an ecological perspective.

To understand the chemical changes in the streamwater and contribution of subsurface discharge during the storm event, we analyzed electric conductivity (EC), anions, and cations in Gwangneung deciduous and coniferous forest catchment. The stream water samples were collected three times in 2004 by using an auto-sampler: September 7-9 (E040907-D and -C; where D and C indicate deciduous and coniferous forest catchment, respectively), September 11-13 (E040911-D and -C), and September 16-18 (E040916-D and -C). We found a negative relationship between discharge intensity and EC in streamwater. The E040911 and E040916 showed slack change of stream discharge in comparison to E040907 due to contribution of base flow recharged by much precipitation. Moreover, NO/sub 3//sup -/ concentrations in E040911-C were highest, which may have resulted from forest management such as thinning in 2004. The relationship between pH and alkalinity in stream water showed that much of stream water have been recharged through subsurface. We conclude that subsurface discharge highly influences streamwater quality in a forested catchment, and the seperation of stream water discharge is therefore necessary to sustainable water management.
