  • The service life of coal gangue concrete(CGC) strongly depends on the capillary water absorption, this water absorption is susceptible to freeze-thaw cycles. In this paper, the cumulative water absorption and sorptivity were obtained to study the effects of 0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 % steel fiber volume fraction added on the water absorption of CGC. Sorptivity and freeze-thaw tests were conducted, and the capillary water absorption was evaluated by the rate of water absorption(sorptivity). Three prediction models for the initial sorptivity of steel fiber reinforced coal gangue concrete(SFRCGC) under freeze-thaw cycles were established to evaluate the capillary water absorption of SFRCGC. Results showed that, without freeze-thaw cycles, the water absorption of CGC decreased when steel fiber at 1.0 % volume fraction was added, however, the water absorption increased with the addition of 0.5 or 1.5 % steel fibers. Once the SFRCGC specimens were exposed to freeze-thaw cycles, the water absorption of SFRCGC significantly increased, and 1.0 % steel fiber in volume fraction added to CGC caused the lowest water absorption, except for the case of the sample without steel fibers added. The CGC with steel fiber at 1.0 % volume fraction performed better. The SFRCGC has a strong response to freeze-thaw cycles. Results also showed that the linear function prediction model is practical in the field of engineering because of its simple form and a relatively high precision. Although the polynomial prediction model presents the highest computation precision among the three models, the complicated form and too many coefficients make it impractical for engineering applications.

  • This paper describes a computer simulation of the triple effect, water-lithium bromide absorption cooling cycles. The performance of the absorption systems is investigated through cycle simulation to obtain the system characteristics with the cooling water inlet temperature, the working solution concentrations, the ratio of the amount of the weak solution to the high, middle and low temperature generators, and the temperature difference of each solution heat exchanger. The efficiency of different cycles has been studied and the simulation results show that higher coefficient of performance could be obtained for the parallel cycle of constant solution distribution rate. As a result of this analysis, the optimum designs and operating conditions were determined based on the operating conditions and coefficient of performance.

  • The gas-fired absorption refrigeration system to utilize treated sewage is available for environmental protection and energy conservation. Simulation analysis on the double-effect absorption refrigeration cycles with parallel or series flow type has been performed. The working fluid is Lithium Bromide and water solution. The main purpose of this study is evaluating the possibilities of effective utilization of treated sewage as a cooling water for the absorber and condenser. The efficiency of a couple of cycles has been studied and simulation results show that higher coefficient of performance could be obtained for parallel flow type. The other purpose of the present study is to determine the optimum designs and operating conditions based on the operating constraints and the coefficent of performance in the paralledl flow type.

  • Woven sisal textile reinforced composites were manufactured to evaluate fracture toughness, and tensile test. All specimens were immersed in water five times. All specimens are immersed in pure water during 9 days at room temperature, and dried in 1 day at $50^{\circ}C$. Two kinds of polymer matrices such as epoxy and vinyl-ester were used. Fractured surface were investigated to study the failure mechanism and fiber/matrix interfacial adhesion. It is shows that it can be enhanced to improve their mechanical performance to reveal the relationship between fracture toughness and water absorption fatigue according to different polymer matrices. Water uptake of the epoxy composites was found to increase with cycle times. Mechanical properties are dramatically affected by the water absorption cycles. Water-absorbed samples observed poor mechanical properties such as lower values of maximum strength and extreme elongation. The $K_{IC}$ values demonstrate a decrease in inclination with increasing cyclic times of wetting and drying fur the epoxy and vinyl-ester.

  • This study describes the results of Coefficient Of Performance(COP) analysis by cycle simulation for two types of absorption-compression hybride cycle using the water/Lithium Bromide solution pair, These types are basic hybride systems introducing a mechanical compression process into the refrigerant vapor phase of the single effect absorption cycle. In absorption-compression hybrid cycles, coefficient of performance is improved compared with absorption cycle. Hybride cycle Type ll is considered as a key technology to support energy utilization system, given its capability of utilizing waste heat to drive system with a high level of efficiency.

  • This paper presents a computer simulation of five types of triple effect absorption cycles employ-ing the refrigerant absorbent combinations of NH3/LiNO3 low-pressure type NH3/LiNO3+H2O/LiBr binary two-stage type series flow cycle and two types of parallel flow cycle for H2O/LiBr. The absorption systems is investigated through cycle simulation to obtain the system characteristics with the cooling water inlet temperature approach temperature of absorber loss temperature of absorber and chilled water outlet temperature. The most important characteristic temperature of absorber and chilled water outlet temperature. The most important characteristic of NH3/LiNO3 low-pressure type and a NH3/LINO3+H2O/LiBr binary two-stage type is that it obtains a coefficient of performance higher than the sum of the performance coefficients of its part operating independently. As a result of this analysis the optimum designs and operating conditions were determined based on the operating conditions and the coefficient of performance.

  • The objective of this paper is to experimentally study the consolidation of saturated silty clay subjected to repeated heating-cooling cycles using a modified temperature-controlled triaxial apparatus. Focus is placed on the influence of the water content, confining pressure, and magnitudes and number of thermal loading cycles. The experimental results show that the thermally induced pore pressure increases with increasing water content and magnitude of thermal loading in undrained conditions. After isothermal consolidation at an elevated temperature, the pore pressure continues to decrease and gradually falls below zero during undrained cooling, and the maximum negative pore pressure increases as the water content decreases or the magnitude of thermal loading increases. During isothermal consolidation at ambient temperature after one heating-cooling cycle, the pore pressure begins to rise due to water absorption and finally stabilizes at approximately zero. As the number of thermal loading cycles increases, the thermally induced pore pressure shows a degrading trend, which seems to be more apparent under a higher confining pressure. Overall, the specimens tested show an obvious volume reduction at the completion of a series of heating-cooling cycles, indicating a notable irreversible thermal consolidation deformation.
