  • The purpose of this study is to provide specific size data for developing a standard dress form for Korean Females between the ages of 18 and 29. Differences in sizes between dress forms used in 18-24 year-old target brands and 25-29 year-old target brands and the human body were ascertained through direct anthropometric measurements. In the 18-24 year-old target brands. 83.0-83.8cm is suitable for the bust circumference of the dress form, while in the 25-29 year-old target brands, 85.0-86.0cm is suitable. The waist circumferences of most dress forms are similar except for the Japanese C form, and there is no difference between the two groups. For hip circumference in the 18-24 year-old target brands, about 90.0cm is suitable while the 25-29 year-old target brands use additional dress forms of 91.0-92.0cm. The center front length, neck tc waist length, and front interscye breadth is 1cm shorter and the back interscye breadth is 1cm longer than indicated by the 1997 National Anthropometric Survey data.

  • This study is to increase the efficiency for the suitability of clothing measurement and the production utility factors by setting up the measurement system with middle-aged men's physical characteristics. For this purpose this study measured the body sizes of middle-aged men and analyzed basic sizing items such as drop, height, and bust according to the ISO and KS systems and classified these sizes based on body shapes and heights. As a result, an internationally-compatible measuring system is presented in this study. The most common body shapes are portly (Drop 6) and regular (Drop 12) types and these two types form $74.7\%$. The height of 164cm$(31.2\%)$ and 170cm$(38.2\%)$ cover $69.4\%$; and the most general sizes of busts are 92, 96 and 100 and these sizes occupy $74.7\%$. In consideration of the ranges of height and bust, the general sizes (7 regular types and 9 portly types) are selected to present the standardized measurements; the mark for the top is height-bust-waist and the mark for the bottom is stature-waist-hip.

  • In this study, we analyzed the figure type and lower-body size of Shanghai and Hong Kong adult women in their early twenties using the data obtained from 3D whole body scanners. We also provided concrete information related to women's lower bodies, in terms of crotch width, crotch length, inseam, outseam, slope of waist, etc., among women in Shanghai and Hong Kong. The result may be useful to the Chinese apparel industry when designing trouser pants for adult women. According to the results of the factor analysis for categorizing the body shape of the lower half, 5 factors were obtained: obesity of the lower half factor, height of the lower half factor, length from waist to the crotch factor, factor related to legs, and shape of the abdomen factor. After performing a cluster analysis according to the factor analysis, three clusters were set: Cluster 1 was represented as the lower half growth type, which has a high value in height of the lower half factor and grows in the abdomen part. Cluster 2 was represented as thin legs type, which has a low value in most part compared to the length of leg bones and factors about legs that have high value. Cluster 3 was represented as the obesity type having a high value in the obesity of the lower half factor. Overall, thin legs type achieved a high rate in Shanghai adult women and obesity type received a high rate in adult women living in Hong Kong.

  • This study analyzes the somatotype of tall stature Korean women's lower body for proper slack patterns. The study subjects consist of 350 statures over 165cm in 18-59 aged women's of Size Korea 2010. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan test were used for analysis using SPSS 19.0. The result are as follows: Factor 1 was the horizontal dimension of waist and hip, factor 2 was the vertical dimension of lower body, factor 3 was the horizontal dimension of the lower limbs, factor 4 was the crotch length, and factor 5 was the horizontal dimension of hip. The lower body was divided into 3 types based on analysis of the above factors. Type 1 (46.6%) represented stout type with a thick and medium length of crotch and leg. Type 2 (22.7%) represented a curve type from waist to hip with long crotch length, while short and thin leg. Type 3 (30.7%) was referred as slender type, with short crotch length, while long and thin leg.

  • This study identifies methods to design patterns for jeans that are suitable for women in their twenties. Five patterns suggested by previous researchers were used to draw the same size of jeans (waist 67 and hip 91). The author compared and analyzed the measurements and shapes of the patterns, ranging from waist to crotch. Samples were produced based on these patterns and then tests were conducted to observe the dynamic functions and exteriors of the samples. The dynamic functions observed in this study include walking, ascending stairs, descending stairs and sitting on chairs. The results of the current study are as follow. The best evaluated pattern in terms of exteriors is the one where the hips and thighs are tightest compared to other patterns and where the back part is wider than the front part. This pattern also received high evaluations in dynamic functions due to comfort when walking. Regarding ascending or descending stairs, the tests found that all its parts (except the front crotch) are more comfortable than those of any other patterns. All these results show that a comfortable fit and easy movement is possible when the crotch width of the back is broader than the hip width so that the hips are comfortably supported.

  • Adjustment of clothing pressure for compression wear is critical to the physiological and psychological satisfaction of the wearer; however, there are limited studies on the practical relationship among extensibility of materials, pattern reduction of compression wear and resultant clothing pressure. This study provides consumers and designers with information on clothing pressure using a screening extensibility test suggested by Ziegert and Keil (1988) even for the final products. As the first step, ten commercial products were collected and their size, extensibility and corresponding clothing pressure were analyzed. It was found that clothing pressure around the waist level could be predicted well from the information of Ziegert and Keil's (1988) % extensibility of the material (Z stretch %) and the actual application of Z stretch amount to the pattern reduction rate (applied % of Z stretch), with an $r^2$ of around 0.80, especially at the waist level. However, it was not simple for the case of clothing pressure around the back of the chest level due to the various design variation and the complexity of the anatomical structure around the trapezius.

  • For fit satisfaction evaluation, the subjects were asked to put on the jackets from the seven manufacturers in random order, view how the jackets fit in a full-body mirror and answer questions regarding fitting in 22 specific areas, including the neck, shoulders, waist, hips and arms, as well as eight questions related to maneuverability. The surveys and evaluations were conducted between October 2007 and November 2008, and the compiled data were analyzed using the SPSS 14.0 statistics program. The One-way analysis of variance was performed to comparatively analyze the differences among the products from the seven manufacturers. Post-hoc tests were performed based on Duncan's test for the criteria that displayed significant differences. The results were summarized as follows. Fit evaluations were performed for the size 88 formal jackets from the seven manufacturers. All items, except the center front line, displayed significant differences at p<0.05 or higher among the manufacturers. The age group 20-39 felt that the main problems were in the shoulder, armscye, upper arm, waist, abdomen and hip areas. Modifying the shoulder area, armscye depth and hip areas severely compromises the jacket's balance, and attention to these areas must be given developed pattern design.

  • This study aims at presenting the basic data related to the somatotype of elderly men at the point of Korea's entering into an aging society. Efforts were made to classify the lower-half somatotype of elderly men, with the application of the measurements of 261 elderly men of 60 years of age and over up to 70, which were available from the physique measurement survey project for Koreans. The number of analysis items was 31. The statistical treatment was made through SPSS win 12.0 program, and the analytical methods used were the basic statistics, factor analysis, and cluster analysis. The findings are as follows: Elderly men experienced the decreases in height and weight, in comparison with middle-aged ones, while they showed a flat shape at trunk, with more protruded waist and abdomen and with flat buttock. The analysis of the constituting factors for the lower-half body of elderly men resulted in the 6 items. The elements constituting the lower-half body of elderly men included the shape from waist to hip, the spread of hip and height of knee, the shape of leg, thigh size, the length of leg, and the volume of abdominal. The total accountability was 81.59 %. The cluster analysis for lower-half somatotype of elderly men resulted in the classification of three types. The above findings are intended to assist the designing of ready-made slacks with a high level of fitness for elderly men.
