This paper represents mechanical compliance & ZMP(Zero Moment Point) control algorithm for IWR(Inha Walking Robot) system. In case of walking in different environments, a biped walking robot must vary its gait(walking period or step length, etc.) according to the environments. However, most of biped walking robots do not have the capability to change their gaits or need more complex control algorithm, because ZMP cannot be defined in their control algorithm. Therefore new linear type with balancing joint is proposed which is used as an aid in balancing & ZMP control itself. In IWR system, ZMP can be defined by solving differential equations and it does not need to be predefined ZMP trajectory. Furthermore we can input the desired ZMP position. In parallel with the development, we also considered a mechanical compliance for reducing the inverse kinematics, dynamics and the control complexity. It will figure out some powerful adaptation with 3D irregular terrains.
In this paper, a humanoid robot is simulated and implemented to walk up a staircase using the blending polynomial and genetic algorithm. Using recently developed kinematics for a biped robot, four schemes for walking up a staircase are newly proposed and simulated separately. For the two schemes of landing a swaying leg on the upper stair, the joint trajectories of seven motors are particularly optimized to generate an energy-minimal motion with the guarantee of walking stability. The proposed scheme of walking upstair is validated by an experiment with a small humanoid robot.
This paper presents the kinematics of a walking robot leg based on Jansen mechanism. By using simple mathematics, all trajectories of walking robot leg links can be calculated. A foot point trajectory is used to evaluate the performance of a walking robot leg. Trial and Error method is used to find a best combination of link lengths under certain restrictions. All simulations are performed by Matlab. Ground score, drag score, step size, foot lift, instant speed, and average speed of foot point trajectories are used for selecting the best one.
This paper is concerned with a balancing motion formulation and control of the ZMP (Zero Moment Point) for a biped-walking robot that has a prismatic balancing weight or a revolute balancing weight. The dynamic stability equation of a walking robot which have a prismatic balancing weight is conditionally linear but a walking robot's stability equation with a revolute balancing weight is nonlinear. For a stable gait, stabilization equations of a biped-walking robot are modeled as non-homogeneous second order differential equations for each balancing weight type, and a trajectory of balancing weight can be directly calculated with the FDM (Finite Difference Method) solution of the linearized differential equation. In this paper, the 3dimensional graphic simulator is developed to get and calculate the desired ZMP and the actual ZMP. The operating program is developed for a real biped-walking robot IWRⅢ. Walking of 4 steps will be simulated and experimented with a real biped-walking robot. This balancing system will be applied to a biped humanoid robot, which consist legs and upper body, as a future work.
This paper deals with the gait generation of Biped Walking Robot (IWR-III) to have a continuous walking pattern like human. For this, trajectory planning with the consideration of kick action is done in each walking step, and the coordinate transformation is done for simplifying the kinematics. The trunk moves continuously for all walking time and moves toward Z-axis. Balancing motion is acquired by FDM(Finite Difference Method) during the walking. By combining 4-types of pre-defined steps, multi-step walking is done. Using numerical simulator, dynamic analysis and system stability is confirmed. Walking motion is visualized by 3D-Graphic simulator. As a result, the motion of balancing joints can be reduced by the trunk ahead effect during kick action, and impactless smooth walking is implemented by the experiment.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare plantar pressure distribution between affected side and unaffected side and to analyze plantar pressure distribution of affected side according to the extent of hemineglect in the adult hemiplegia. Methods : Twenty-five hemiplegia participated in this study. The analysis of plantar pressure distribution was conducted by the F-scan system, and the extent of hemineglect was evaluated with line-bisection test. While the subject walked about 10 meters in their comfortable speed the plantar pressure was evaluated and stored. Results : Total contact area, AP CoP trajectory, contact pressure of mid-foot of the affected side were significantly different from the unaffected side. Total contact area, AP CoP trajectory and contact pressure of mid-foot were smaller than those of unaffected side. In the comparison among the group according to the extent of hemineglect, AP CoP trajectory of subject who has severe hemineglect was significantly different from the patient that has no hemineglect and it was shorter than that of no hemineglect. Conclusion : The plantar pressure distribution was generally different between affected side and unaffected side and the hemineglect affected negatively the patient to move CoP forwardly while walking. Accordingly, it will help the clinician to understand the hemineglect which has an effect on abnormal walking and to intervent the hemiplegia who has a neglection to the affected side.
The purpose of this paper is to accomplish the stable humanoid robot walking on the soft terrains. The goal of the humanoid robot development is to make the robotic system perform some tasks in human living environment. However, human dwelling environments are very different from those of laboratories, where varied experiments are performed by the robot. In many cases, the ground is soft or elastic unlike the floor of a laboratory. When a robot walks on the soft ground, the sole of robot contacts the uneven ground. This results in unstable walking or walking may be impossible according to the degree of softness. Therefore, the algorithm that facilitates stable walking on the soft ground surface is required. In this paper, we suggest an algorithm that controls the ankle to help the robot walk stably on the soft ground using the humanoid robot (ISHURO-II) as a real model. A humanoid robot walking on the soft ground was simulated to verify that the proposed algorithm results in stable walking.
This paper presents reference ZMP trajectory generation and implementation for a biped robot via linear inverted dumbbell model (LIDM), which can consider the effect of external momentum on the center of mass (COM) of robot. Based on a reference ZMP trajectory derived by using LIDM, a base trajectory is proposed not only to make the locomotion of robot similar to that of human but also to facilitate its implementation and tuning. In order to realize a dynamic walking using the proposed trajectory, compliance, impedance and ZMP tracking controllers are adopted together. Extensive experiments show that the proposed locomotion of a biped robot is stable and also, similar to that of human. Further researches on balance recovery of a biped robot will be carried out to guarantee its robust locomotion in combination with the proposed trajectory.
Many locomotion purpose robots are being built and are under research such as mobile manipulator and biped humanoid robot, etc. Dynamic posture stability of these robots is based on the ZMP point. For getting stable ZMP trajectory, some method has been developed but is too complex and time consuming which leads to inability in generating on-line ZMP trajectory. In this paper, we give a qualitative study about behavior of ZMP in biped walking robot through visualization. This result gives intuitive understanding about behavior of ZMP under various robot state.
