  • This paper presents a novel prototype of active voltage clamped quasi-resonant ZVS-PWM forward DC-DC converter designed for specific low voltage high current application. We establish the soft-switching forward converter with a high frequency isolated link which can efficient operate over wide load ranges under conditions of zero voltage soft-switching and active voltage clamped switching. In addition, we evaluate connection of the soft-switching forward converter with large capacitor which capacitance is over 100[F].

  • A pulse-width modulation (PWM) method for common mode noise reduction in a PWM inverter connected to a single-phase grid is proposed in this study. The extensively used conventional switching method may experience common mode voltage problems, which generate current leakage and electromagnetic induction problems. In the proposed switching method, the neutral point of the output voltage is always fixed at both ends of the input voltage to reduce common mode noise. The validity of the proposed method is proven through simulation and experimental results.

  • In this paper a soft switching ZVT(Zero Voltage Transition) power factor converter using active snubbers is designed to improve efficiency and reduce voltage spike and parasitic ringing. The main switch achieves ZVT and the auxiliary switch operates with ZCS. A 2KW soft switching ZVT converter is designed with switching frequency 100kHz, output voltage 400VDC. Then the designed system is realized and experimental results show that the measured efficiency and power factor are over 97.45% and 0.997 respectively with an input current THD less than 3%.

  • A new primary-side-assisted zero-voltage and zero-current switching full bridge DC-DC converter with transformer isolation is proposed. The auxiliary circuit adopted to assist ZCS for the leading leg is composed of only one small transformer and two diodes. It has a simple and robust structure, and load current control capability even in short circuit conditions. Possibility of magnetic saturation due to asymmetricity of circuits or transient phenomena is greatly reduced, which is a very attractive feature in DC/DC converters with transformer isolation. The power rating of the auxiliary transformer is about 10% of that of the main transformer. Operation of a 12.5KW prototype designed for welding application was verified by experiments.

  • A new four-primary-switch diode clamped soft switching three-level DC-DC converter (TLDC) with full zero-voltage switching (ZVS) load range and TL secondary voltage waveform is proposed. The operation principle and characteristics of the presented converter are discussed, and experimental results are consistent with theoretical predictions. The improvements of the proposed converter include a simple and compact primary structure, TL secondary rectified voltage waveform, wide load range ZVS for all primary switches, and full output-regulated range with soft switching operation. The proposed converter also has some disadvantages. The VA rating of the transformer is slightly larger than that of conventional TLDCs in variable input and constant output mode. The conduction loss of the primary coil is slightly higher because an air gap is inserted into the magnetic cores of the transformer. Finally, the secondary circuit is slightly complex.

  • In this paper, a revolutionary buck converter is proposed with soft-switching technology, which is realized by a coupled inductor. Both zero-voltage switching (ZVS) of main switch and zero-current switching (ZCS) of freewheeling diode are achieved at turn on and turn off without using any auxiliary circuits by the resonance between the parasitic capacitor and the coupled inductor. Furthermore, the peak voltages of the main switch and the peak current of the freewheeling diode are significantly reduced by the coupled inductor. As a result, the proposed converter has the advantages of simple circuit, convenient control, low consumption and so on. The detailed operation principles and steady-state analysis of the proposed ZVS-ZCS buck converter are presented, and detailed power loss analysis and some simulation results are also included. Finally, experimental results based on a 200-W prototype are provided to verify the theory and design of the proposed converter.

  • This paper proposes a soft-switching bidirectional dc-dc converter (BDC) with an auxiliary circuit. The proposed BDC can achieve the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) using an auxiliary circuit in the buck and boost operations. The auxiliary circuit supplies optimal energy for the ZVS operation of the main switches. The auxiliary circuit consists of a resonant inductor, a back-to-back switch and two capacitors. A small-sized resonant inductor and an auxiliary switch with a low-rated voltage can be used in the auxiliary circuit. Zero-current switching (ZCS) turn-on and turn-off of the auxiliary switches are possible. The proposed soft-switching scheme has a look-up table for optimal switching of the auxiliary switches. The proposed strategy properly adjusts the turn-on time of the auxiliary switch according to the load current. The proposed BDC is verified by the results of PSIM simulations and experiments on a 3-kW ZVS BDC system.

  • This paper studies a novel boost DC-DC converter operated high efficiency for discontinuous current mode (DCM) control. The converter worked in DCM eliminates the complicated circuit control requirement, reduces a number of components, and reduces the used reactive components size. In the general DCM converter, the switching devices are turned-on the zero current switching (ZCS), and the switching devices must be switched-off at a maximum reactor current. To achieve the zero voltage switching (ZVS) at the switching turn-off, the proposed converter is constructed by using a new loss-less snubber circuit. Soft-switched operation of the proposed boost converter is verified by digital simulation and experimental results. A new boost converter achieves the soft-switching for all switching devices without increasing their voltage and current stresses. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of boost DC-DC converter is high.

  • This paper presents a multilevel inverter configuration which is designed by insertion of a bidirectional switch between capacitive voltage sources and a conventional H-bridge module. The modified inverter can produce a better sinusoidal waveform by increasing the number of output voltage levels. By serial connection of two modified H-bridge modules, it is possible to produce 9 output voltage levels including zero. There are 24 basic switching patterns with the 9 output voltage levels. Among the patterns, we select the 2 most efficient switching patterns to get a lower switching loss and minimum dv/dt stress. We then analyze characteristics of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the output voltage with variation of input voltage by computer-aided simulations and experiments.

  • This paper presents A Zero-Voltage-Switching(ZVS) Three-Level DC/DC Converter using Primary Clamping Diodes. The Previous ZVS Three-Level DC/DC converter realizes ZVS for the switches with the use of the leakage inductance(or external resonant inductance) and the output capacitors of the switches, however the rectifier diodes suffer from recovery which results in oscillation and voltage spike. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a novel ZVS Three-Level DC/DC converter, which introduces two clamping diodes to the basic Three-Level converter to eliminate the oscillation and clamp the rectified voltage to the reflected input voltage.
