Wireless sensor networks (WSN) can be used in military surveillance, in which highly confidential data needs to be transmitted. In effect, security becomes a very important aspect in such networks. We present an efficient key management scheme for WSN. Our scheme is an improvement over SHELL [1] and mostly relies on communication within a cluster of nodes.

At the present day, the use of containers crisscrossing seven seas and intercontinental transport has significantly increased and bringing the change on the shape of the world economy which we cannot be neglected. Additionally, with the recent technological advances in wireless sensor network (WSN) technologies, has providing an economically feasible monitoring solution to diverse application that allow us to envision the intelligent containers represent the next evolutionary development step in order to increase the efficiency, productivity, utilities, security and safe of containerized cargo shipping. This paper we present a comprehensive containerized cargo monitoring system which has adaptively embedded WSN technology into cargo logistic technology. We share the basic requirement for an autonomous logistic network that could provide optimum performance and a suite of algorithms for self-organization and bi-directional communication of a scalable large number of sensor node apply on container regardless inland and maritime transportation.

TPSN(Timing-sync Protocol for Sensor Networks), the representative of time synchronization protocol for WSN(wireless sensor networks), was developed to provide higher synchronization accuracy and energy efficiency. So, TPSN's approach has been referenced by so many other WSN synchronization schemes till now. However, TPSN has a collision problem due to simultaneous transmission among competing nodes, which causes more network convergence delay for a network-wide synchronization. A Polling-based scheme for TPSN is proposed in this paper. The proposed scheme not only shortens network-wide synchronization time of TPSN, but also reduce collision traffic which lead to needless power consumption. The proposed scheme's performance has been evaluated and compared with an original scheme by simulation. The results are shown to be better than the original algorithm used in TPSN.

In WSN environment, the sensor nodes collect sensed data, and transmit data to the BS. BS is difficult to trust the data from unauthenticated nodes. Therefore, many papers have been proposed about the node authentication and the safety of data. In the AM-E paper, data is delivered after node authentication. In this time, the sensor nodes are directly communicated to BS the AREQ/AREP message for authentication. Therefore, the sensor nodes consume more energy for authentication. Also, noes communicate directly with the BS for authentication will have problem due to the limited energy of nodes. In this paper, the same security with AM-E is supported, Furthermore, to minimize the energy consumption, IDE based hierarchical node authentication protocol is proposed. Compared with AM-E, the number of alive nodes is increased about 39%. Thus, the entire network life time is extended and energy efficiency is improved.

The need for securing Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is essential especially in mission critical fields such as military and medical applications. Security techniques that are used to secure any network depend on the security requirements that should be achieved to protect the network from different types of attacks. Furthermore, the characteristics of wireless networks should be taken into consideration when applying security techniques to these networks. In this paper, energy efficient Security Model for Tree-based Routing protocols (SMTR) is proposed. In SMTR, different attacks that could face any tree-based routing protocol in WSNs are studied to design a security reference model that achieves authentication and data integrity using either Message Authentication Code (MAC) or Digital Signature (DS) techniques. The SMTR communication and processing costs are mathematically analyzed. Moreover, SMTR evaluation is performed by firstly, evaluating several MAC and DS techniques by applying them to tree-based routing protocol and assess their efficiency in terms of their power requirements. Secondly, the results of this assessment are utilized to evaluate SMTR phases in terms of energy saving, packet delivery success ratio and network life time.

Design of Sensor nodes in Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) should be considered some properties as electricity consumption, transmission speed, range, etc., and also be needed the protection against various attacks (e.g., eavesdropping, hacking, leakage of customer's secret data, and denial of services). The stream cipher Rabbit, selected for the final eSTREAM portfolio organized by EU ECRYPT and selected as algorithm in part of ISO/IEC 18033-4 Stream Ciphers on ISO Security Standardization recently, is a high speed stream cipher suitable for WSN. Since the stream cipher Rabbit was evaluated the complexity of side-channel analysis attack as 'Medium' in a theoretical approach, thus the method of power analysis attack to the stream cipher Rabbit and the verification of our method by practical experiments were described in this paper. We implemented the stream cipher Rabbit without countermeasures of power analysis attack on IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee board with 8-bit RISC AVR microprocessor ATmega128L chip, and performed the experiments of power analysis based on difference of means and template using a Hamming weight model.
The use of Wireless Sensor Networks in many applications require not only efficient network design but also broad aspects of security, military and health care for hospital. Among many applications of WSNs, target tracking is an essential research area in WSNs. We need to track a target quickly as well as find the lost target in WSNs. In this paper, we propose an efficient target tracking method. We also propose an efficient clustering method and algorithm for target tracking.

A novel authentication mechanism is biometric authentication where users are identified by their measurable human characteristics, such as fingerprint, voiceprint, and iris scan. The technology of biometrics is becoming a popular method for engineers to design a more secure user authentication scheme. In terms of physiological and behavioral human characteristics, biometrics is used as a form of identity access management and access control, and it services to identity individuals in groups that are under surveillance. In this article, we review the biometric-based authentication protocol by Althobati et al. and provide a security analysis on the scheme. Our analysis shows that Althobati et al.'s scheme does not guarantee server-to-user authentication. The contribution of the current work is to demonstrate this by mounting threat of data integrity and bypassing the gateway node on Althobati et al.'s scheme. In addition, we analysis the security vulnerabilities of Althobati et al.'s protocol.

In spite of previous common assumptions about the incompatibility of public key cryptography (PKC) schemes with wireless sensor networks (WSNs), recent works have shown that they can be utilized for such networks in some manner. The major challenge of employing a PKC-based scheme in a wireless sensor network is posed by the resource limitations of the tiny sensors. Considering this sensor feature, in this paper we propose an efficient PKC-based security architecture with relatively lower resource requirements than those of previously proposed PKC schemes for WSN. In addition, our scheme aims to provide robust security in the network. Our security architecture comprises two basic components; a key handshaking scheme based on simple, linear operations and the derivation of a decryption key by a receiver node. Our architecture enables node-to-base-station and node-to-node secure communications. Analysis and simulation results show that our proposed architecture ensures a good level of security for network communications, and can be effectively implemented with the limited computational, memory, and energy budgets of current-generation sensor nodes.

Rapid technological advances in the area of micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) have spurred the development of small inexpensive sensors capable of intelligent sensing. A significant amount of research has been done in the area of connecting large numbers of these sensors to create robust and scalable Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The resource scarcity, ad-hoc deployment, and immense scale of WSNs make secure communication a particularly challenging problem. Since the primary consideration for sensor networks is energy efficiency, security schemes must balance their security features against the communication and computational overhead required to implement them. In this paper, we combine location information and probability to create a new security aware multipath geographic routing protocol. The implemented result in network simulator (ns-2) showed that our protocol has a better performance under attacks.
