  • To elucidate the characteristics of cavitation erosion of super duplex stainless steel, a cavitation erosion test, an optical microstructure, a hardness test, and a transmission electron microscope (TEM) analysis were conducted. As aging time at $475^{\circ}C$ increased, the hardness of ferrite phase increased whereas that of austenite phase was nearly constant. The reason why the cavitation erosion resistance increased with an increase of aging time was due to the formation of W-rich phases (${\alpha}$') of a nanometer scale with the high hardness that were precipitated within ${\alpha}$-grains and at ${\alpha}$-grain boundaries during aging, compared with that of the solution annealed alloy.

  • The effect of solidification rate on the microstructure of directionally solidified IN792+ Hf superalloy has been studied. Solidification sequence and precipitation behavior of the alloy have been analysed by microstructural observation. The script carbide transformed to faceted carbide with decreasing solidification rates. The incorporation of ${\gamma}$ phase into the faceted carbide was due to dendritic growth of carbides. Some elongated carbide bars formed along the grain boundaries at a solidification rate of 0.5$\mu\textrm{m}$/s. Two zones, ${\gamma}$' forming elements enriched zone and depleted zone, were found in the residual liquid area. Eutectic ${\gamma}$/${\gamma}$' nucleated in the f forming elements enriched zone. Formation of eutectic ${\gamma}$/${\gamma}$' increased the ratio of (Ti+Hf+Ta+W)/Al and induced η phase precipitation. The ratio of (Ti+Hf+Ta+W)/Al decreased at lower solidification rates due to sufficient back diffusion in the residual liquid area. Hence, the Precipitation of the η Phase efficiently suppressed at the lower solidification rate.

  • Structured lipids(SLs) were synthesized by enzymatic interesterification with DHA-enriched fish oil(containing 27% docosahexaenoic acid) and soybean oil in the hatch-type reactor. The interesterification was performed for 24 hr at $55^{\circ}C$ and TLIM(immobilized lipase from Thermonyces lanuginosa, 10% by weight of total substrates) was mixed with 180 rpm of shaking. The fish oil and soybean oil were interesterifed with several weight ratio(fish oil : soybean oil, 2:8, 3:7, 4:6, 5:5, w:w), Reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography with an evaporative light-scattering detector separated the triglyceride species of SLs. The products contained the newly synthesized peaks. Especially, one of peaks was distinctively increased with the increasing weight ratio from 2:8 to 5:5 while the peak of trilinolein (LLL) decreased vice versa. The effect of antioxidants such as catechin, BHT(Butylated hydroxytoluene), and their combinations on the oxidative stability in SL were investigated. Oxidative stability was carried out under oven test at $60^{\circ}C$ over 72 hr thereafter SLs were analyzed for total fatty acid content, rancimat, peroxide value, electronic nose and TBARS value. Among all combinations of antioxidant, the highest stability was obtained from 200 ppm of catechin. Besides, total tocopherol ($\alpha$, $\gamma$, and $\delta$-tocopherol), iodine and saponification value were analyzed in which iodine and saponification value of SLs were 151.19 and 182.35.

  • The changes of weight gain, structure, morphology and uranium oxidation states in l0wt% G $d_2$ $O_3$-doped U $O_2$ during the oxidation below 475$^{\circ}C$ and heat treatment at 130$0^{\circ}C$ in air were investigated using TGA, XRD, SEM, EPMA and XPS. The room temperature ( $U_{0.86}$G $d_{0.14}$) $O_2$Cubic Phase Converted to highly distorted ( $U_{0.86}$G $d_{0.14}$)$_3$ $O_{8}$ -type sing1e Phase by oxidation at 475 $^{\circ}C$ in air. This oxidized phase was reduced by annealing at 130$0^{\circ}C$ in air. The room temperature XRD pattern of the 130$0^{\circ}C$ annealed powder revealed that ( $U_{0.86}$G $d_{0.14}$)$_3$ $O_{8}$ -type single phase was separated into Gd-depleted $U_3$ $O_{8}$ and Gd-enriched ( $U_{0.7}$G $d_{0.3}$) $O_2$$_{+x}$ type cubic phase. The reduction and phase separation by the high temperature annealing of kinetically metastable and highly deformed ( $U_{0.86}$G $d_{0.14}$)$_3$ $O_{8}$ -type phase are interpreted in terms of cation size difference between G $d^3$$^{+}$ and U according to the oxidation state of U.U.U.U.U.te of U.U.U.U.U.

  • The need for highly reliable methods for the determination of trace metals is recognized in analytical chemistry and environmental science. A method based on the cloud-point extraction (CPE) technique for the trace analysis of Pb and Cu in water samples is described in this study. The analytes in the initial aqueous solution are complexed with pyrogallol, and 0.1%(w/v) Triton X-114 is added as surfactant. Following phase separation at $50^{\circ}C$, based on the cloud point of the mixture and dilution of the surfactant-rich phase with acidified methanolic solution, the enriched analytes are determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. After optimization of the complexation and extraction conditions, the enrichment factors of Pb and Cu were found to be 72 and 85, respectively. Under optimum conditions, the preconcentration of 60 mL of samples in the presence of 0.1%(w/v) Triton X-114 permitted the detection of 0.4 ${\mu}gL^{?1}$ of Pb and 0.05 ${\mu}gL^{?1}$ of Cu. The proposed method was applied successfully to the determination of Pb and Cu in water samples.

