In this study, satisfaction with salary of the clerical saff in health care organization was analyzed with a view to provide data contributive to efficient wage management for the clerical staff of hospitals. For the analysis, it was investigated if there is any difference in satisfaction with wage depending on the individual and environmental characters as well as comparative factors perceived by self or by others in-and outside the working place. The findings of the analysis may be summed up as follows: First, in support of the hypothesis that the satisfaction with wage of the clerical staff in hospitals will individual factors, statistically significant difference were found in the satisfaction with wage depending on age and career, but there was little significant difference depending on gender and education. Thus, the hypothesis I in this study can be partly adopted. Second, with regard to the hypothesis that the satisfaction with wage of the clerical staff in hospitals will vary with environmental variables, significant differences were found in terms of comparative factors perceived by self or by others inside the working place and those perceived by others outside the working place, and significant difference was also shown in the comparative factors perceived by others outside the working place. Whereas, however, there was no significant difference in the satisfaction with wage depending on the position, which led to the partial adoption of the hypothesis II. This study has following limits in search of difference in satisfaction with wage of clerical staff in hospital depending on individual and environmental variables: the sample is too small to represent the general wage level satisfaction of the whole health care organizations, since the survey hasn't covered the wage level and management of the employees in all hospitals; the professional attitude and rate of fluctuation that are closely connected with the wage level are not considered.
Background: The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the income support allowance policy for the care workers on wage level. Methods: The analysis data was constructed using database (DB) of long-term care institution, DB of long-term care personnel status, and DB of health insurance qualification and contribution possessed by National Health Insurance Services. We analyzed the wage status of care workers 2009 to 2016 through basic analysis. We used the difference-in-difference analysis method for the workers who worked in the same institution from 2012 to 2013, The effects of the income allowance policy on wage increase were analyzed. Results: As a result of the net effect of the income support allowance policy, the monthly average wage of the care worker increased by 25,676 won and the hourly wage increased by 478 won. As a result of the analysis, it can be confirmed that the income support allowance policy has achieved some of the goals of raising the wage level of the care workers, and the effect of raising wages for other occupations in the long-term care business can be confirmed. Conclusion: The low wage problem of long-term care workers such as care workers is not the only problem in Korea. In other countries, there are various wage support policies for employees. In particular, it is necessary to refer to the improvement in the treatment of care workers in Japan and wage pass-through in the United States. In addition to wages, there is a need to promote policies to provide employment motivation through efforts to improve their social status and improve their job status and career development for employees in long-term care facilities.
Using KRIVET's Graduates Economic Activities Survey for 2005, this article examines the relationship between university ranking and labor market outcome, with a focus on wage differentials existing between provincial and Seoul metropolitan area university graduates. According to the analysis results, the average monthly wage for provincial university graduates was 1,747.7 thousand Korean won, which is 11.5% lower than that for graduates of universities in the Seoul metropolitan area. School effects on individual wage were estimated to about 12.2% after applying Hierarchical Linear Model technique, which means that university explains only an insignificant part of the total variance in wage among graduates. After controlling for the selection bias, the ability difference between the two areas, by applying the Heckman type 2SLS wage function and Neumark wage differential decomposition technique, the wage gap resulting from the segregation was not identified. This implies that, to a significant extent, the wage gap between provincial and Seoul metropolitan university graduates is attributed to the difference in productivity among individual graduates, rather than to the wage segregation. Also, the estimated wage function by applying Quantile Regression technique indicates that there does not exist any significant wage segregation difference by wage quantile.
Using the fourth data of the Korea Labor and Income Panel Study (KLIPS), this paper analyzed sexual differences in the promotion possibility and the promotion experience. Effects on wage of the promotion possibility and the promotion experience have been also discussed in detail. The promotion probability of a male worker in his current job is as high as twice than that of a female worker after controlling other independent variables. However, if we restrict the analysis to workers who either can be or was promoted, the sexual difference in the promotion possibility is greatly narrowed. This result suggests that the continuous career development without disruption is critical for the promotion of female workers. Analysing the sexual difference in wage using Oaxaca and Ransom's methodology, explanatory variables, such as human capital, residential area, etc., explained 69.5% of wage difference between male and female workers. Especially, 13.9% of wage difference was contributed to sexual differences in the promotion possibility and the promotion experience. This kind of empirical result emphasized once again the importance of promotion on wage.
