  • Routinely, strength method for the determination of the nominal moment of reinforced concrete beam is assumed to also be suitable for strengthening beams with carbon fiber sheets since typically strengthening beams compromise 98% by volume of reinforced concrete. Flexural capacity of strengthening beam is absolutely dependent upon the type of reinforcement materials, amount of reinforcement, anchoring system, adhesion capacity between reinforcement material and concrete. Therefore, it might be incorrect to use strength method for analysis and design of strengthening beam without considering the differences in the load-deflection curves, mechanism of failure, state of stress distribution, failure strain of the reinforcement. An flexural analysis based on force equilibrium and strain comparability has been developed for strengthening beam. Systematic experimental investigations are compared with analytical results. Then, the adaptation of strength method for strengthening beam have also been discussed.

  • A new fluorescent derivatizing reagent was developed to be used in HPLC for the trace determination of primary and secondary amines. This new reagent, 1-(N,N-dimethylamino)pyrene-6-sulfonyl chloride, was synthesized by the chlorination of sodium 1-(N,N-dimethylamino)pyrene-6-sulfonate which was obtained from 1-(N,N-dimethylamino)pyrene after sulfonation. Ephedrine and norephedrine were derivatized quantitatively by this reagent. The optimum conditions for the derivatization such as pH, reagent concentration, reaction time and reaction temperature ware examined. The structures of derivatives were identified by IR, $^{1}$H-NMR and MS methods. The fluorescence properties and the stability of the derivatives were examined. The derivatives were separated on silica column with an isocratic elution using the mixture of n-hexane and ethylacetate and monitored by fluorescene detector. Linear calibration curves were obtained and detection limits in a 10 $\mu$l injection volume were 5 picomole for ephedrine and norephedrine.

  • Accurate estimation of the spatial distribution of rainfall is critical to the successful modeling of hydrologic processes. The objective of this study is to evaluate the applicability of spatially distributed rainfall data. Spatially distributed rainfall was calculated using Kriging method and Thiessen method. The application of spatially distributed rainfall was appreciated to the runoff response from the watershed. The results showed that for each method the coefficient of determination for observed hydrograph was $0.92\~0.95$ and root mean square error was $9.78\~10.89$ CMS. Ordinary Kriging method showed more exact results than Simple Kriging, Universal Kriging and Thiessen method, based on comparison of observed and simulated hydrograph. The coefncient of determination for the observed peak flow was 0.9991 and runoff volume was 0.9982. The accuracy of rainfall-runoff prediction depends on the extent of spatial rainfall variability.

  • Rail defects(Corrugation, shelling, etc) are occurred by the Rail with wheel contact stress. Rail grinding is maintaining of optimal rail profile to use special rail grinding machine to remove rail defect. The benefits of rail grinding enforcement, improve track safety, improve track steering and rail life, improve ride comfort and reduce noise, etc. Actually when rail grinding plan apply to field track, we should consider a lot of function before determination, such as grinding method, grinding pass number, removing metal volume, etc. because each track has various characteristics. Therefore it is important that the determination of rail grinding strategy for optimum and economic before enforcement.

  • The paper discusses numerical analysis of tensile notched specimens with the use of Gurson - Tvergaard - Needleman (GTN) material model. The analysis concerned S235JR and S355J2G3 steel grades, subjected to medium stress state triaxiality ratio, amounting 0.739. A complete procedure for FEM model preparation was described, paying special attention to the issue of determining material constants in the GTN model. An example of critical void volume fraction ($f_c$) experimental determination procedure was presented. Finally, the results of numerical analyses were discussed, indicating the differences between steel grades under investigation.

  • Determination of sound source characteristics such as: sound volume, direction and distance to the source is one of the important techniques for unmanned systems like autonomous vehicles, robot systems and AI speakers. There are multiple methods of determining the direction and distance to the sound source, e.g., using a radar, a rider, an ultrasonic wave and a RF signal with a sound. These methods require the transmission of signals and cannot accurately identify sound sources generated in the obstructed region due to obstacles. In this paper, we have implemented and evaluated a method of detecting and identifying the sound in the audible frequency band by a method of recognizing the volume, direction, and distance to the sound source that is generated in the periphery including the invisible region. A cross-shaped based sound source recognition algorithm, which is mainly used for identifying a sound source, can measure the volume and locate the direction of the sound source, but the method has a problem with "blind spots". In addition, a serious limitation for this type of algorithm is lack of capability to determine the distance to the sound source. In order to overcome the limitations of this existing method, we propose a QRAS-based algorithm that uses rectangular-shaped technology. This method can determine the volume, direction, and distance to the sound source, which is an improvement over the cross-shaped based algorithm. The QRAS-based algorithm for the OSSD uses 6 AITDs derived from four microphones which are deployed in a rectangular-shaped configuration. The QRAS-based algorithm can solve existing problems of the cross-shaped based algorithms like blind spots, and it can determine the distance to the sound source. Experiments have demonstrated that the proposed QRAS-based algorithm for OSSD can reliably determine sound volume along with direction and distance to the sound source, which avoiding blind spots.