  • Segregation during solidification and homogenization during thermal exposure in GTD 111 were investigated. The microstructures of as-cast, standard heat-treated, and thermally exposed specimens were observed by SEM. A compositional analysis of each specimen was conducted by EDS. The dendrite core was enriched in W and Co, though lower levels of Ti and Ta were observed. An unexpected phase, in this case like the ${\eta}$ phase, was observed due to segregation near the ${\gamma}-{\gamma}^{\prime}$ eutectic in the standard heat-treated specimen. Segregation also induced microstructural evolution near the ${\gamma}-{\gamma}^{\prime}$ eutectic during the standard heat treatment. A quantitative analysis and microstructural observations showed that the thermal exposure at a high temperature enhanced the chemical homogeneity of the alloy.

  • The purpose of our study was to determine the impact of rosemary extract in duck eggs, as determined by in vitro antioxidant capacity, lipid oxidation, fatty acid profiles, and flavor analyses. Three groups of salted duck eggs were compared: A control group and group enriched with 0.1% and 0.5% (w/v) rosemary extracts for 28 days of salting. In a time-dependent manner, the radical scavenging activity and reduction power of eggs with 0.5% (w/v) rosemary extract were significantly higher those of the control at 28 days after salting. The fatty acid profiles of salted egg were significantly affected by rosemary extract and salting time. Palmitic acid was the most abundant fatty acid in salted egg treated with rosemary extract, followed by linoleic acid and arachidonic acid. Furthermore, the treated eggs contained more docosahexaenoic acid than the control ones. And the treated eggs also have a considerable impact on the lipid oxidation process (primary and secondary oxidation). As a result, rosemary extract can be used as a natural antioxidant spice to prevent oxidation and extend the shelf life of eggs during storage. Furthermore, flavor research using solid phase microextraction - gas chromatography - mass spectrometry and an electronic nose demonstrated that adding rosemary extract to salted eggs could give them a distinct flavor.

  • Stable isotope profiles with fine-scale resolution were constructed from the fossil mollusk shells, Mercernaria mercernaria, obtained from the late Pleistocene transgressive deposits of Gomez Pit, Virginia, USA. Incremental sampling were made along the axis of maximum growth to provide high-resolution ${\delta}^{18}$O and ${\delta}^{13}$C records. The ${\delta}^{18}$O shell profiles exhibit a series of pronounced cycles in the overall amplitude, corresponding to strong seasonal variations in temperature, which is apparently positive environmental variable. Contrasts between the patterns of ${\delta}^{18}$O and ${\delta}^{13}$C profiles reflect the relationship influencing the seasonal carbon cycling in the shallow marine environment. Positive anomalies of the ${\delta}^{13}$C values during the summer were observed to be out of phase with the ${\delta}^{18}$O profile. Such relatively heavier carbon source may be alternated due to seasonal methanogenesis during the summer. A hypothesized methane-based system may be operated in the shallow and marginal marine environment, resulting in a ${\delta}^{13}$C enriched bicarbonate pool, in which the heavier isotope seems to be incorporated to the shell carbonate.

  • Effects of deposition parameter on the ionic conductivity and structural change of the Lithium borosili-cate solid electrolyte films, prepared by rf sputtering using 7$LI_2O-3B_2O_3-1SiO_2$ single phase target and also a mosaic target enriched with $LI_2O$, were analyzed by measuring AC impedance and IR absorption spectra for the films. Thed solid electrolyte film deposited from the single phase target exhibited very low ionic conductivi-ty of $10^{-10}{\Omega}^{-1}cm{-1}$ at room temperature, a result of low $Li^+$ ion content(7.52 at%) in the film. The $Li^+$ con-ductivity for the films deposited from the mosaic target, however, significantly increased to $10^{-7}{\Omega}^{-1}cm{-1}$ due to both an increased $Li^+$content (14.75 at %) and a structural change of the films. The increased ionic conduc-tivity of the film appears to be associated with an easiness of ionic mobility by structural change of glassy film from a some close packed network structure to a open one. These structural changes of film were found to be closely related to the increase in the peak intensity at~$960cm^{-1}$ of IR absorption spectra for the glassy films. With increasing either argon pressure from 3 to 21 mtorr or rf power from 2 to 3 W/$cm^2$, the $Li^+$ conduc-tivity for the films significantly increased to an order of $10^{-6}{\Omega}^{-1}cm{-1}$ due to an increase in openness of film structure, as confirmed by both an increase in the IR absorption peak intensity at ~$960cm^{-1}$ and a resultant reduction of activation energy for mobility of $Li^+$ ion.

  • .A new approach for a cloud point extraction-electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometric method was used for determining bismuth. The aqueous analyte was acidified with sulfuric acid (pH 3.0-3.5). Triton X-114 was added as a surfactant and natriumdiethyldithiocarbaminat (Na-DDTC) was used as a complexing agent. After phase separation at 50oC based on the cloud point separation of the mixture, the surfactant-rich phasen was diluted using tetrahydrofuran (THF). Twenty microliters (20 L) of the enriched solution and 10 l of 0.1% (w/v) Pd(NO3)2 as chemical modifier were dispersed into the graphite tube and the analyte determined by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. After optimizing extraction conditions and instrumental parameters, a preconcentration factor of 195 was obtained for a sample of only 10 mL. The detection limit was 0.04 ng ml-1 and the analytical curve was linear for the concentration range of 0.04-0.70 ng mL-1. Relative standard deviations were <5%. The method was successfully applied for the extraction and determination of bismuth in water samples.
