Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate tibialis anterior muscle fatigue through a Nordic walking when using pole. Methods: This study subject was 38 people who were twenties and randomly assigned to a control group with standard walking and Nordic walking group with Nordic walking. All subjects examined muscle fatigue with surface EMG and visual analogue scale for fatigue. The data were analyzed with SPSS window 18.0 program using ANCOVA. Results: The results were of a significant changes to the both tibialis anterior fatigue(p<0.01). The visual fatigue scales weren't significant difference. Conclusion: It was found that Dool-re-gil (Mt. Ji-Ri) was effective for muscle fatigue during walking, and it appears that it could be used clinically. So it is anticipated that improvement in clinical utilization for the people who's through a Nordic walking when using pole.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of an overweight control exercise program on body composition and blood lipids. Method: This comparative study was conducted at an elementary school in Seoul, Korea. Pre and post body weight, BMI, PBF, and obesity degree as body composition and TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, and TG as blood lipids were tested. The aerobic exercise lasted 12 weeks from April to July, 2006. A total of 168 overweight 3rd grade to 5th grade school children attended and were divided into a walking exercise group (n=68) and a rope jumping exercise group (n=38). Data were analysed using SAS 8.12. Result: At the end of the program, the participation rate was higher in the rope jumping exercise group than in the walking exercise group. Body weight, BMI, PBF, obesity degree, TC, and LDL-C were lower than those before the program, and HDL-C was higher than before the program. Conclusion: The school-based overweight control exercise program was effective. Because of the participation rate was higher in the rope jumping exercise group than in the walking exercise group, rope jumping exercise is recommended for low grade children.
In this paper, we introduce a case study of developing a miniature humanoid robot that has 16 degrees of freedom and is able to perform statically stable walking. The developed humanoid robot is 37cm tall and weighs 1,200g. RC servo motors are used as actuators. The robot can walk forward and turn to any direction on even surface. It equipped with a small digital camera, so it can transmit vision data to a remote host computer via wireless modem. The robot can be operated in two modes; One is a remote-controlled mode, in which the robot behaves according to the command given by a human operator through the user-interface program running on a remote host computer, the other is a stand-alone mode, in which the robot behaves autonomously according to the pre-programmed strategy. The user-interface program also contains a robot graphic simulator that is used to produce and verify the robot's gait motion. In our walking algorithm, the ankle joint is mainly used lot balancing the robot. The experimental results shows that the developed robot can perform statically stable walking on even surface.

Based on the Jansen mechanism theory, a walking robot is developed, which is able to overcome the given obstacles. Taking joint positions and leg directions as design parameters, the walking robot is analyzed. In order to analyze and optimize the leg motion, Edison program and Jansen mechanism optimization solver are used, respectively. It is found that Edison program is so effective to determine joint variables and position of leg direction. With the help of these programs, lots of trials or errors could be saved.
Recently, the ratio of elderly in the population are fast growing due to socio-economical development and the better medical service. Proportionally, the health problems in elderly are increasing, too. Medical professionals must try so that the elderly have the better life through health promotion and disease prevention as well as disease treatment. This study evaluated the effect of walking exercise program on the cardiorespiratory function and the flexibility in the elderly women. The design of research was one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were eleven elderly women over sixty years old to live in K-city, Kyonggi-do. The type of exercise was walking, which was the most popular exercise in questionnaire. The exercise intensity was 40%∼60% of the target heart-rate by Karvonen's method and maintained by the heart-rate monitor. The exercise period was five weeks and the exercise frequency was three times per week. The exercise duration was forty minutes at first and gradually increased up to an hour. In order to evaluate the effect of walking exercise, we measured VO/sub₂ max, resting heart -rate, systolic/diastolic blood pressure, FVC, FEV/sub₁, the flexibility before and after the five week's exercise program. The data are analyzed by the paired t-test and Wilcoxon signed rank test using SAS package. The results are as follows : 1) The hypothesis that cardiorespiratory function will be improved was partly supported. In VO/sub₂ max(p=0.0001), resting heart-rate(p=0.0030), systolic/diastolic blood-pressure(p=0.0387/ p=0.0024), there was significant difference. FVC and FEV/sub₁ were increased after the exercise, but there were no significant difference. 2) The hypothesis that the flexibility will be improved was supported. There was significant difference in the flexibility(p=0.0140). As the further study, it is necessary to reevaluate the effect with more refined design. We also need to try meta-analysis about the results of previous studies obtained in the experimental setting and compare our result obtained in the field setting with them.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine if an exercise program with vertical vibration can improve balance, walking speed, muscle strength and falls efficacy in the healthy elderly. METHODS: A total of 28 elderly were randomly divided into two groups: vertical vibration exercise group (exercise with vertical vibration) (N = 14) and control group (exercise without vibration) (N = 14). The exercise program, comprising calf raise, deep-squat, semi-squat, front lunge, and leg abduction was conducted with or without vibration, respectively. Subjects in each group participated in the 30 minutes training program, 2 times per week for 6 weeks. In both groups, the balance evaluation system (BT4) was used to evaluate standing balance, and walking speed was measured using the 10MWT. The manual muscle test system was applied to evaluate the knee extensor and ankle planter flexor muscle strength of the subjects, whereas the Korean falls efficacy scale (K-FES) evaluated the falls efficacy. RESULTS: After intervention, the vertical vibration group showed significantly higher changes compared to the control group, in the parameters of standing balance (P < .05), 10MWT (P < .05), left knee extensor (P < .05), right knee extensor (P < .01), both ankle plantar flexors (P < .05), and K-FES (P < .05). CONCLUSION: The exercise program with vertical vibration has the potential to improve balance, walking speed, muscle power and falls efficacy in the elderly.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of a 8-week compound exercise and a home-based walking exercise on body composition, perceived health status, and stress of nursing students. Methods: A non-equivalent control group design with pre-post test was employed. Participants, having BMI below 23 and Percent Body Fat above 26%, were assigned to three groups; 21 for the compound exercise(A), 26 for the walking exercise(B), and 23 for the control group. For data analysis, ANOVA in SPSS was used. Results: Body Fat Mass(kg), Visceral Fat Area(cm2), and Percent Body Fat(%) of both group A and B were significantly decreased. Lean Body Mass(kg) and Fitness Score of both group A and B were significantly increased in comparing with the control group. Especially the score of PBF(%) in group A was significantly decreased than the group B. The perceived physical health status in both group A and B was significantly increased. Conclusion: Both 8-week compound exercise and walking exercise were effective in enhancing BFM(kg), VFA($cm^2$), PBF(%), LBM(kg), Fitness Score and perceived physical health status. Especially the Compound exercise program was much more effective in decreasing PBF(%) than the walking exercise program.
Purpose: This purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a walking exercise program on blood pressure and related factors in older patients with hypertension living in rural areas. Method: The participants were 233 patients with hypertension, 60years or age or over, who were registered at one of 36 public health centers in North Chung Cheong Province and agreed to participate in this study. This paper presents optimal walking trajectory generation for a quadruped robot with genetic-fuzzy algorithm. In order to move a quadruped robot smoothly, both generations of optimal leg trajectory and free walking are required. Generally, making free walking is difficult to realize for a quadruped robot, because the patterned trajectory may interfere in the free walking. In this paper, we suggest the generation method for the leg trajectory satisfied with free walking pattern so as to avoid obstacle and walk smoothly. We generate via points of leg with respect to body motion, and then we use the genetic-fuzzy algorithm to search for the optimal via velocity and acceleration information of legs. All these methods are verified with PC simulation program, and implemented to SERO-V robot.
