  • Background: Happiness is one of the most important indicators of health, wellbeing, and quality of life among older adults. The objective of the study was to investigate factors associated with happiness among senior citizens residing in rural areas using the 2017 National Survey of Older Koreans. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted among 3,149 senior citizens living in rural areas using secondary data from the 2017 National Survey of Older Koreans. Happiness was measured by a single question and responses were recorded dichotomously. Descriptive and inferential statistics were computed at a 5% level of significance. Results: In all, 64.5% of the participants considered themselves as happy most of the time in the last 1 week. In the study, socio-demographic factors did not predict happiness except age. Satisfaction with a health status, financial situation, relationship with children, cultural satisfaction, and satisfaction with friends and society were positively associated with happiness among senior citizens residing in rural areas of Korea. Odds of reporting happiness were higher among those who traveled in the last 1 year, visited elderly welfare centers, and were involved in voluntary work than among those who did not. Conclusion: Happiness among senior citizen was significantly associated with life satisfaction with regard to health, finance, relationship with family, friends and society, and social activity participation.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to study the effect of rectus abdominal muscle contraction by proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation trunk stabilization training using extremity simultaneous pattern (PNF trunk stabilization training) and traditional trunk stabilization training methods. Methods : A group of 24 adults male and female, healthy, with no previous medical history nor disability in neuromuscular system and musculoskeletal system was chosen as subjects, and was divided into a control group, a PNF trunk stabilization training group and a traditional trunk stabilization training group. Experiments were performed on the last two groups, 3 times a week for 6 weeks, totaling 18 times. Using a dynamometer, muscle strength and endurance time on trunk flexion were measured before and after each experiment, and surface electromyography in left and right rectus abdominis were measured. Results : following results were obtained; 1. As for the change in the maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC), all subjects in the trunk stabilization training group showed significant difference from those in the control group. 2. As for surface electromyography measurement and the changes in root mean square at the time of trunk flexion, in the left rectus abdominis, PNF trunk stabilization training group showed significant difference from the control group, while in the right rectus abdominis, traditional trunk stabilization training group showed significant difference. Conclusion : To sum up the results, both trunk stabilization training groups showed improvement in the MVIC of abdominal muscle, motor unit action potential activity, but the difference between two trunk stabilization training groups was not significant. Therefore, while trunk stabilization training significantly improved abdominal muscle contraction, but the difference attributable to training methods was found to be insignificant.

  • The purpose of this study is to grasp the relationship between the amount of physical activities at work perceived by workers and their health promotion behaviors. To achieve such a purpose. this survey was conducted on 476 Workers who work for 3 food product work-sites located in Keong-in area by means of questionnaire from June 15 to July 14 . 1998. Collected data were statistically analyzed by SPSS/WlN. The significant results were obtained as follows. 1. The average scores of the amount of physical activities at work and health promotion behavior were 3.18 and 2.84 respectively; the former was slightly higher than moderate score 2.5 and the latter was almost the same as it. It can be interpreted that workers perceive their physical activities at work are heavier than their daily activities, which seems to make their health promotion behaviors still inactivated. 2. The amount of physical activities at work, it was were greater revealed that the more activities workers do after work. the more they walk and the more exercises they do. It implies that the voluntary practice of good health habit at leisure can be greatly contributed to the activation of more productive activity at work. 3. The amount of health promotion behaviors was larger as workers do more physical activities at work and have lower PIBW(Percent Ideal Body Weight). It means that the voluntary practice of good health habit is closely related to the degree of obesity and their positive attitude toward their work. Average PIBW was 106.71; most of the workers are distributed within the standard range in their weight. So we can presume that most of them are not seriously conscious of weight maintenance in their daily lives. Therefore it is desirable that health promotion program for workers should be developed toward connecting their physical activities at work with those in their daily lives much more. • School activities which are opened after-school or during a vacation have been social issues as our society is nuclearized and both parents are working, so that elementary school students and middle school students are less taken care of and less concerned by their parents. It is regrettable that students are spending too much time on private academies in the situation where they cannot help but staying alone after school and where frantic fever of private education pervades their lives. For the sake of those students, the Ministry of Education announced, "Each school can open its after-school programs or vacation programs based on students and their parents' demands making it a rule of a student's voluntary participation. After school programs for elementary and middle school students are operated by local communities providing extra courses or programs in addition to regular classes. Those programs are paid by participants or supported by financial aids in order to decrease parents' burdens of costs of private education and to reduce educational gaps between rich and poor children or between the regions. After school programs are either curricular or non-curricular educational activities with students' voluntary participation, and the programs are meant to supplement and strengthen the role of public school education. Non-curricular courses that consist of various programs, in particular, are receiving good reputations by students and parents. Therefore, this study develops and operates "children's making D.I.Y. furniture" program that is one of non-curricular courses and an activity-oriented art program for children to improve their designing creativity and to help them experience their future jobs in advance. The purpose of this study is to analyze advantages and disadvantages of the program using survey and assessment methods and to find out a developmental direction focused on future-oriented and specialized educational programs for children.

