  • As we live a life increasingly mediated by computers, we often outsource our critical judgments to artificial intelligence(AI)-based algorithms. Most of us have become quite dependent upon algorithms: computers are now recommending what we see, what we buy, and who we befriend with. What happens to our lives and identities when we use statistical models, algorithms, AI, to make a decision for us? This paper is a preliminary attempt to chronicle a historical trajectory of judging people's economic and moral worth, namely the history of credit-rating within the context of the history of capitalism. More importantly this paper will critically review the history of credit-rating from its earlier conception to the age of big data and algorithmic evaluation, in order to ask questions about what the political implications of outsourcing our judgments to computer models and artificial intelligence would be. Some of the questions I would like to ask in this paper are: by whom and for what purposes is the computer and artificial intelligence encroached into the area of judging people's economic and moral worth? In what ways does the evolution of capitalism constitute a new mode of judging people's financial and personal identity, namely the rated self? What happens in our self-conception and identity when we are increasingly classified, evaluated, and judged by computer models and artificial intelligence? This paper ends with a brief discussion on the political implications of the outsourcing of human judgment to artificial intelligence, and some of the analytic frameworks for further political actions.

  • The main purpose of this study is to present a map for setting a new direction for future North Korean ministry by applying Russell's theory on Christian education as a mission. As is well known, Russell was the first Christian educator who interpreted Christian education from a mission's perspective. According to her, Christian education is not a mere instrument for church to maintain and nurture new believers, but it is part of 'Missio Dei' in a broader sense. In other words, it is a way for everyone to accept Christ's invitation, and join in 'Missio Dei' that restores true humanity through reconciling with God and our neighbors. Based on the understanding of Russell's Christian education theory, the study examined up-to-date North Korean mission's situation, analysis, and limitations in the introduction. In chapter 2, the researcher reviewed approaching methods for understanding North Korea as well as prior studies on North Korean mission and unification within the field of Christian education. In chapter 3, Russell's theory on Christian education for humanization was briefly introduced. In chapter 4, the study attempted to apply Russell's theory in North Korean mission in the following areas: what is the true meaning of restoring humanity for North Koreans (including the refugees) and what are some of the specific ministry ideas; what is a realistic and sustainable humanization ministry; what environment can foster North Koreans to reconcile with both God and their neighbors; what are the ways to explain that such ministry is an invitation from Christ; what should the people involved in the ministry prepare; in what areas can Russell's theory be more effective in North Korean mission compared to other methods in terms of Christian education for humanization. Finally, a conclusion was drawn in chapter 5.

  • This study focuses on semiotic significance of clothing, showed in visual mass media. This study will look into what general public understand from clothing and what influence clothing on visual mass media exert on fashion. This study employs an example, "Aein(sweetheart)", which was televised from 09/02/1996 till 10/23/1996. Some specialists(master′s degree or doctoral degree holders, or professors) of Clothing and Textile picked and analyzed scenes with specific clothing. The theoretical grounds of the analysis are 1) in what procession the significance operate from the view of mythological symbols by Bart, 2) what influences clothing on TV dramas exert on fashion. The outcomes of the study are followings: First, clothing′s signifying proces hs two dimensions; linguistic dimension and mythological dimension. Linguistic dimension which is regarded as general and unvariable and is related to the reproductive signifying operation, contributes to the creation of the characters including the characters′ social activities, professions, social or economic position. Mythological dimension which is related to the cultural and implicative signifying operation, played an important role in the development of the drama. Thus, it operates to create and deliver images including that atmosphere of he drama and the development of the story. Second, the TV media which is characterized with the form of centralized transmission and individual reception and the ability tro readily lead the fashion, has huge influence upon the fashion by properly creating mythological or linguistic dimension of the clothing in the drama, arousing the public′s sympathy, and stimulating the public′ immitation or conformity mentality.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the performance of ABEEK accredited engineering program in D University. Based on engineering students' perceptions, this study explores how well the students are aware of the accredited engineering program, what change has been made to the courses, to what extent they have been participating in class and interacting with teachers and other students, to what extent they have been actively participating in extra-curricular activities, and to what extent they have achieved program outcomes. The survey was conducted in Fall 2014. The results are as follows: First, the students are well aware of the accredited engineering program; however, they are rarely aware of program outcomes. Second, the students were more satisfied with the major and design courses compared to the MSC and general education courses. Third, the students were more actively participated in the major and design courses compared to the MSC and general education courses. Fourth, the students were passively engaged in extra-curricular activities. Finally, the program outcomes related to soft skills showed low-achievement.

  • Identity is the concept which approaches individuals' affective problems with the social and cultural view. The previous studies on the problems, studied the attitudes, beliefs, or emotions while they restricted the problems to teachers or students' private problems. Otherwise, identities focus on individuals which participate to any community and share its social practices(Mclead, 1994). This study purposed to get an understanding on the teaching and learning mathematics in elementary mathematics classroom with an ethnographic view, while we consider mathematics as a kind of social practices, and mathematics classrooms as communities of practice. We analysed teacher's identities on mathematics and teaching mathematics depending on her responses of the questions as following: How does she think about mathematics, what are the instructional goals in her mathematics classroom, how do students learn mathematics in her mathematics classroom. In addition, we analysed students' identities on mathematics and learning mathematics depending on their responses of the questions as following: What do students think of mathematics, do they like mathematics, why do they study mathematics, how do they feel their mathematics classroom(describe your classroom) and themselves in it(describe yourselves in your classroom), what are their duties and what do they do actually in their mathematics classroom.

  • Character agent based Multimodal Presentation Markup Language(MPML) has been developed to increase the efficiency of the presentation using a computer. However, authoring of a presentation by using MPML is not simple because MPML describes only the behavior of the character agent. It describes the presentation background by importing HTML documents. This paper proposes EMPML(Extended MPML) which describes not only the behavior of the character agent but also the presentation background. And an authoring tool for the EMPML has been designed and implemented. By integrating the editing of the presentation background and character agent behavior, the proposed authoring tool supports WYSIWIG(What You See Is What You Get) mode designing. By using the proposed authoring tool, users can make a multimodal presentation without knowing the details of EMPML.

  • Including the research in the medical curriculum is regarded as an important issue for medical education. Research experience at medical school has a positive impact on students and it motivates them to undertake further research in the future. The purpose of this study is to explore the factors to activate the research of medical school students. We investigated students' perception of the research curriculum in medical school. The survey for this study was conducted among 41 targeted medical school students from across the Republic of Korea. A total of 370 students from 26 medical schools responded. Benefits through research activities were to study about the areas of interest, as researchers had the opportunity to interact with professors and career. Students, furthermore, had difficulties in research due to data collection, the lack of research space and research funding. Requirements to activate the research were the time to participate in research activities, opening regular research courses, preparation of practical research program and motivation for such research. The medical school would need to improve the medical curriculum through the analysis of the environment and situation the school is facing based upon the in-depth analysis results of what the medical school is pursuing through the research activities, what the students want, what the potential difficulties are, and what the requirements are to improve the research curriculum.
