The interaction and breakdown of vortices over the Leading Edge Extension (LEX) - Delta wing configuration has been investigated through wing-surface pressure measurements, the off-surface flow visualization, and 5-hole probe measurements of the wing wake section. The description focused on analyzing the interaction and the breakdown of vortices depending on the angle of attack and the sideslip angle. The Effect of angle of attack and sideslip angle on the aerodynamic load characteristics of the model is also presented. The sideslip angle was found to be a very influential parameter of the vortex flow over the LEX-delta wing configuration. The introduction of LEX vortex stabilized the vortex flow, and delayed the vortex breakdown up to a higher angle of attack. The vortex interaction and breakdown was promoted on the windward side, whereas it was suppressed on the leeward side.
The fast pyrolysis characteristics of lignocellulosic biomass are investigated for a bubbling fluidized bed reactor by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). To simulate multiphase reacting flows for gases and solids, an Eulerian-Eulerian approach is applied. Attention is paid for the primary and secondary reactions affected by gas-solid flow field. From the result, it is scrutinized that fast pyrolysis reaction is promoted by chaotic bubbling motion of the multiphase flow enhancing the mixing of solid particles. In particular, vortical flow motions around gas bubbles play an important role for solid mixing and consequent fast pyrolysis reaction. Discussion is made for the time-averaged pyrolysis reaction rates together with time-averaged flow quantities which show peculiar characteristics according to local transverse location in a bubbling fluidized bed reactor.
Piezoelectric actuators have been investigated for flow control in the field of fluid dynamics. Numerical simulation for a single diaphragm piezoelectric actuator operating in quiescent air is performed to investigate the complex flow field around the slot exit. A periodic velocity transpiration condition is applied to simulate the effect of the moving diaphragm. The computational results for the flow field around the slot exit agree well with the experimental data. The results also show that low pressure regions due to the vortex pairing cause non-monotonic variations in the vertical velocity.
PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry)was used to visualize the interaction of reed valve of the reciprocating compressor. The valve is the key part which governs the efficiency, noise and reliability of the compressor, so the development of analytical model about valve performance is necessary. As the valve reed is opened and closed by pressure pulsation, the flow characteristic of the refrigerant passing the valve is very important. In the present study, a circular disk with inclination is assumed to be the valve reed of a reciprocating compressor, The mean velocity shows the vortical characteristic of this flow. It is found that the back flow is affected by the height of reed valve of reciprocating compressor.

Three-dimensional, time-dependent solutions of fluid flow past a circular cylinder with a periodic array of circular fins are obtained using an accurate and efficient spectral multidomain methodology. A Fourier expansion with a corresponding uniform grid is used along the circumferential direction. A spectral multidomain method with Chebyshev collocation is used along the r-z plane to handle the periodic array of circular fins attached to the surface of the cylinder. Unlike the flow past a circular cylinder, Second instabilities like mode A and mode B are not found in the Reynolds number range $100\~500$. It is found that three-dimensional instability of vortical structures is suppressed due to the presence of fin. The present numerical solutions report the detailed information of flow quantities near wake of finned cylinder.

Direct numerical simulations were performed to investigate the physics of a spatially developing turbulent boundary layer flow subjected to spanwise oscillating electromagnetic forces in the near wall region. A fully implicit fractional step method was employed to simulate the flow. The mean flow properties and the Reynolds stresses were obtained to analyze the near-wall turbulent structure. It is found that skin friction and turbulent kinetic energy can be reduced by the electromagnetic forces. The decrease in production is responsible fur the reduction of turbulent kinetic energy. Instantaneous flow visualization techniques were used to observe the response of streamwise vortices and streak structures to spanwise oscillating forces. The near-wall vortical structures are affected by spanwise oscillating electromagnetic forces. Following the stopping of the electromagnetic force, the flow eventually relaxes back to a two-dimensional equilibrium boundary layer.

The in-pile Section (IPS) is subjected to flow-induced vibration(FIV) due to the flow of the primary coolant and then the structural integrity. The in-pile Section (IPS) of 3-pin Fuel Test Loop(FTL) shall be installed in the vortical hole call IR1 of HANARO reactor core. In order to verify the velocity and displacement both the inside region of IPS at the annular region of IPS, the vibration was measured by varing the flow rate on both regions. The displacements of fuel assembly in the in-pile Section (IPS) were found to be lower than the values of allowable design criteria.

The flow field structures of dual jet-in-cross-flow were examined experimentally for in-lined perforated damage holes configuration using particle image velocimetry. Ensemble averaged in-plane velocity and vorticity data in the jet were determined to study the mean jet structure. Jets are formed by pressure differences between upper and lower airfoil surface. The flow structure of vicinity of the thru holes consist of a vortical structure that wrap around the jets like a horseshoe and develop further downstream through a pair of stream-wise vortices. The shape, size and location of the horseshoe vortex were found to be dependent on the angle of attack. In spite of the existence of battle damage holes, the effect on the control force was insignificant when the damage size was not large enough.

In the fully developed internal flow fields, there are complex transition flows caused by interaction of the cross flow and jet when jet is Injected Into the flow. These interactions are studied by means of the flow visualization methods. An instantaneous laser tomographic method is used to reveal the physical mechanism and the structure of vortices formation in the branch pipe flow. The velocity range of cross flow of the pipe is 0.7m/s and the corresponding Reynolds number $R_{cf}$, based on the duct height is $5.6{\times}10^3$, diameter/height ratios(d/H) 0.14 and velocity ratios 3.0. Oil mist with the size of $10{\mu}m$ diameter is used for the scattering particle. The instantaneous topological features of the vortex ring roll-up of the jet shear layer and characteristics of this flow are studied in detail by performing flow visualization in rectangular duct flow. It is found that the formation and roll-up of ring vortices is a periodic phenomenon. The detailed topology of the vortices in the near field of a cross -flow jet and the mechanism associated with them give enforced hints of vortex breakdown within the vortex system due to the interaction of the jet and the cross-flow.
Direct numerical simulations are peformed to investigate the physics of a spatially developing turbulent boundary layer flow suddenly subjected to spanwise oscillating electro-magnetic forces in the near-wall region. The Reynolds number based on the inlet momentum thickness and free-stream velocity is $Re_\theta=300$. A fully-implicit fractional step method is employed to simulate the flow. The mean flow properties and the Reynolds stresses are obtained to analyze the near-wall turbulent structure. It is found that skin-friction and turbulent kinetic energy can be reduced by the electro-magnetic forces. Instantaneous flow visualization techniques are used to observe the response of streamwise vortices to spanwise oscillating forces. The near-wall vortical structures are clearly affected by spanwise oscillating electro-magnetic forces.