  • Spinosad and spinetoram are widely used insecticides for the control of lepidopteran larvae, leaf miners, and thrips; however, they might also have low toxicity toward beneficial insects like bees. Because these pesticides are easily photolyzed by ultraviolet radiation, the QuEChERS method, with its simple pretreatment procedure, is often used for analyzing residues of spinosad and spinetoram. The present study performed a residue analysis using a modified QuEChERS method by pretreating with ammonium salt. The limit of detection (LOD) of the modified method was 0.05 mg/kg and the limit of quantification (LOQ) was 0.25 mg/kg. The coefficient of determination ($R^2$) for the calibration curve was 0.999. Also, we examined any change in the adhesion of spinosad and spinetoram on the plants depending on a spray volume. The adhesion was approximately 70% when the spray volume was increased from 60 L to 120 L per 10 a whereas the adhesion was approximately 37% when the spray volume was increased from 125 L to 250 L. This showed that the amount of adhesion decreased with the higher spray volume. The efficacy result of spinetoram was that over 90% of Frankliniella occidentalis was controlled with the application volume of 125 L per 10 a. Therefore, the result of this study indicates that control of insects is effective and sufficient with a spray volume of 125 L per 10 a in paprika cultivation facilities.

  • Background: Determination of inter-method differences between clinically available volumetry methods are essential for the clinical application of brain volumetry in a wider context. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the inter-method reliability and differences between the Siemens morphometry (SM) software and the NeuroQuant (NQ) software. Materials and Methods: MR images of 86 subjects with subjective or objective cognitive impairment were included in this retrospective study. For this study, 3D T1 volume images were obtained in all subjects using a 3T MR scanner (Skyra 3T, Siemens). Volumetric analysis of the 3D T1 volume images was performed using SM and NQ. To analyze the inter-method difference, correlation, and reliability, we used the paired t-test, Bland-Altman plot, Pearson's correlation coefficient, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and effect size (ES) using the MedCalc and SPSS software. Results: SM and NQ showed excellent reliability for cortical gray matter, cerebral white matter, and cerebrospinal fluid; and good reliability for intracranial volume, whole brain volume, both thalami, and both hippocampi. In contrast, poor reliability was observed for both basal ganglia including the caudate nucleus, putamen, and pallidum. Paired comparison revealed that while the mean volume of the right hippocampus was not different between the two software, the mean difference in the left hippocampus volume between the two methods was 0.17 ml (P < 0.001). The other brain regions showed significant differences in terms of measured volumes between the two software. Conclusion: SM and NQ provided good-to-excellent reliability in evaluating most brain structures, except for the basal ganglia in patients with cognitive impairment. Researchers and clinicians should be aware of the potential differences in the measured volumes when using these two different software interchangeably.

  • An integrated adhesive wear model was proposed to determine the transient wear and steady-state wear of aluminium alloy matrix composites. The transient wear volume was described by an exponential equation, while the steady-state wear was governed by a revised Archard equation, in which both the transient wear volume and transient sliding distance were excluded. A mathematical method was developed to determine both the transient distance and the net steady-state wear coefficient. Experimental wear tests were carried out on three types of commercial A6061 aluminum alloy matrix composites reinforced with 10%, 15% and 20% alumina particles. More accurate wear coefficient values were obtained with the proposed model. The average standard wear coefficient, as determined by the original Archard equation, was found to be about 51% higher.

  • Most important for meaningful forging simulation is the determination of correct process parameters. In addition a check and a compensation of the data base after the comparison between experiments and the computation of the developed process is necessary. The existence of a systematic process parameter data bank for special kinds of forming process in combination with forging specific simulation lifts the value of the products. Finite volume method is applied to simulate the hot forging process to investigate the defects for the automobile product. Three typical forging processes have been investigated; Extrusion by hydrolic press, Upsetting by crank press and Inclined upsetting by hammer press. Simulated result has compared with the experiment and provided a direction to improve the process.
