  • MSAS satellite is the geostationary satellite for realizing WADGPS that can get the position of moving object in a wide area receiving the correction signal created from a ground using satellite. In this study, we analyzed two different data. One is using the correction signal transmitted from MTSAT-2 satellite of MSAS and the other is receiving the data of DGPS using BEACON receiver. As we compared both data, we could get the conclusion that the position accuracy of both data is also can get up to the standard or the conventional real-time code DGPS. As a result, we can expect that if we use MTSAT-2 satellite and BEACON receiver together, we can apply them LBS part that require real-time data or the obtaining geospatial information that does not require high accuracy much regardless of topography.

  • This study focuses on examination of the availability and effectiveness about application of the differential GPS methods for navigation and acquisition of the geo-spatial information. For this, the algorithms related to a navigation solution and differential GPS were implemented in MATLAB code, a number of software simulations on test model were carried out to assess its performance, comparing the results with those obtained from the commercial software. Expecially, the results coming from tracking test on test model of the OO's WADGPS which is the commercial real-time satellite-based augmentation system via geostationary satellite (GEOs), which has been investigated with those from the above GPS methods. And also, the accuracy of absolute positioning by Navigation solution and WADGPS before and after SA-off has been compared. The above results show that DGPS methods are very reliable and efficient methods for acquisition of the geo-spatial information.

  • In this study, author analyzed the overview and the convergence time of Fixed solutions (<15cm) of OmniSTAR, one of SBAS(Satellite Based Augmentation System) as WADGPS (Wide Area Differential GPS), which can compensate the drawbacks of the existed GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) that require the expensive receiver and is impossible to position in case of the radio interference in urban sometimes. As a result, the test shows that the less than 15cm 3D standard deviation converges in 39 minutes at Dynamic mode and 28 minutes at Static mode. It is expected that we can apply OmniSTAR to a variety of fields such as LBS(Location Based Service), mobile positioning, and the geo-spatial information industry that does not necessarily guarantee the high position accuracy.

  • Ionospheric time delay is the biggest error source for single-frequency DGPSapplications, including time transfer and Wide Area Differential GPS (WADGPS).Currently, there are many attempts to develop real-time ionospheric time delayestimation techniques to reduce positioning error due to the ionospheric time delay.Klobuchar model is now widely used for ionosphehc time delay calculation forsingle-frequency users. It uses flat surface at night time and cosine surface atdaytime[1], However, the model was developed for worldwide ionosphere fit, it isnot adequate for local area single-frequency users who want to estimateionospheric time delay accurate1y[2]. Therefore, 3-D ionosphere model usingtomographic estimation has been developed. 3-D tomographic inversion modelshows better accuracy compared with prior a1gorithms[3]. But that existing 3-Dmodel still has problem that it requires many coefficients and measurements forgood accuracy. So, that algorithm has Umitation with many coefficients incontinuous estimation at the small region which is obliged to have fewermeasurements. In this paper, we developed an modified 3-D ionosphehc time delay modelusing tomography, which requires only fewer coefficients. Because the combinationsof our base coefficients correspond to the full coefficients of the existing model, ourmodel has equivalent accuracy to the existing. We confirmed our algorithm bysimulations. The results proved that our modified algohthm can perform continuousestimation with fewer coefficients.

  • A Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) is a representative differential GNSS system, which is used for the navigation performance improvement of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) users. SBAS has been developed focusing on the securement of user integrity so that it can be used for the navigation in aviation fields. Accordingly, the development of SBAS has been completed, and it has been actively used in the United States, Europe, and Japan. As the new satellite of Global Positioning System (GPS) recently started to broadcast new civil signals (L5 frequency), the methods for improving user navigation performance in SBAS using this signal have also been studied. In Korea, to keep pace with these circumstances, full-scale SBAS development is expected to start in 2014, and studies on dual-frequency SBAS using L1/L5 frequencies will also be performed. In this study, before the full-scale development of dual-frequency SBAS in Korea, a simulation was performed to predict the performance and analyze the expected effects.

  • Extrapolating the correction information of ionosphere is essential for expanding wide area differential GPS (WADGPS) service area beyond the reference station network. In this paper, design and analysis of the artificial neural network for expanding the ionospheric correction region will be proposed. First, analysis about influence of each input of neural network were performed. The inputs are the day/year periodic function, sunspot number, and geomagnetic index (Ap). Second, performance analysis with respect to the number of hidden layers and neurons in the neural network is shown. As a result, estimation of total electron contents (TEC) on the high/low latitude regions in solar max(2014) are displayed.

  • Space-Based Augmentation System (SBAS), which is one of the GPS augmentation systems, is a Wide-Area Differential GPS that provides differential GPS corrections and integrity data. In this study, we did performance analysis of kinematic SBAS surveying by conducting Real-Time Kinematic (RTK), DGPS, standalone, and SBAS surveys. Considering static survey results as truth, 2-D Root Mean Square (RMS) error and 3-D RMS error were computed to evaluate the positioning accuracy of each survey method. As a result, the 3-D positioning error of RTK was 13.1cm, DGPS 126.0cm, standalone (L1/L2) 135.7cm, standalone (C/A) 428.9cm, and SBAS 109.2cm. The results showed that the positioning accuracy of SBAS was comparable to that of DGPS.

  • In this parer, we propose a new way of improving DGNSS service using combination of multiple SBAS information. Because SBAS uses Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites, it has very large coverage but it can be unavailable in urban canyon because of visibility problem. R. Chen solved this problem by creating Virtual Reference Stations (VRS) using the SBAS signal [1]. VRS converts SBAS signal to RTCM signals corresponding its location, and broadcast the converted RTCM signals over the wireless internet. This method can solve the visibility problem cost effectively. Furthermore it can solve DGNSS coverage problem by creating just a transmitter instead of a reference station. Developing above method, this paper proposes the methods that integrate two or more SEAS signals into one RTCM signal and broadcast it. In Korea, MSAS signal is available even though it is not officially certified for Korean users. As a Korean own SBAS-like system, there is the internet-based KWTB (Korean WADGPS Test Bed) which we developed and released at ION GNSS 2006. As a result, virtually two different SBAS corrections are available in Korea. In this paper, we propose the integration methods for these two independent SBAS corrections and present the test results using the actual measurements from the two systems. We present the detailed algorithm for these two methods and analyze the features and performances of them. To verify the proposed methods, we conduct the experiment using the logged SBAS corrections from the two systems and the RINEX data logged at Dokdo monitoring station in Korea. The preliminary test results showed the improved performance compared to the results from two independent systems, which shows the potential of our proposed methods. In the future, the newly developed SBASs will be available and the places which can access the multiple SBAS signals will increase. At that time, the integration or combination methods of two or more SBASs will become more important. Our proposed methods can be one of the useful solutions for that. As an additional research, we need to extend this research to the system level integration such as the concept of the decentralized W ADGPS.