This paper investigates the impact of the effective minimum wage, defined as the log difference between the minimum and the median wages, on wage inequalities in the OECD countries. Unlike the previous studies that focus on single countries in which the minimum wage has no cross-sectional variation and rely instead on within-country variations of wage distribution across regions or socio-economic characteristics, we use a country panel that allows for both cross-sectional and time-series variations in minimum wage. We also control for more factors than in the previous studies whose absence may cause endogeneity. Our results confirm the previous findings that increases in minimum wage alleviate the wage inequality at the lower tail of the wage distribution, while having little effect at the upper tail. The estimated effect is larger for women than for men, which is consistent with the fact that the share of workers who are directly affected by the changes in minimum wage is bigger among women than men. An application of the IVs of Autor, Manning and Smith (2016) supports the robustness of our findings.
The aim of this study was to examine whether health status is different according to employment status and income level in wage-earners. We analyzed wage-earners of 2199 men and 1194 women aged 30-64 years, using data from the 2006 Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS). The difference of health status according to employment status and income level was compared with the multiple logistic regression and the standardized concentration index of ill-health. The risk of ill-health was high when waged-earners had low income. The same is true for poor employment status when their employment status was unstable as in manual laborers, irregular workers, temporary, daily workers or part-time workers. furthermore, the wage-earners with lower income and a relatively disadvantageous employment status showed the lowest health status compared to other groups. Ill-health was relatively more concentrated in lower income group and poor employment status. This study identified the existence of health inequality among various employment status of wage-earners. It is suggested that policies that deal with the inequality in social class may have an important impact on the health of the population.
This paper explores whether or not a minimum wage increase can do much to alleviate working poor. For this purpose, I analyze transitions from working poor to working non-poor and to unemployment or non-economically active states, using KLIPS (Korea Labor and Income Panel Study). This study uses the multilevel multinomial logit model to control unobserved individual heterogenous characteristics. It finds that a minimum wage increase tends to cause a higher probability of transitions from working poor to working non-poor. It is also discovered that a minimum wage increase is not negatively related with the persistence of the working state. It is concluded that minimum wage increases are likely to be effective in improving the living standards of the 'working poor'.
The importance of the creative class has been emphasized as the industrial structure changes. However, there are only a few studies on gender wage difference in the creative class. The purpose of this study is to analyze the various factors influencing the gender wage gap in the creative class by using labor panel data. The results of this study are as follows: First, it was found that the wage of the male creative class is higher than the wage of the female creative class. Second, there were different factors affecting wages depending on the gender of the creative class. Third, female workers in the creative class suffer wage discrimination due to differences, but a larger part is due to gender discrimination. Fourth, compared to the non-creative classes, the gender wage gap of the creative classes was small. The gender gap caused by discrimination was the highest among the younger generation.
This study demonstrates the gender difference in the factors that affect job changes and the resulting wage changes in the recent Korean labor market. By using the KEAPS (2003-2007), we found that male workers uniquely tend to stay longer at their current jobs when they have families to support. After controlling self-selection bias, we also found that wage changes resulting from switching jobs differ between male and female workers during this studied period.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the status of youth overeducation and to analyze the impact on the wage system, before and after the financial crisis. In this study, we adapt the following method; first, we investigate the year 1996 (before financial crisis) and year 2000 (after financial crisis) data from "the Survey Report on the Wage structure", based on the data from "the Occupational Dictionary" by occupation group. So we could evaluate the difference between the youth over-educational status, before and after financial crisis. Second, we analyze the reason why the difference occurs, with financial crisis dummy variable and other variables such as sex, occupation, industry. Third, we try to find the difference between the impact of the overeducation on the wage rate, before and after financial crisis. The main findings are as follows; first, the degree of overeducation in year 2000 is more than in year 1996. So the financial crisis plays the important role in deepening the degree of overeducation. Second, the wage rate of the overeducated worker is higher than that of the required-educated worker. Also, the both wage rates are increased after financial crisis. However, the difference of both wage rates' has declined over the financial crisis. Such a finding means that even though the both wage rates of the overeducated and the required-educated worker are increased, the wage rate of the required-educated worker has increased much more than that of overeducated worker, after the financial crisis.