  • The aim of this study was to find useful parameters of the between myotonometer and surface electromyography(sEMG) on the medialis gastrocnemius of stroke patients and investigate between these parameters and modified Ashworth scale(MAS) relationship. 5 years clinical experience physical therapist using the Modified Ashworth Scale(MAS) was selected 15 patients with ankle spasticity and divided randomly MAS2, MAS3, MAS4 groups. Myotonometer and sEMG was measured during relaxed and maximum voluntary contractions of the gastrocnemius muscle. The results of this study, the higher MAS score was the lowered the relaxation and contraction state tissue compliance and muscle activity and in the correlation analysis the higher MAS score during voluntary contraction in the cylinder receiving low-intensity correlation could see that increased than relaxation. Therefore, the myotonometer is a useful clinical and research tool with spasticity muscle and can provide objective quantitative data about the efficacy of physical therapy interventions.

  • Extracurricular activities are voluntary participations that students engage in outside of classrooms. This study aimed to determine Korean pharmacy students' degree of involvement in extracurricular activities, motivations behind participation, and influences from those engagements. The study was performed as a voluntary online survey to pharmacy students in four pharmacy schools in Korea and a total of 188 students participated. Sixty-one percent and 34% of students reported that they were involved in at least one extracurricular activities in-school, and out-of-school, respectively. Areas with most involvements were arts/music/sports (73%), followed by volunteer activities (31%). Thirty two percent responded that they have been involved in research internships, followed by 15% and 10% in pharmaceutical company and community pharmacy internships, respectively. For motivations behind involvement, students indicated that their involvement was for hobby (72%) and networking (38%). In conclusion, while Korean pharmacy students actively engage in extracurricular activities, the range of activities was limited in scope, and most students were involved in extracurricular activities as hobbies rather than for career exploration. Opportunities for student involvement in various pharmacy professional organizations and internships in the pharmacy work setting would provide valuable experiences for pharmacy students in their professional development as a pharmacist.

  • Attainment of the goals of functional electrical stimulation(FES) applications such as strengthening of muscle, increasing muscular endurance, improvement in joint range of motion or the reduction of spasticity does not insure that patients will be able to produce voluntary muscle contraction sufficient to maintain posture or produce purposeful movements. In many patients who have sustained CNS damage, the control exerted by higher nervous system center over muscle contraction may impaired. In Searched patients, a variety of advanced therapeutic exercise techniques have been employed traditionally to facilitate the return of controlled functional muscular activity or maintain postural alignment until recovery from dysfunction occurs Among the most common clinical applications of FES for functional muscle contraction is as a substitute for static or dynamic orthotic devices

  • Tiliacora racemosa Colebr. belongs to the family Menispermaceae, the biggest storehouse of diphenylbisbenzylisoquinoline (DBBI) alkaloids. Exhaustive chemical processing of the root of T. racemosa by the application of modern separation techniques yielded a DBBI alkaloid which was identified as tiliacorine using sophisticated spectroscopic methods $(UV,\;IR,\;^1H-NMR,\;Mass)$. Tiliacorine possesses neuromuscular blocking activity. It produces a dose dependent hypotensive effect in rats and cats, and this effect is blocked by atropine.
