  • Pulsed ultrasonic Doppler system is a useful diagnostic instrument to measure blood-flow-velocity, velocity profile, and volume-blood-flow. This system is more powerful compare with 2-dimensional B-scan tissue image. A system has been deve- loped and ii being evaluated using TMS 32010 DSP. We use this DSP for the purpose of real-time spectrum analyzer to obtain spectrogram in singlegate pulsed Doppler system and for the serial comb filter to cancel clutter and zero crossing counter to estimate Doppler mean frequency in multigate pulsed Doppler system. The Doppler shift of the backscattered signals is sensed in a phase detector. This Doppler signal corresponds to the mean velocity over a some region in space defined by the ultrasonic beam dimensions, transmitted pulse duration, and transducer ban(iwidth. Multi- gate pulsed Doppler system enable the transcutaneous and simultaneous assessment of the velocities in a number of adjacent sample volumes as a continuous function of time.   • Simultaneous 3-D LDV measurements of the in-cylinder flows of three different engine setups were summarized for the quantification of the flow characteristics in each vertical or horizontal plane, and in entire cylinder volume. The ensemble averaged-velocity, tumble and swirl motions, and turbulent kinetic energy during the intake and compression strokes were examined from the measured velocity data (approximately 2,000 points for each engine setup). The better spatial resolution of the 3-D LDV allows measurements of the instantaneous flow structures, yielding more valuable information about the smaller flow structures and the cycle-to-cycle variation of these flow patterns. Tumble and swirl ratios, and turbulent kinetic energy were quantified as planar and volumetric quantities. The measurements and calculation results were animated for the visualization of the flow, and hence ease to analysis.

  • A numerical optimization procedure is developed to find the inlet velocity profile that yields the most uniform epitaxial layer in a vertical MOCVD reactor. It involves the solution of fully elliptic equations of motion, temperature, and concentration; the finite volume method based on SIMPLE algorithm has been adopted to solve the Navier-Stokes equations. The overall optimization process is highly nonlinear and has been efficiently treated by the sequential linear programming technique that breaks the non-linear problem into a series of linear ones. The optimal profile approximated by a 6th-degree Chebyshev polynomial is very successful in reducing the spatial non-uniformity of the growth rate. The optimization is particularly effective to the high Reynolds number flow. It is also found that a properly constructed inlet velocity profile can suppress the buoyancy driven secondary flow and improve the growth-rate uniformity.

  • The flow characteristics of developing turbulent steady flow are investigated numerically and experimentally in the entrance region of a square duct ($40 mm{\times}40 mm$ and 4, 000 mm). The numerical anaysis are incorporated by finite- volume discretization with staggered grid system and SIMPLE algorithm. The numerical solution are compared with experimental results of mean velocity profiles, turbulence intensity and entrance length. For turbulent steady flow, the turbulent components in the velocity waveforms increase as the dimensionless transverse position approaches the wall. Thrbulence intensity increases as the dimensionless transverse position increases from the center to the wall of the duct for the developing turbulent steady flows. The entrance length of the turbulent steady flow is about 40 times as large as the hydraulic diameter under the present experimental condition.

  • This study was performed to analyze the velocity and temperature distributions of the land aquaculture tank for fish breeding. In this study, we analyzed the velocity and temperature distributions in aquarium tank, and the finite volume method and standard ${\kappa}-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model with the SIMPLE computational algorithm are used to study the water flow in the aquarium. The main calculation parameters of the aquarium tank are the inlet flow rate with from 0.5 to 2.0L/M.

  • In this work, the hydromagnetic and thermal characteristics of natural convection flow in a vertical parallel plate micro-porous-channel with suction/injection is analytically studied in the presence of Hall current by taking the temperature jump and the velocity slip at the wall into account. The governing equations, exhibiting the physics of the flow formation are displayed and the exact analytical solutions have been obtained for momentum and energy equations under relevant boundary conditions. The impact of distinct admissible parameters such as Hartmann number, Hall current parameter, permeability parameter, suction/injection parameter, fluid wall interaction parameter, Knudsen number and wall-ambient temperature ratio on the flow formation is discussed with the aid of line graphs. In particular, as rarefaction parameter on the micro-porous-channel surfaces increases, the fluid velocity increases and the volume flow rate decreases for injection/suction.

  • The streaming electrification process of vegetable insulating oils occurring when the oils contacted with solid material in a high power transformer circulation system seems to cause electrical discharge incidents and may cause failures. We therefore measured the dielectric breakdown voltage tendency of vegetable insulating oils flowing on the surface of the charging device with various velocity and temperature. First, the relation between the velocity and breakdown voltage tendency of vegetable oils, can be explained by volume effect and v-t effect. Second, experimental results show that applied voltage have little effect on dielectric breakdown voltage, when vegetable insulating oils used for large power transformer.

  • The combination of ultrasound echo images with digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV) methods has resulted in a two-dimensional, two-component velocity field measurement technique appropriate for opaque flow conditions including blood flow in clinical applications. Advanced PIV processing algorithms including an iterative scheme and window offsetting were used to increase spatial resolution. The optimum concentration of the ultrasound contrast agent used for seeding was explored. Velocity validation tests in fully developed laminar pipe flow result of echo PIV showed good agreement with both optical PIV measurements and the known analytic solution based on a volume flow measurement.

  • The objective of this study is to examine a DI(Direct Injection) gasoline spray development process under different ambient pressures using PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry). fuel spray experiments were performed within a constant volume chamber. The spray structure, velocity maps, velocity and vorticity contours were obtained to investigate its spray characteristics. It was found that higher ambient pressure has a significant effect on radial growth of the spray. The position which has a maximum velocity moved from the spray edge to the spray center as ambient pressure was increased. Higher ambient pressure moved a maximum vorticity position upward of the spray.

A Numerical Study on In-cylinder Flow Fields of an Axisymmetric Engine (축대칭 엔진 실린더내의 유동장에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • A numerical prediction was performed to clarify the air motion in the cylinder of an axisymmet-ric four-stroke reciprocating engine at its intake and compression stage. A scheme of finite volume method is used for the calculation. Modified $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is adopted and wall function is applied to the grids near the wall. The predicted mean velocity and rms velocity profiles showed a reasonable agreement with an available experimental data at its intake and compression stage. The predicted in-cylinder flow fields show that a strong turbulent twin vortex structure is pro-duced during induction but it commences to decay rapidly around inlet valve closure. The mean velocity continues to fall to a low level during compression but the turbulence intensity attains an approximate constant level.
